Chapter 493 Hug
"Mr. Melville already ended the meeting. Why are you all still here chatting? Want me to tell him your concerns?"
Leander walked in, knocked on the door, and interrupted the discussions.
Seeing Alex's right-hand man, everyone quickly straightened up andput away their curiosity, then they all gathered up their papers and scattered.
When Alex got to the hospital, Katherine was giving Bernard some water.
From a distance, Alex frowned. He'd never been pampered like that by Katherine!
Alex walked up behind her, glaring at Bernard. "I heard you hurt your foot. What's wrong with your hands?"
Katherine turned around. "You're here!"
Alex took the water bottle from her and asked Bernard, "Can you drink by yourself, or do you need my help?"
Bernard looked at Alex with disdain and grabbed the bottle. "No thanks."
Katherine forced a smile. "Alex, his foot's hurt, and his hands are weak from the pain. I was just helping."
Alex snorted. "You're so considerate! How come I never get that treatment?"
Katherine stayed silent.
Bernard frowned. "Can't you talk to Katherine with some respect?"
Alex shot back, "What happens between my wife and me is none of your business."
Bernard was speechless.
Katherine wasn't mad; she was used to Alex's jealousy.
"Alex, you came so quickly? Isn't the company busy?" Katherine asked.
"Even if it is, you come first. Let's go!" Alex grabbed her hand and led her out.
Katherine frowned. "He..."
Alex said coldly, "His hands work; he can move his wheelchair."
Katherine was speechless.
Bernard glared at Alex and moved his wheelchair to follow them.
Alex's visit was pointless. Katherine had finally been kind to Bernard, but Alex ruined it.
At the hospital entrance, Bernard had to return the wheelchair.
Katherine tugged on Alex's finger. "Alex, the doctor said Mr. Mitchell's foot can't touch the ground. Can you carry him?"
Alex looked at Bernard with disdain. "Carry him?"
Katherine frowned. "Why else did I call you here?"
Bernard, with a bit of a vengeful mindset, spread his arms. "Then I'll trouble my brother-in-law."
The word "brother-in-law" made Alex furrow his brow, feeling a mix of emotions—neither pleased nor annoyed, just complicated.
In the end, he didn't carry Bernard on his back but couldn't ignore Katherine either.
So, Alex stepped forward, bent down, and lifted Bernard in a princess carry, taking him out of the hospital and placing him in the car.
A handsome guy carrying another handsome guy like that was quite a sight!
The nurses at the front desk had stars in their eyes, trying not to scream!
People visiting the hospital kept glancing over, curious.
Bernard felt super uncomfortable. He'd never been carried like this in public and was embarrassed. He glared at Alex and then turned his face into Alex's chest to avoid being seen.
This made it look like he was shy, making the scene even more ambiguous.
Katherine didn't know how to react, unsure whether to stay close or keep her distance.
Finally, they reached the parking lot, where there were fewer people.
Alex placed Bernard in the back seat, closed the door roughly, and patted the wrinkles on his clothes.
He walked to the passenger side, opened the door, and called back to Katherine, "Katherine, get in the car!"
Katherine quickened her pace, got in, and let Alex buckle her seatbelt as usual.
Alex got in, buckled up, and drove out of the parking lot.
Not long after, Bernard said, "No need to take me back to the Mitchell family."
Alex kept driving, and Katherine turned to Bernard. "If not home, where? You planning to go to work with a limp?"
Bernard shook his head. "No, I have an apartment at Azure Cove. It's closer. Just take me there."
Katherine frowned. "Don't worry about the distance. Alex doesn't mind the gas money, right?"
Alex chuckled, tweaking her nose. "Right."
Bernard explained, "It's not about the distance. My grandparents will worry if they see I'm hurt. Just take me to Azure Cove. I want to be alone."
Katherine understood but asked, "How will you manage with a limp?"
Bernard smiled. "I'll have Billy bring a caregiver. Don't worry, Katherine."
Katherine shrugged and turned to Alex. "Alex, let's take him to Azure Cove then!"
Alex grunted in agreement and drove towards Azure Cove.
At the high-end community in Azure Cove, Alex parked and had to carry Bernard out again.
