Chapter 747 Is the Child Autistic?
Katherine said, "When I saw her, she was alone."
Bernard replied, "With Sophia's father not around, things will be much easier."
Katherine stared at Bernard, who seemed preoccupied, for a long time, feeling that something was off.
Bernard knew Katherine was looking at him suspiciously. He indeed had something on his mind.
But he didn't want Katherine to know for now. Struggling to keep his expression in check, he turned his head to look out the car window, hiding his face from her view.
When he went to talk to the auction house manager to verify the situation, the manager pulled up the surveillance footage.
He saw it too.
Sophia had companions with her, a man and a child.
The man was in a wheelchair, and Bernard couldn't mistake that face.
It was Alex!
But the child was too short, the surveillance camera only captured the top of the child's head. He didn't see the child's face in the footage.
Judging by the height, the child should be about the same age as George and Edith.
He couldn't let Katherine know about this situation right now.
If Katherine found out, she would be very upset and might do something irrational.
He decided to investigate the matter first before considering whether to tell Katherine.
When they arrived at the Melville Manor, Katherine got out of the car with the children and waved goodbye to Bernard before entering the house.
Watching Katherine and the children safely enter the house, Bernard's expression immediately darkened. He instructed Billy, "Find out where Sophia's hotel is and take me there now."
Billy was stunned for a moment before responding, "Yes!"
Bernard seemed a bit strange. What was going on?
Was he going to confront Sophia for Katherine?
Katherine led the children into the living room and collapsed on the couch, too tired to move.
Despite spending most of the time sitting at the auction house, she had to stay alert and keep an eye on the three children, unable to relax.
At one point, 'George' had run off, and she had to search the entire auction house to find him!
Later, she discovered that Sophia was maliciously driving up the price and had to confront her.
The mental strain and physical exhaustion were overwhelming!
Fiona greeted them as they returned, picked up Edith, and soothed the child. She looked at Katherine, who was slumped on the couch, deep in thought, and asked, "Katherine, what's wrong? Did things not go well at the auction?"
Katherine lazily replied, "I ran into Sophia! The piece of land we wanted to buy belonged to Sophia's father. She maliciously drove up the price, making us pay ten times the market value for that land!"
"What? That damn Sophia again!" Fiona was furious. She already hated Sophia, and hearing that she was causing trouble again made her want to rush over and beat her up for Katherine!
Three years ago, Sophia caused Katherine and Alex to be separated. Now she's back, causing more trouble for Katherine!
Damn her! Fiona wished she could run into Sophia!
If she did, she would definitely humiliate Sophia to vent her anger!
Katherine was exhausted and didn't know why she felt more tired than usual today.
Normally, she had good energy.
Maybe it was because Bernard's strange attitude in the car made her think he was hiding something from her, and she couldn't rest her mind.
Judging by Bernard's reaction, she guessed his conversation with the auction house didn't go well. Otherwise, why would he look so worried?
But with Bernard's status and power, the auction house wouldn't dare disrespect him.
Something felt off!
Fiona saw Katherine's worried expression, put Edith down to play, and sat next to Katherine.
"Katherine, don't worry! We can just forget about that piece of land! There's nothing special about Sophia's family's property! We can afford any land we want in Janetrick!"
Seeing Fiona's naive optimism, Katherine could only smile helplessly.
"I must have that land. But now it's not about whether we want it or not. Once something is auctioned off, it's final. If there's no issue, we must pay, or it's illegal."
Fiona frowned, "But letting Sophia's family get ten times the market price will drive me crazy! It's not that we can't afford it, but I just don't want her family to profit! She's disgusting!"
Katherine said, "Don't worry, I won't let her succeed. It's not that easy to trick me."
Fiona trusted Katherine's ability and nodded, "Yes! I know you will find a way. So don't be so down! Cheer up, let's go eat something good!"
Katherine waved her hand, "I'm not hungry. You take the three kids to eat something. They've only had snacks today and no proper meals."
Fiona accepted the task, "Okay, leave it to me!"
She got up, ready to take the three children to eat, but saw Julian squatting alone, drawing circles on the ground.
Fiona frowned in confusion. The kid seemed different these past two days. He used to be a bit mischievous but still cheerful!
Since he got scolded by Katherine for running off yesterday, he seemed to have become withdrawn, always gloomy and alone, lost in thought.
Fiona bent down and whispered in Katherine's ear, "Katherine, have you noticed that George has changed a lot these past two days? Did you scold him too harshly?"
Katherine felt helpless hearing this. When did she ever scold him that harshly?
But the kid had indeed been unusually restless these past two days, always wanting to run off.
She sat up straight and looked at Julian, who was squatting and drawing circles, frowning.
The child not only wanted to run off but also seemed absent-minded.
He often got lost in the house, as if he wasn't familiar with the place.
Fiona grew more worried, "Katherine, did your scolding traumatize him? Should we get a psychologist to counsel him? I heard kids these days can easily become withdrawn!"
Katherine frowned, unwilling to believe her child was so fragile that a scolding could make him withdrawn!
She put down the pillow, got up, and walked over, asking, "George, what are you doing?"
Julian looked up, his face heavy with thoughts, "Mommy, I..."
