Chapter 140 The Elder Brother from the Mitchell Family
The man lifted his eyes slightly and looked at the girl standing next to his grandfather.
Katherine stood calmly, in stark contrast to the onlookers who were making a fuss. It was as if she were from a different world. She didn't even show any amazement at the man's exceptional appearance.
In fact, when Katherine saw the old man's family arrive, she wanted to leave, but the men in black surrounded her and couldn't get out.
The man politely and gentlemanly nodded at Katherine. "Hello."
Katherine nodded back and answered, "Hello."
She had a normal sense of aesthetics and naturally thought the man in front of her was handsome.
However, the man gave off a complicated vibe, with a smile that didn't reach his eyes, painted an image of kindness undercut by a chilling detachment.
He was completely different from the aloof Alex, who exuded a strong "stay away" aura from head to toe.
This man, on the other hand, had gentle features but a distant attitude, which was somewhat misleading.
The man continued, "Thank you."
Katherine replied, "You're welcome."
Their conversation was extremely simple. Both of them maintained a distant attitude and wanted to avoid engaging further.
The blind old man, frustrated with his grandson's inability to talk to girls, eagerly stepped in and asked cheerfully, "Young lady, what's your name? Do you have a boyfriend? What do you think of my eldest grandson? He's in his thirties and still hasn't.."
"Grandpa!" The man pinched the bridge of his nose and gave Katherine a helpless smile. "Sorry, he is old. Please forgive his indiscretion."
"It's okay." Katherine smiled indifferently, but she didn't want to reveal her name, so she said to Sandra, "Sir, since your family is here to pick you up, I'll be on my way. Goodbye."
After that, she turned to leave, asking the men in black to make way for her, and then walked out with dignity.
Hearing the girl's footsteps fade away, the blind old man asked his grandson regretfully, "So, was the young lady pretty?"
He raised an eyebrow and looked at the girl's graceful departing figure. "Very pretty."
The blind old man snorted and complained, "She's pretty, and you didn't even get her number? I even helped you strike up a conversation!"
"Grandpa, you don't need to worry about my personal matters," he answered.
"Don't need to worry? If you don't want me to worry, then bring home a granddaughter-in-law! When I was thirty, your father could already spell words! Look at you," Sandra retorted.
"Grandpa, you're tired. I'll have someone take you home to rest," he then replied
"I'm not tired! Who said I'm tired?" Sandra questioned.
"Take the old man home," he ordered.
"Yes, young master!" the bodyguard replied.
Katherine hadn't walked far when the leader of the men in black caught up with her. "Miss, you just saved our old master. This check is a token of gratitude from our young master. You can fill in any amount you like."
Katherine glanced at the check, and a hint of sarcasm appeared in the corner of her mouth. "A check with a limit of one million dollars, and he has the nerve to say I can fill in any amount?"
The leader of the men in black was stunned. She thought it was too little?
By the time he came to his senses, Katherine had already walked down the steps and got into Frank's flashy pink sports car.
As Frank's car drove away, a black car pulled up and parked in the spot Frank had just vacated.
Sunny hurriedly got out of the back seat and ran to the handsome man in the silver-gray suit, cautiously asking, "Bernard, how is it? Did you find Grandpa?"
Bernard Mitchell had just coaxed Grandpa into the car and sent him off when he heard his out-of-breath younger brother's voice.
He turned his head to glance at Sunny and, instead of answering, asked, "Where did you come from?"
Sunny, who usually acted like a spoiled young master outside, didn't dare to show any of that in front of Bernard. He hung his head obediently, like a mouse seeing a cat.
Sunny answered, "Bernard... I came from Moonlight Manor."
A hint of sternness appeared between Bernard's brows. "School is about to start, and you still have the nerve to fool around all day? This will be your third year repeating if you don't shape up. Are you planning to hold onto your title of A High school's hearthrob forever?"
Sunny felt deeply ashamed, finding Bernard's words quite sarcastic. Because of his good looks, the girls at school dubbed him the school heartthrob.
But he couldn't get into college, so he kept repeating, making him the school heartthrob at A High every year.
The term "school heartthrob" was supposed to be a compliment, but for Sunny, it was derogatory.
He said, "Bernard, I promise I'll work hard this time! There was a special situation today. That's why I went out to play."
Bernard snorted, "There was always a special situation."
Sunny looked innocent and stated, "Bernard, today really was special! Didn't you know? Scarlett is back! Alex decorated the entire Moonlight Manor with pink tulips for her. It was super romantic. I went to witness Scarlett's happy moment!"
Scarlett was back?
Bernard paused, then narrowed his eyes, sensing something unusual. He frowned and then asked, "Isn't Alex already married? Why is she still coming back to cling to him?"
Sunny, eager to defend his sister, lifted his head and retorted, "Bernard! Alex only got married to appease the elders. He has no feelings for that new wife! And you know, Scarlett can't live without Alex. Last time, she attempted suicide because you all tried to keep them apart."
A trace of worry flashed in Bernard's phoenix, handsome eyes as he pinched the bridge of his nose.
At this moment, a black man approached and asked, "Young master, how should we handle the blogger who offended the old master?"
"A blogger?" Bernard casually took out his phone, which had just vibrated twice, and looked at the new messages. His calm expression remained unchanged as he nonchalantly ordered, "Make sure she never becomes famous. Make her and that car blocking the blind path disappear from Janetrick."
The man in black nodded. "Understood, young master!"
As one subordinate left, another approached.
The leader of the men returned with the rejected check and reported, "Young master, the lady did not accept the check. She has already left."
Bernard's long fingers paused slightly as he typed on his phone. He lifted his handsome eyes, a hint of surprise in them, and smiled. "Quite a principled girl!"
The leader, named Billy Parker, shook his head awkwardly. "No, it seemed like... she thought it was too little?"
Bernard narrowed his eyes, looking at the untouched check in Billy's hand, recalling the girl's dignified demeanor.
If she really thought it was too little, she wouldn't have left so easily.
There were still some unique girls in this world worthy of respect.
Sunny, standing nearby, stared curiously at the check in Billy's hand. "Who is she? A million-dollar check, and she thinks it's too little? If she doesn't want it, give it to me!"
As he spoke, Sunny reached out to grab the check.
But Bernard's hand was faster, easily snatching the check and tearing it up mercilessly. "People who can't get into college don't deserve my check! You, come home and do your homework!"
"OK." Sunny's head drooped to the ground, on the verge of tears.
