Chapter 976 Where Did the Money Come From

Over the years, she had put up with the Russell family, always trying to be understanding and accommodating, but their greed only grew.

Christina couldn't bear to live like that any longer.

Christina glanced at Cheryl, ignored her, and directly addressed her biased and cold-hearted parents, "Tell me! How much money do you want? I'll pay you back with interest for your so-called upbringing!"

Renee and Jared exchanged a glance, then Renee held up three fingers, "If you can come up with three million dollars, we'll consider it repayment for raising you, and we won't bother you with any family matters in the future!"

Three million dollars, that was a lot!

Christina had always lived a frugal life. How could she possibly spend three million dollars?

But since they had named a price, Christina had no choice but to meet it to make a clean break.

However, in her current situation, she couldn't come up with three million dollars and had to find someone to borrow it from.

"Alright! Wait a moment."

Leaving the living room, Christina returned to the small room she used to live in and made a call to Bernard.

The phone rang for a long time without being answered, and just as she was about to lose hope, it was picked up.

Bernard's cold and distant voice came from the other end, "What is it?"

Christina felt a bit embarrassed to ask, "Well, Mr. Mitchell, could you lend me three million dollars?"

This was the best solution Christina could think of; she didn't know how else to come up with three million dollars.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. "What do you need three million dollars for? Ms. Russell, I find your greed is growing."

From the beginning, Christina had always insisted she wasn't after money, but now she was asking for three million dollars all at once.

This behavior was completely inconsistent with her previous claims, leaving her feeling extremely embarrassed.

"No, Mr. Mitchell, I really need it urgently now, and I'll pay you back as soon as possible!" Christina's tone was a bit awkward and uneasy.

If she couldn't come up with three million dollars, the Russell family would continue to pester her endlessly!

Christina had had enough of such days; she just wanted to get rid of the Russell family and live a life for herself.

Sensing her embarrassment, Bernard became somewhat suspicious: "First, tell me, what urgent need do you have for three million dollars?"

Originally, Christina didn't want to tell him about this; it was a matter concerning the Russell family, and she didn't want to trouble Bernard too much, especially since they weren't a real couple.

But given the current situation, if she didn't tell him the truth, she definitely wouldn't be able to borrow the three million dollars.

"Actually, it's for my parents." Christina sighed and explained the whole situation to him, including why she went to see Hudson last night.

"I just want to get three million dollars for my parents, hoping they won't bother me anymore in the future! Mr. Mitchell, I know this is a large amount, but please believe me, I will definitely pay you back!"

To be honest, Bernard wasn't indifferent to what Christina had gone through.

Parents like the Russell family were a rarity and almost unheard of.

Christina's parents were both alive, yet she hadn't received any parental love and was used as a sacrificial pawn for her half-sister, which was both pitiful and sad.

"Do you think that giving them three million dollars today will make them keep their promise and leave you alone? From what you've told me about them, once they know they can get money from you, they'll just keep coming back for more."

Bernard's warning left Christina stunned. She had hoped that the three million dollars would be enough to solve the problem once and for all, but she knew deep down that the Russell family would indeed behave as Bernard predicted.

The Russell family was insatiable, and once they knew she could come up with money, they would definitely keep asking for more!

"I have something to do; Billy will contact you shortly." With that, Bernard hung up the phone.

Christina was a bit confused; did he agree or not?

A few minutes later, Billy called.

"Ms. Russell, Mr. Mitchell has instructed me to handle the matter. The legal department has drafted an agreement, and I'll send you the electronic version. You can choose whether to have the Russell family sign it. Also, please send me your bank card details, and I'll transfer the three million dollars to your account immediately."

Hearing that Bernard had arranged everything so well for her, Christina was a bit overwhelmed, "Okay, I'll send it to you right away."

After hanging up, Christina received the electronic agreement from Billy.

The agreement essentially stated that after receiving the three million dollars, Christina would no longer have any relationship with the Russell family, she would not have to fulfill any filial obligations, and the Russell family could not forcefully entangle her under any pretext.

Bernard had indeed thought it through thoroughly. Even if the Russell family came to ask Christina for money in the future, with this agreement, Christina wouldn't be forced by them as she was now.

After sending her card number to Billy and receiving his confirmation, Christina returned to the living room, took out her bank card, and threw it in front of her parents.

"Alright! This card has three million dollars in it. As long as you sign an agreement with me, I'll give you the password, and the three million dollars in the card will be yours!"

"You have three million dollars?" Cheryl looked at the bank card with disdain, thinking Christina was pretending. Cheryl didn't believe she could have three million dollars.

Christina looked at her with contempt and put the bank card back in her bag, "If you don't believe me, forget it!"

"Hey, Christina, wait a minute."

Seeing her really put the bank card away, Renee became anxious and quickly reached out to stop her, "Cheryl was just asking, but you need to prove that there are really three million dollars in there, or how can we believe you?"

Renee, blinded by greed, wouldn't let the potential three million dollars slip away.

Christina stepped back, creating some distance between them, "How do you want me to prove it?"

"Isn't it simple?" Cheryl took out her phone, showing the bank's contact information, "Call the bank to check the balance and let us see if there's really three million dollars in there."

Without wasting words, Christina took out her phone and dialed the number, "Hello, I'd like to check if my card has three million dollars."

"Alright, please hold on." The bank staff was very polite, and after verifying her identity, said, "Ms. Russell, the balance has been sent to your phone via SMS. Please check it."

Christina thanked them, hung up, and showed the message to her parents, "Is this enough proof?"

Leaning over, Cheryl saw the bank's confirmation message that Christina's card indeed had three million dollars, and she was stunned, "Christina, how could you have three million dollars? What did you do? Where did the money come from?"
