Chapter 1011 Sitting in the Corner Again
"I think I'll stay here." Christina's eyes narrowed slightly, looking a bit troubled. "It's not very convenient for me to go in. How about you go in by yourself? I'll wait for you here."
Bernard's eyes darkened, but he insisted that Christina get out of the car and go in with him.
Earlier, Virginia had called to say that there was a problem with the props on set, and she got hurt during filming. She hoped Bernard could come and check on her.
Out of friendship, Bernard agreed to come and see her.
If Christina didn't go in now, she might overthink things again. It was better to let her go in and see for herself, so he wouldn't have to explain anything.
"Bernard." Christina reluctantly followed behind him, feeling increasingly nervous.
The thought of seeing Virginia and Bernard in an intimate setting made her feel particularly uneasy.
In the end, Bernard still pulled her into the set.
When they entered the set, they found it completely empty and very quiet.
Why was there no one around?
If there really had been an accident with the props, how could the set be so quiet?
Bernard looked around, a strange look in his eyes, and then pulled her towards Virginia's dressing room.
"Happy Birthday!"
As soon as they pushed the door open, countless confetti fell from the sky, creating a dreamy scene.
Bernard's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the group of people holding confetti cannons, smiling and offering various birthday wishes.
"Bernard!" Virginia, dressed in a pink petal dress with long curly hair cascading over her shoulders, looked like a princess.
She held a cake and walked up to Bernard. "Bernard, happy birthday!"
"Didn't you say you were hurt?" Bernard looked at her, his eyes cold.
Virginia didn't see the reaction she was hoping for and felt a bit embarrassed, but she quickly composed herself. "I just wanted to surprise you. Look, I specially ordered this cake for you, and this is the gift I prepared for you!" Virginia smiled, looking at the cake in front of her. "I even drew the boy on the cake myself!"
At this moment, Christina peeked out from behind Bernard, looking at the cake in Virginia's hands. The boy on the cake was indeed very cute and bore a striking resemblance to Bernard.
"Come on, let's all sing a happy birthday song for you!"
As Virginia's words fell, everyone started singing the birthday song. "Happy birthday to Bernard, happy birthday to Bernard, happy birthday to Bernard, happy birthday to Bernard~"
After the birthday song, Virginia placed the cake aside and took Bernard's arm. "Bernard, are you happy? Do you like the surprise I prepared for you?"
Looking at Virginia's perfect smile, Bernard suddenly felt she was a stranger.
"Virginia, I appreciate the birthday surprise you prepared for me, but please don't joke like this again." Bernard pulled his hand away from Virginia's, creating an invisible distance between them.
Seeing her empty hand, Virginia's face showed a moment of embarrassment, but she quickly smiled again. "I see, I didn't think it through. I'm sorry, Bernard. Next time, I'll think more carefully about how to celebrate your birthday."
Virginia reached out again and took his arm. "Don't be mad at me, okay? It's your birthday today, and you should be happy!"
Seeing her like this, Bernard sighed helplessly. "I'm not mad."
"That's good." Virginia grinned, showing a bright smile. "I booked a private room at the club next door. Let's all go there to drink and celebrate your birthday. And this cake, I know you don't like sweets, but I put so much effort into it, you have to try it, right?"
Virginia's attitude made it impossible to refuse. Bernard glanced at Christina standing nearby and nodded slightly.
"I knew you would agree." Seeing him agree, Virginia was especially happy and stood beside Bernard with a smile. "Let's go, let's celebrate properly. Everyone, don't hold back, have fun."
Everyone started cheering, surrounding Bernard and Virginia as they walked towards the club. Christina was pushed further away from Bernard by the crowd, watching as they all walked outside.
Christina didn't want to celebrate with Virginia and these strangers, but after hesitating for a moment, she followed them.
If it weren't for Virginia's celebration, she wouldn't have known it was Bernard's birthday today. No wonder Hellen suddenly bought movie tickets and wanted them to go to the movies together; it was to celebrate Bernard's birthday.
She always felt that Bernard hadn't fulfilled his duties as a husband, but now it seemed she hadn't fulfilled her duties as a wife either, even though they were just contract spouses.
She didn't even know Bernard's birthday, while Virginia remembered and prepared a cake, gift, and party for him.
Christina followed the crowd, and Bernard turned back to look at her.
Meeting his gaze, Christina immediately smiled to reassure him.
At the club, everyone started having fun, and Bernard, as the birthday boy, naturally became the center of attention.
"Mr. Mitchell, these are the gifts we prepared for you. Everyone took a long time to choose them, and we hope you like them!" Everyone presented their gifts, and Bernard thanked them lightly, taking the gifts and placing them aside.
Christina found a corner to sit in, trying not to draw any attention to herself.
She didn't know it was Bernard's birthday, so she hadn't prepared a gift. If she was discovered without a gift while everyone else was giving theirs, it would be too embarrassing.
"Ms. Russell." Virginia walked over and handed her a drink. "Why are you sitting alone in the corner? Come join everyone for a drink."
Christina took the drink, feeling a bit awkward. "I don't know anyone here, and I didn't want to disrupt the atmosphere, so I stayed here."
"Everyone here is a friend of Bernard and me. Since you're Bernard's friend, you're also everyone's friend."
For some reason, Virginia had an air of a hostess, as if she were Bernard's wife.
Thinking of this, Christina felt a bit bitter but didn't show it. "Thank you, Ms. Pearl. You don't have to worry about me, go and celebrate with everyone."
She just hoped she wouldn't draw too much attention and could sit quietly until the end.
Virginia's smile had a hint of sarcasm. "Alright, Ms. Russell, make yourself comfortable, and don't feel restrained."
After she left, Christina let out a long sigh and continued sitting in her corner.
