Chapter 488 Righteous Indignation

When someone came out, Lillian and Sherry were startled and looked at Vincent and Hellen, confused.

Scarlett wasn't scared, just flustered and guilty. She glanced around, trying to argue, "Grandpa, Grandma, I don't know them. They must've taken Katherine's money to frame me."

Katherine walked out, chuckling. "The facts are right here. How can you still lie?"

Scarlett glared at Katherine, filled with resentment but unsure of how to respond.

Alice stepped up to defend Scarlett. "Katherine, what did my daughter say wrong? These two—your stepmother and sister—are helping you!"

Katherine looked at Alice, then at Lillian and Sherry, who were still clueless. "Do they look like they'd help me? Didn't you hear the nasty things they just said about me?"

Alice knew what was going on but insisted, "You must've talked to them beforehand! You must have planned everything carefully to frame Scarlett!"

Katherine stopped arguing with someone as unreasonable as Alice and turned to Vincent and Hellen. "You heard what my stepmother and sister said to Scarlett. You know who to believe, right?"

Lillian and Sherry realized they were in trouble after seeing Katherine. They panicked, trying to help Scarlett.

Lillian quickly said, "Sorry! We mistook her for someone else! We don't know Miss Mitchell; Katherine brought us here!"

Sherry nodded. "Yes, Katherine brought us and told us to frame her!"

Everyone fell silent.

Lillian and Sherry were the classic "idiot teammates."

If they hadn't turned on them, Alice's questioning might've held up. Now it was just awkward.

The Mitchell family living room was tense.

Vincent and Hellen watched Alice and Scarlett's stubborn denial, their frowns deepening, feeling nothing but disgrace for their family.

After a while, Hellen walked up to Katherine, took her hand, and said, "Katherine, we're truly sorry. We failed to teach our family properly and caused you grief."

Katherine shook her head. "No, it's not your fault. You don't need to apologize."

Vincent, leaning on his cane, walked over. "Katherine, don't worry. I'll make sure they get what's coming to them and give you justice!"

Katherine smiled. "Thanks for believing in me."

Lillian and Sherry, realizing they were in trouble and hearing Vincent's threat, thought he meant them. They panicked and tried to leave.

Lillian forced a smile. "Sorry, we have something to do at home. We should go now!"

Sherry clung to her mom's arm. "Goodbye!"

They bolted out. The servants, without orders, didn't stop them.

Vincent and Hellen didn't care about Lillian and Sherry; they were more focused on Alice and Scarlett, who had embarrassed them.

They sat down seriously.

Vincent frowned at Alice and Scarlett. "What do you two have to say now?"

Scarlett was on the verge of a breakdown, speechless.

Alice, unwilling to admit defeat, gritted her teeth. If Katherine made it impossible for them to stay in the Mitchell family, she wouldn't have a good time either.

"Dad, even if Scarlett did ask Lillian to expose Katherine's scandals online, how does that prove the scandals are false? Scarlett might just want to reveal Katherine's true face!"

Hearing this, Scarlett calmed down and played along. "Alright, I admit I asked Lillian to make the victims' plight public. I heard Katherine harmed that poor mother and daughter and couldn't bear to see them not get justice. I didn't admit it earlier because I was afraid you'd say I was meddling."

Scarlett started crying pitifully, her shoulders shaking.

Alice, looking aggrieved, held Scarlett's shoulder and glared at Katherine. "You keep saying the online rumors are false, but why don't you come forward to clarify and prove you're not that kind of person?"

The focus shifted back to Katherine.

Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Things have escalated online. Do you think anyone would believe me if I clarified now?"

Alice rolled her eyes and snorted. "If you can provide strong evidence to prove your innocence, people will believe you! If you can't and just clarify with words, how can people believe you? Katherine, don't you have any evidence?"

Katherine said, "No, I don't."

Alice seized the moment. "If you don't have evidence, you can't blame people for believing that poor mother and daughter!"
