Chapter 633 Confident and Prepared
The servant brought over some water.
Alex took a couple of sips, then waved her off. The servant, not wanting to push it, put the water down and stepped back.
Sandra sat next to Alex, worry all over her face. "Drink up and go take a shower. Clear your head."
Alex, looking like he had a major headache, leaned back on the sofa with one arm over his forehead, covering his eyes, and didn't even acknowledge Sandra.
Sandra noticed a light flashing in his pants pocket and grabbed Alex's phone, which was on silent.
The caller ID showed an unknown number. Sandra had a hunch and answered it for Alex.
"Alex, you home?" Sophia's concerned voice came through.
Sandra felt a bit let down and replied, "Yeah, he's home, Sophia. Don't worry, get some rest!"
Sophia, surprised to hear Sandra, quickly said, "Alright, Mrs. Melville. You should rest too."
After hanging up, Sandra rubbed her forehead. "Alex, what's on your mind? Are you gonna accept Sophia, or are you thinking about bringing Katherine back?"
Alex, sounding emotionless, said, "Grandma, did you think it was Katherine calling to check on me?"
Sandra had indeed thought it was Katherine.
Alex let out a cold, bitter laugh. "Even if I were dead, she wouldn't come."
Sandra frowned. "No, Katherine isn't that heartless. Alex, I know you care about her. You should find a chance to explain things to her. She must have misunderstood you and Sophia."
Alex thought, 'If it was a misunderstanding, wouldn't she be mad and come to confront me, giving me a chance to explain? Instead, she disappeared for half a year. When we met again, she was even wearing a mask. Was she afraid I'd recognize and bother her? To Katherine, I'm completely dispensable!'
"Sorry for making you worry about my stuff, Grandma. I'll handle it. You should get some rest." With that, Alex got up, took his phone, and staggered upstairs.
Fiona came over and handed Sandra a glass of milk. "Grandma, the misunderstanding between Alex and Katherine is really deep!"
Sandra sighed, took a sip of the milk, and asked, "Did you get in touch with Teresa? Is Katherine okay?"
Fiona replied, "Yeah, I asked. Teresa said she'd stay with Katherine tonight and that Katherine is fine."
Sandra nodded. "As long as she's fine. I'm really worried her emotions might lead to premature labor. By the way, don't tell Jackie about what happened today, so he doesn't get any wrong ideas about Katherine."
"Got it, I won't say a word!"
In the hotel, Sophia was dancing alone in her room to some smooth jazz.
Her attendant, Kevin, walked in with some wine and, seeing her dancing so intently, curiously asked, "Ms. Coleman, what’s got you so happy?"
Sophia slowed her moves and chuckled. "Do I look happy?"
Kevin nodded, popping open the wine. "Yeah! You seem in a great mood today. Something special happen?"
Sophia stopped dancing. "Today, Katherine finally showed up!"
Kevin paused mid-pour. "Isn't Katherine your love rival, Ms. Coleman? Why are you so happy to see her?"
Sophia smirked. "If she didn't show up, I could never replace her. Only by her showing up can her flaws be exposed, making Alex tired of her. I can tell he's already starting to resent her today!"
Kevin didn't quite get it but handed her a glass of wine. "So, does this mean you're about to win Mr. Melville's heart?"
Sophia took a sip. "No, it's not that simple! Winning Alex's heart takes the right moment! Right now, he only sees me as a friend. Only when he's completely fed up with Katherine will he turn to me. But it's cool, I'm not in a rush. I'll take my time."
Kevin felt a bit sorry for her. "Ms. Coleman, you've had a thing for Mr. Melville for so many years. If you had confessed earlier, Katherine wouldn't even be in the picture. You were the first person Mr. Melville approached for a fake marriage back then."
Sophia waved it off. "You don't get it. Some things can't be rushed. Didn't Scarlett confess directly and cling to Alex with a life-saving favor? And what happened? He still didn't care about her. So, I never saw her as a rival because I knew she was destined to fail.
If I had confessed directly, Alex would have kept his distance from me, which would have been counterproductive. A mature guy like Alex has strong self-control and won't let himself flirt with women.
I just need to stay by his side, making him get used to my presence, and gradually become dependent on me. That's the most effective way."
Kevin looked at her with admiration.
Sophia swirled the wine in her glass. "Katherine is beautiful and has quite a personality, but her modest background is a weakness she can't deny. Because of her humble origins and narrow outlook, being with her might lower the Melville family’s standing.
Jackie doesn't like granddaughters-in-law with humble origins. I believe that a smart guy like Alex will ultimately choose me!"
Sophia confidently sipped her wine, smiling contentedly as she gazed out at the night.
The next morning, Ambrosia and Frank left for the company.
Teresa hadn't managed to get Katherine to open her door yesterday, so she crashed on the sofa alone. But when she woke up in the morning, she found herself in Frank's bed. She was startled and quickly got up. Seeing that she was alone in the bed and still fully clothed, she breathed a sigh of relief.
