Chapter 330 You Think I Wouldn't Know?
Sunny frowned. "During those three months with the Melvilles, Alex must've caught feelings for you. Otherwise, why would he treat you so well? After you left, he was down for a while. He's only just started to recover, and things are going well with Scarlett. So, I hope you won't compete with Scarlett. She needs him more than you do; she's in poor health."
Katherine was momentarily stunned. She thought, 'Was Alex really down because of me? Ha, so what? He deserves it!'
He already had a woman and a kid, yet he couldn't resist messing with her emotions. Maybe he wanted to conquer her, and when he couldn't, he got frustrated.
Bernard looked at Katherine thoughtfully, his brow furrowed with concern. "Katherine... there are plenty of good men out there! If you like Bernard, I wouldn't mind having you as my future sister-in-law. He's just as good as Alex. I could even help you win him over!"
Katherine twitched her mouth. This kid was really willing to sacrifice Bernard for Scarlett's happiness!
"Relax, I won't compete with Scarlett for a man. I really don't have the time for that. And thanks for the offer, but you don't need to worry about my love life! I don't lack men. You can keep your precious brother for yourself!"
Feeling like his brother was being rejected, Sunny was a bit upset and scoffed. "Yeah, as soon as you arrived in Kryptonix City, a guy in a luxury car picked you up at the airport. Of course, you don't lack men!"
Katherine didn't bother to explain. Whatever he thought was fine.
Seeing that Katherine ignore his sarcasm, Sunny felt frustrated and said irritably, "Katherine, dno't be foolish. Many men deceive girls with their money and discard them when they're bored! Even if you don't like Bernard, you shouldn't settle for just anyone. It's easy to get deceived! If it really doesn't work out, you can be with me. I'll marry you! I told you before that as long as you don't compete with Scarlett for Alex, you can be with me!"
Katherine looked at Sunny's face, which had a 'If I don't go to hell, who will?' expression, and raised an eyebrow. "Look at you, acting all reluctant!"
Sunny pouted. "I'm not reluctant. I don't dislike you! It's just..."
"Just what?"
"It's just that I'm a non-marriage advocate. I never planned to get married in this lifetime, but I can make an exception for you!"
Katherine looked at him like he was an idiot. "Forget it! Even if you're willing to make an exception for me, I'm not interested in you!"
Sunny frowned, his childish temper flaring up, and he puffed out his chest. "Katherine! What's wrong with me? Why don't you like me?"
Katherine lightly tapped her temple with her finger. "It's obvious, there's something wrong up here!"
Damn! She actually said he was crazy! Sunny was furious, his head buzzing with anger, and his face turned ugly.
Seeing that he looked uncomfortable, Katherine became a bit more serious and stopped teasing. "Alright, I'm done kidding with you. You and Bernard don't need to sacrifice yourselves for Scarlett because I have no interest in Alex anymore."
Those few seconds of silence felt like an eternity for Katherine.
Even though she spoke with conviction, every time she mentioned that man, her heart still clenched.
Sunny's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Katherine nodded. "Really."
Sunny stared at her, feeling a bit conflicted despite getting the reassurance he wanted.
Katherine didn't want to keep talking about Alex, so she casually mentioned, "By the way, I saw your brother here today."
Sunny's eyes widened, and the cup in his hand slipped.
Luckily, Katherine was quick and caught it before it spilled all over the hospital bed.
Sunny swallowed hard, looking like he'd seen a ghost. "Did you... did you tell him I'm in Kryptonix City?"
"Not yet."
Katherine placed the cup on the cabinet beside her. "I was thinking of asking you if I should. He could come pick you up and take you home to recover."
Sunny let out a long sigh of relief and shook his head vigorously. "No! Please don't tell him. I'll go back first thing in the morning!"
Before Katherine could respond, the door to the hospital room swung open.
Bernard walked in with a graceful stride, his tone mocking yet stern. "Did you think just because she didn't tell me, I wouldn't know you snuck off to Kryptonix City?"
Sunny was stunned, his back instantly cold. "Bernard... why are you here..."
Before his brother could answer, Sunny turned and glared resentfully at Katherine.
Katherine was just as surprised by Bernard's appearance. She shrugged and spread her hands. "Don't look at me. I didn't tell him!"
Bernard gave Katherine a cold glance, then looked down at Sunny's sorry state with disdain. "With your survival skills, you think you can run away from home? It's not even been a day, and you're already a mess?"
Sunny weakly explained, "Bernard... I didn't run away from home. I just wanted to spend a day in K City. I'll go back tomorrow."
Bernard sneered. "You came out to have fun and ended up with a head injury?"
Sunny felt wronged. "It... it was an accident. I was trying to save a woman. I was in a hurry and hit my head. The woman was having an episode, and I went to help her."
Bernard had no patience for his good deeds and interrupted coldly, "You can't even protect yourself, and you want to meddle in other people's business? If you want to help others, you need to be capable first! Do you think you can be a good person like this? You're overestimating yourself!"
Sunny lowered his head in frustration, not daring to speak.
He had thought that by doing a good deed, Bernard might understand him a bit or even praise him.
Instead, he got criticism.
Sunny couldn't hold back his tears!
He kept his head down, not wanting anyone to see him crying at his age. It was so embarrassing! But he couldn't control it!
Noticing Sunny's tears falling on the blanket, leaving wet marks, Katherine, who had been sitting on the side, squinted slightly and furrowed her brow. After thinking for a moment, she spoke up, "Excuse me, may I say something?"
