Chapter 788 The Gap is Quite Large
Katherine squinted, her gaze a blend of caution and curiosity.
She had felt someone was watching her and the kids from the shadows these past few days, and it seemed her instincts were right.
The middle-aged man selling balloons at the door this afternoon was too much of a coincidence to ignore.
A person out doing business, yet not even prepared with a way to accept payments? Claimed it was because he was flustered and forgot! Is that even possible?
And he came to this high-end community to sell balloons instead of going to a busy downtown area.
He must have ulterior motives, targeting her children!
Sophia knew she had given birth to Alex's other two children back then, and she might be trying to abduct her kids.
It seemed she couldn't leave the country anytime soon and had to be extra vigilant to protect her children.
Looking up at the moon that had already risen, Katherine sighed, took out her phone, and called Bernard.
She couldn't go with him to Markovia to meet the art teacher named Lotus.
Bernard just reassured her over the phone, saying he would inform her immediately if he found anything after he arrived.
After hanging up the phone, Katherine felt overwhelmed and a bit exhausted. She stepped back into the room from the balcony to get some rest.
The next morning, Bernard boarded a flight to Markovia.
Someone was already waiting for him in Markovia.
In the Hotel.
In the afternoon, Sophia had an appointment to discuss some matters. Before leaving, she thoughtfully made some simple meals for Trevor and George and stayed with them for a while before heading out.
It wasn't until Sophia left that the atmosphere in the suite lightened.
George put down his fork and let out a deep sigh of relief, "Finally, she's gone!"
Trevor looked up at George's relieved expression and gently wiped the food crumbs from the corner of his mouth, "You really don't like being with Sophia?"
George honestly replied, "Yeah! I really don't like being with her. I miss my mommy! Dad, now that Sophia is gone, can you take me home? I can introduce my mommy to you!"
Trevor raised an eyebrow, "It's not that I don't want to take you to your mommy, but we can't even get out of the hotel. Sophia has everything arranged, and the hotel management, along with her people, won't let me take you out alone. And my physical condition doesn't allow me to take you through other routes."
George looked at Trevor in the wheelchair, sighing sympathetically and helplessly, "Dad, I kind of feel sorry for you! No freedom at all. If Mommy knew I was here, she would definitely get us both out."
Suddenly, George's eyes lit up. "Oh! How could I forget? I can call Mommy and have her come here to find us!"
Saying that, the little guy jumped off the chair and ran towards the landline.
"Don't touch that phone."
Trevor knew what he was about to do and stopped him.
George paused, "Why? Sophia is already gone!"
Trevor said, "If she finds out about the call record, you'll never see your mommy again. Be good, don't touch the phone."
George pouted helplessly, "Alright."
Trevor moved his wheelchair to George's side, patted his little head, "Don't worry, I'll make sure you see your mommy."
George nodded, "I believe you!"
Trevor was usually distant, but his tone was much gentler when speaking to George, "Now I need to do my rehab exercises. You play with your toys in the living room. Promise me, don't touch anything in the kitchen, and if anything happens, call for me loudly, okay?"
George promised, "Okay! I'll be good, and you work hard on your training!"
Trevor maneuvered his wheelchair towards the bedroom.
Given the limited conditions here, he couldn't buy professional rehab equipment without Sophia knowing.
So, he could only use the balcony railing in the bedroom for his rehab exercises.
Another advantage of being in the bedroom was that if Sophia returned midway, he would have time to buffer and not be discovered by her.
On the bedroom balcony, Trevor gripped the railing with both hands, struggling to stand up, relying almost entirely on his arms to support his body.
His legs, unable to exert any strength, kept trembling.
He tried to reduce the pressure on his arms and let his legs support him for a while.
Sophia had been staying at the hotel these past two days, leaving him no time to practice. The last time he practiced, he had finally managed to stand for a while, but due to the recent slack, he was back to square one.
Trevor didn't get discouraged, gritted his teeth, and forced himself to stand, slowly removing his hands from the railing to see if he could stand on his own.
However, he was too impatient!
As soon as he let go, his legs, unable to bear the weight, gave out, and he lost his balance. It was too late to reach for the railing again!
He fell backward uncontrollably.
Behind him was his wheelchair. If he fell into it, it wouldn't be too bad, but the wheelchair, having wheels, might flip over due to inertia!
In any case, a fall was inevitable.
Trevor took a deep breath, accepting the unchangeable reality. Trying to stand up and walk on his own legs without falling a few times was impossible.
However, he didn't fall. The expected fall didn't happen because someone caught him from behind!
Trevor was stunned, his pupils slightly contracting as he looked ahead warily.
Katherine, struggling to support him, found it quite difficult. After all, it was a man falling without any support, and it took a lot of effort for her to hold him up.
Katherine helped him back into the wheelchair, frowning and complaining, "I didn't expect you to be so heavy after being paralyzed for three years!"
Trevor, having settled in the wheelchair, was about to thank her, but hearing her deliberate sarcasm, his expression turned serious, "I'm really sorry."
Katherine crossed her arms, looking down at his sweaty face, "Do you know it's very dangerous to do rehab alone on the balcony? If you fell outward instead of inward, you would have fallen off!"
Trevor, with his long, narrow eyes downcast, didn't look at her again, "I have no other choice now."
Katherine stared at him for a while, then couldn't help but lift his chin, "You look quite different from before!"
Trevor, forced to lift his head, raised an eyebrow, "How so?"
A hint of mockery flashed in Katherine's eyes, "You used to be intimidating, like people had to run fast just to avoid getting bullied by you."
Trevor squinted, "And now?"
