Chapter 123 Is Scarlett a Good Person?
The door opened, and Sunny stood at the suite's entrance with a stern expression.
As soon as Teresa saw him, she frowned disdainfully and questioned, "Sunny, what are you doing here?"
"I'm here to see Katherine!" Sunny answered.
"What do you want? I think you're in cahoots with Sophie and up to no good! You're not welcome here!" she then retorted.
Sunny glared at her angrily and snapped. "Move aside. I'm not here for you!"
Pushing Teresa out of the way, Sunny swaggered into the suite. When he saw Katherine's bandaged arm, his proud expression turned a bit regretful. "Katherine, I heard you got bitten by a snake?"
Katherine lazily leaned back in her chair, crossed her slender legs, and said, "Yes, that's right."
Sunny awkwardly asked, "So... are you okay?"
Katherine casually crossed her legs, a faint smile on her lips. "I'm fine. The snake wasn't venomous. Are you disappointed?"
Sunny frowned deeply and explained, "Katherine, I am not as malicious as you think. I just want you to stay away from Alex. I wouldn't wish you dead!"
Teresa put her hands on her hips. "Sunny, it's absurd! What right do you have to ask Katherine to stay away from Alex? They're legally married and sleep in the same bed every night. It's none of your business!"
Sunny's face turned red with anger. "Hmph! Get lost, and I don't talk to idiots!"
Teresa jumped up and snorted, "Who are you calling an idiot? You're the idiot!"
They started arguing. These two kids seemed to argue every time they met, and Katherine rubbed her temples in exasperation.
After a long bout of bickering, Sunny couldn't out-argue Teresa. He turned to Katherine with a serious expression and asked, "Katherine, can I ask you a favor?"
Katherine's lazy expression showed a hint of surprise. "It's rare for Mr. Mitchell to need a favor from me."
Sunny appeared to struggle with broaching the subject.
After hesitating for a moment, he gritted his teeth and said, "Alex is furious about what happened today, and he's planning to withdraw his investment from Sophie's family company. The Jones family hasn't been doing well these past two years, and if their funding is cut off now, they'll definitely go bankrupt. So, I want to ask you, can you persuade Alex to let Sophie off the hook this time? Give her another chance to turn over a new leaf?"
Katherine paused, lost in thought, without saying a word.
Alex was harsh with Sophie.
Seeing that Katherine hadn't responded, Sunny added, "Sophie is Scarlett's best friend. Although what she did today was wrong, she did it for Scarlett. So, I can't just stand by and do nothing."
Katherine slowly came back to her senses and looked calmly at Sunny. "Sorry, you've come to the wrong person. You should ask Scarlett to persuade Alex, not me, the victim."
Sunny's expression showed a hint of worry. "I can't ask Scarlett! Scarlett is too kind. If she knew Sophie did this for her, she'd be very angry and feel guilty! And Scarlett's health isn't good. I'm afraid if she worries, she won't sleep well."
Seeing the usually proud Sunny show such genuine concern and gentle care when mentioning Scarlett, Katherine felt a strange sense of being touched.
Such a close sibling relationship was rare.
That Scarlett, who could captivate the heart of a cold and indifferent man like Alex, rendering herself unattainable; who could inspire such attentive care from Sunny, to the point where he feared her slightest frown and loss of sleep; and who could even drive Sophie to willingly plot the elimination of her competition, all for her sake.
With so many people willing to protect her, Scarlett must be a wonderful person, right?
Katherine thought for a moment and then said to Sunny, "Let me give you a suggestion. Isn't the Mitchell family also very wealthy? Even if Alex withdraws his investment from the Jones family, the Mitchell family can invest in the Jones family's company to help your sister's friend get through this tough time."
Sunny looked troubled and explained, "I can't make decisions about the Mitchell family's finances yet. Bernard has always been very clear about separating personal and business matters, and he has never liked Sophie, so he definitely won't invest in the Jones family."
Katherine expressed her regret. "Then there's nothing I can do to help you."
She didn't think she had such influence over Alex. Besides, she had no right to interfere in his financial decisions. Even if Alex would listen to her, Katherine wouldn't plead on Sophie's behalf.
Pleading for someone who had repeatedly tried to harm her, nearly costing her life, was not Katherine's style.
She always believed that good deeds were to be rewarded and bad deeds were to be punished. When people made mistakes, they must face the consequences of their actions!
Sunny's expression tightened as he stepped forward and lowered his stance. "Katherine, I'm begging you, please just talk to Alex."
Katherine remained unmoved, resting her arm on the chair's armrest, tilting her head slightly, and lightly supporting her forehead with her hand. "I'm tired."
Teresa came over just in time to help, pushing Sunny away a bit. "Did you hear that? Katherine said she was tired. Sunny, you can get out now! Stop disturbing Katherine's sleep!"
Sunny was already in a bad mood, and seeing the meddlesome Teresa again made him furious. "Teresa! I'm talking to Katherine. It's none of your business. Stay out of it!"
Teresa retorted, "How is it none of my business? Katherine's business is my business! Sophie has bullied Katherine multiple times, and it's only fair that Alex deals with her to stand up for Katherine! I even think just withdrawing the investment is too lenient!"
Sunny, unable to out-argue her, was fuming. "Get out of the way. It's not your place to speak here!"
He tried to bypass her to continue talking to Katherine.
Teresa spread her arms wide to block him. "You're the one who should get out! This is Alex and Katherine's room! It's my place to speak here! Too bad for you!"
"Teresa! You... you annoying pest!" he shouted.
"Hahaha! I thought you were going to say something worse! Calling me an annoying pest is so childish! Listen to this! Sunny, you're a big dummy!" she scoffed.
"Teresa, you!!!" Sunny called out.
And they started arguing again!
Katherine felt a headache coming on and sighed. Taking advantage of their heated argument, she quietly got up and left the suite to find some peace.
Meanwhile, in another suite, Sophie apologized, "Alex, alright... I admit I placed the earring, but I just wanted to scare Katherine. I really didn't expect Sugar to push her off the cliff."
Sophie was terrified when she heard Alex was going to withdraw his investment from the Jones family. She stopped struggling and quickly admitted her mistake.
The Jones Company had not been doing well in recent years, and it had relied on cooperation with the Melville Group to maintain a foothold in the business world.
If Alex withdrew his investment, the Jones family would be finished!
Years ago, it was because of Scarlett that Alex agreed to invest in the Jones family.
And now, for the sake of a mere Katherine, Alex was actually going to withdraw his investment.
