Chapter 843 You're Here
In the elevator, Sunny said, "Katherine, when you go in, just say some nice things to comfort Dad. I'll stand guard outside!"
Katherine frowned and gave him a sidelong glance, "What, is it such a shameful thing for me to visit your father in the hospital that you need to stand guard?"
Sunny shook his head, "No, I'm afraid Bernard will see! He warned me several times yesterday not to tell you about this, not to disturb you. I'm doing this for my dad, I had no choice! It's best if Bernard doesn't find out, or I'll definitely get beaten up again!"
The elevator doors opened.
Sunny led Katherine to Edwin's hospital room.
Pushing the door open, they saw servants by the bedside trying to persuade Edwin to eat something, but Edwin seemed not to hear them, his eyes vacant and unresponsive.
Seeing this, Sunny sighed helplessly, then cleared his throat to get their attention.
Seeing Sunny return, the servants left the room.
Sunny led Katherine to the bedside and said to his lifeless father, "Dad, Katherine is here to see you!"
Edwin's pupils suddenly contracted. He turned his face to look and saw Katherine standing behind Sunny. He was first stunned, then showed an expression as if he had expected this all along.
With a pale face, he smiled at Katherine, "You're here!"
Katherine looked at him and frowned.
When she came, she felt quite calm, thinking that whether Edwin lived or died had nothing to do with her.
But when she actually saw Edwin's weak and pale face, she felt an indescribable sense of oppression.
Sunny pushed Katherine in front of Edwin and then said, "I'm going out. You have a good chat with Edwin. If you need anything, call me! I'll be right outside!"
After saying that, Sunny slipped out!
Katherine stood by the bed, looking at Edwin expressionlessly, not saying a word.
Edwin smiled gently at her, "Have a seat!"
Where to sit? Katherine looked around and saw there wasn't a single chair!
She didn't want to sit by the bed, so close to him!
"No need to sit, I prefer standing."
Edwin looked around and realized there were no chairs, feeling a bit embarrassed, "Sorry, there are no chairs here."
Katherine didn't care, "Mr. Mitchell, what's wrong with you? Why do you want to die?"
Edwin gave a bitter smile, "I just wanted to go to another world to see my wife and daughter whom I haven't seen for many years. I thought they were no longer in this world."
Katherine sarcastically said, "Mr. Mitchell, is this a love suicide? But your wife and daughter have been missing for almost twenty years, right? Your love suicide is a bit late!"
Hearing the sarcasm in Katherine's tone, Edwin wasn't angry. Instead, he felt a bit self-deprecating, his eyes darkening, and cautiously asked, "Do you hate me?"
Katherine shook her head, "Hate requires memories to generate specific resentment. Mr. Mitchell, I have no memories of you, so I don't hate you, but I dislike you and don't want to have any relationship with you."
Edwin looked somewhat dejectedly at his long-lost daughter. Even though Katherine was saying sarcastic things to him, he felt this moment was the happiest he had been in nearly twenty years.
After a moment of silence, he smiled, "Katherine, you really remind me of your mother. She used to talk to me like this too."
Katherine frowned, rolling her eyes in disgust, "Don't mention my mother. You don't deserve to."
Edwin, unfazed by the revelation, expected such an attitude because Bernard had told him the same thing. He sighed, "I'm sorry, I..."
Katherine had no patience to listen to his explanations, "Enough! I came here entirely because Sunny specifically came to our house and knelt down to beg me. I hope in the future, you can be responsible for your current family and children. Don't do this kind of thing again, making your parents and children worry! At your age, Mr. Mitchell, you should be more sensible!"
Edwin looked at Laura, who was now not far from him, but he didn't dare to reach out and touch her.
"I'm sorry. Beyond that, I don't know what else to say to you, and I have no right to ask for your forgiveness."
Katherine said with a smile, "You have no right, and there's no need. Mr. Mitchell, take care of yourself and live well!"
After saying this, Katherine didn't want to stay a moment longer and turned to leave.
Edwin called out, "Laura, wait."
Katherine stopped, "Mr. Mitchell, you got the name wrong. My name is Katherine, not Laura."
Edwin, helpless, had to correct himself, "Katherine, can you stay a little longer, just for a while?"
Katherine didn't want to, but since she was already here, she had to fulfill Sunny's request.
So she turned around, "If I stay with you a little longer, will you promise to eat well, take your medicine, and not think about dying again?"
Edwin nodded.
Only then did Katherine walk over and stand by his bedside, "Alright! I'll stay here with you a little longer. In the meantime, Mr. Mitchell, why don't you drink the oatmeal?"
Edwin looked at Katherine, showing a hint of a relieved smile.
That smile seemed to be because he was touched by Katherine's concern. He reached out and picked up the oatmeal on the bedside table.
Katherine just stood by and watched him drink, not saying a word or offering any help.
At this moment, Sunny's guilty voice came from outside, "Bernard, why are you here? How are Grandparents at home?"
Bernard noticed Sunny's odd reaction and frowned, "They're doing okay. What are you doing standing at the door? How is he?"
Sunny blocked the door, not wanting Bernard to go in, "Dad's condition is much better now. He's resting inside! Bernard, I think it's better if you don't go in and disturb him. Come back later. I'm here, so you can go handle your tasks without worrying!"
Bernard, sure that Sunny was hiding something, squinted his eyes, "Move aside, let me go in and see."
Sunny didn't dare to move, "Bernard, Dad is really sleeping. If you go in, you'll disturb him!"
Bernard snorted coldly, "What are you up to? Move aside right now! Don't make me angry!"
Sunny felt he couldn't avoid it anymore, "Bernard, I'll move aside, but you have to promise not to hit me! No matter what you see in there, you won't hit me, okay? Deal?"
