Chapter 458 I'm Asking You a Question

Scarlett furrowed her brows, looking innocent. "Bernard, I know I was wrong and I owe Katherine an apology.but I don't think we should value her that much. She's Mrs. Melville now, and we've had issues with their family for a long time. If we're too nice to her, people might think we're weak."

Scarlett's words challenged Bernard's authority. His expression turned stern. "The Melville family is one thing, and she is another! Do you think she shouldn't be taken seriously? You should be the most polite to her!"

Scarlett was startled and quickly said, "Bernard, I respect Katherine. I even invited her into the car today and asked the driver to take a longer route to drop her off. I just think you haven't wronged her, so you don't need to be so humble. It makes me feel sorry for you."

Bernard gave her a cold glance. "There's nothing for you to feel sorry about."

He then turned and went back to his office.

Without Billy's obstruction, Scarlett bit her lip, grabbed the packed food, and followed Bernard into the office.

Katherine was dozing off in the car when a knock on the window woke her.

"Ms. Galatea!" Billy called softly.

Katherine woke up, rolled down the window, and lazily asked, "Billy, what's up?"

Billy liked hearing Katherine call him Billy.

Previously, because of Bernard's attitude, he wasn't very polite to Katherine, but she never held it against him and was always courteous.

"Ms. Galatea, Mr. Mitchell invites you to come up and have a seat. Since you're already here, we'd like to invite you to join us for a meal?"

Katherine waved her hand dismissively. "I appreciate the offer, but no. Thanks."

Billy had expected to be refused and wasn't surprised but felt helpless.

Katherine wasn't treated well when she worked at the Mitchell Group, so it's understandable that she didn't want to go upstairs now.

Billy thought for a moment and then invited again. "Ms. Galatea, it's lunchtime now, and I remember you used to like the cafeteria food. You can think of the Mitchell Group as a restaurant. Come up for a meal and sit for a while; it won't be a wasted trip."

Katherine did like the Mitchell Group cafeteria food, especially a dish called Sweet and Sour Meatballs, which suited her taste. Although she didn't work there for long, she remembered the taste of that dish!

At that time, Bernard ordered Billy to watch her every move, so he naturally knew her taste in the cafeteria very well. It wasn't surprising that he mentioned it.

Katherine raised her eyebrows, tempted by the food. "I'm not an employee of the Mitchell Group. Can I still eat at your cafeteria?"

Billy nodded respectfully. "Of course, you can."

Katherine asked again, "Do I need to pay?"

Billy replied, "Of course not! Mr. Mitchell wouldn't let you pay. You can eat whatever you like, as much as you want!"

Katherine's face darkened, and she immediately lost interest. "I don't do things for free! Forget it!"

Billy twitched his mouth. "Then... you can pay!"

Only then did Katherine get out of the car, ready to go upstairs for a meal before returning home. After all, she had nothing to do if she went back early.

Before heading in, Katherine noticed a line at the ice cream window of a fast-food place across the street and felt like having some. She said, "Billy, you go back first. I'll queue up for ice cream and then go up."

Billy glanced at the ice cream window and said, "Ms. Galatea, you go upstairs first. I'll queue up for you. Just tell me what flavor you want!"

"I want the original flavor," Katherine said, handing him a green bill. "Here's the money!"

Billy was about to refuse, but Katherine's furrowed brows and warning look made it clear: if he didn't take the money, she wouldn't go upstairs.

Reluctantly, Billy took the bill and went to queue up.

With someone in line for her, Katherine went upstairs first.

Unexpectedly, she ran into an acquaintance in the elevator.

A woman with bright red lipstick and a flamboyant outfit saw Katherine enter and said sarcastically, "Well, look who it is! Katherine, the former secretary turned sales manager."

Katherine recognized her as an employee of the Mitchell Group but couldn't remember her name. She just nodded and smiled. "Long time no see."

The woman moved closer and mocked, "I heard Mr. Mitchell fired you! What are you doing back here today?"

Katherine lazily replied, "Eating."

Lisa furrowed her brows and sneered. "You're here to eat? Do you think our company is a restaurant you can visit whenever you want? How funny!"

Katherine watched the elevator's floor numbers rise and yawned. "I think it's pretty funny, too."

Lisa, feeling dismissed, probed further. "Hey! Katherine! Tell the truth, what are you really here for today? Trying to get your job back?"

Katherine glanced at her. "Why, are you very curious about me?"

Lisa rolled her eyes. "We were colleagues, can't I show some concern?"

Of course, Lisa wasn't just curious. Scarlett had tasked her with keeping an eye on Katherine and reporting back. But after Katherine was fired, she hadn't had anything to report.

Now that Katherine was back, Lisa wanted to find out her intentions and use this chance to reconnect with Scarlett, hoping for a promotion.

Katherine ignored her.

Lisa didn't give up and kept asking, but Katherine stayed silent, which annoyed her.

"Katherine, I'm talking to you!"

"Not responding, are you really that arrogant?"

"Katherine, what's with the attitude? You were just a sales manager for a few days, and then you got fired by Mr. Mitchell!"

"If you're here to get your job back, I have to inform you that the sales manager position has already been filled by someone with higher education and stronger skills. You won't get your job back!"
