Chapter 57 Flaming Tassels
Yeager's group of friends were still attacking Katherine.
"Alright! As long as you can play a piece today that wins the applause of all the students present, then you win! Don't apologize later. Whatever we ask you to do, you do it!"
Katherine remained calm. "It's a deal."
The leading girl added, "But if you don't play well and fail to gain the approval of our classmates, you'll have to crawl out of here. And we'll even film it and post it on the school forum! So, do you still dare to take the challenge?"
Katherine furrowed her brow, silent for two seconds. Then, after some consideration, she said, "I can."
The girl sneered, "Then go ahead and play. But if you lose, don't make excuses!"
Katherine turned and walked onto the stage, taking the violin from Yeager's hands.
Yeager insincerely advised, "Katherine, you really shouldn't take this challenge. Girls are keen on saving face. You'll be so embarrassed when you crawl out later!"
Katherine smiled. "I haven't played yet. How do you know for sure that I'll crawl out?"
Yeager sarcastically remarked, "Katherine, playing the violin is not as easy as playing the guitar. It's quite difficult! I'm just trying to save you from embarrassment!"
"Thank you for your concern." Katherine didn't say much, casually tuning the violin, and then asked, "Yeager, aren't you going to sing and dance? Aren't you ready to start?"
Yeager coldly snorted. She wasn't genuinely trying to advise Katherine. She was looking forward to seeing how Katherine, who was overestimating herself, would embarrass herself later!
She insincerely advised Katherine a few more times, then stood in the center of the small stage with a helpless look, adjusted the microphone, and prepared to dance.
However, she wasn't actually prepared to sing and dance...
Because she was certain that Katherine wouldn't be able to play anything, Katherine couldn't accompany her properly, so Yeager would have to sing and dance on her own later!
Amidst the anticipation and skepticism of the audience, Katherine finally started playing the violin.
The sound was unbearable!
Katherine played the violin in a completely unskilled manner, producing a harsh and unpleasant sound, which made the students in the audience show expressions of disdain...
"Oh my, I almost thought Katherine could actually play the violin!"
"Playing the violin like this, how can she even have the nerve to be on stage!"
"This is just terrible! It sounds so bad!"
"She's completely ruining Yeager's violin!"
"That's right!"
Yeager and her few close friends, however, secretly chuckled.
This was exactly the effect they wanted. Katherine had completely lost face today, and she was no longer the legendary all-around top student!
Not only that, she would have to crawl out later!
At this moment.
Several people had already gathered on the opposite terrace, their handsome or beautiful faces forming a splendid sight in the night sky...
"Hahaha!"
Sunny burst into laughter, "Alex, did you see that? Katherine's performance was a complete mess! Such an embarrassment!"
Sophie also smiled a hint of contempt in her eyes. Watching Katherine clumsily play the violin, she was taking quite some pleasure in Katherine's misfortune.
It was exactly as she had expected!
What could a village girl understand about elegant music and art?
Someone who came from such a remote and uncultured place, perhaps they could put in effort in their studies to become a top student, but it was not surprising that Katherine fell short in terms of artistic cultivation!
Issac watched indifferently, his face expressionless.
Hilton shook his head and sighed, placing his arm around his brother Alexander's shoulder. "Alex, it seems like your little wife isn't good at playing the violin, huh?"
Alexander narrowed his eyes and smiled slightly. "Is that so?"
Hilton was curious. Was that not the case? They both played the violin terribly, so what else was there to say?
Just then, the unpleasant noise coming from the other side suddenly transformed into a pleasant melody...
Hilton was taken aback and turned to look. He thought someone else had taken over, but he didn't expect that it was still Katherine playing the violin!
So, was she just playing around earlier?
Katherine remained indifferent, and the piece she played was the same modern style composition that Yeager had given her on the guitar sheet music.
The expressions of the students in the audience changed from disdain to confusion and then to admiration and enchantment...
Yeager and her friends were stunned.
They never expected that Katherine would actually be able to play the violin and bring out the melody!
The situation took a sudden turn, and Yeager's friends started reminding her on stage...
"Yeager, snap out of it! Start singing too!"
"Yes, Yeager, use your voice to cover up Katherine's accompaniment!"
"Yeager, don't forget to dance!"
With the reminders from her friends, Yeager snapped out of her daze. Finding the rhythm, she started singing the lyrics she had written, spinning and dancing...
She sang with great effort, intending to attract the attention of her classmates and steal the spotlight from Katherine!
In fact, she succeeded. Some of the students were already looking at her...
So, Yeager danced even more energetically!
Little did she know, Katherine's violin playing gradually sped up. Her skillful technique didn't resemble that of a first-time violinist at all, not even inferior to the renowned musicians in classical orchestras!
Her piece became faster and faster, yet she didn't miss a note or beat. This required absolute mastery.
Yeager's singing and dancing clearly couldn't keep up with the pace of the music. But she refused to give up. She sang and danced faster, trying to match the tempo...
However, she sang so fast that she ran out of breath, and with the added dancing, she accidentally became dizzy. She ended up uncontrollably sitting on the stage, looking somewhat disheveled and comical!
The audience erupted.
Yeager had fallen!
"Why is she singing her own song but still seems so unfamiliar with it!"
"Yeager sounds like she's out of breath, while Katherine's violin playing is so good!"
"That's right! Katherine is truly an all-around top student. Even though she's not from the music department, she plays the violin so well!"
As Yeager fell, Katherine didn't continue playing her piece.
She glanced indifferently at Yeager, who was sitting on the ground and then spoke to the audience, "Yeager's composition is in a modern style. Although I can play it on the violin, it doesn't quite suit the instrument. How about I play another violin piece for everyone?"
"Great!"
"We're looking forward to it!"
"Katherine, go ahead, we're listening!"
Katherine nodded with a smile, "I'll play a piece of Flaming Tassels for the soon-to-be departing students. I apologize if my performance is not up to par."
Her performance was light and spirited, exuding a sense of warmth and joy.
Her playing touched the hearts of the audience.
As the piece ended, there was a moment of silence.
The first applause came from the terrace across the way...
Katherine glanced over, her expression slightly frozen. Was it Alexander?
Alexander stood there, clapping his hands with a look of interest, his applause steady and powerful.
A smile of appreciation appeared on Alexander's usually unapproachable, handsome face.
How long had Alexander been standing there? And were all his friends watching the performance, too?
Sunny, in particular, seemed to be staring at her with a strange look in his eyes. When he snapped out of it, he glared at her fiercely!
"Well done! That was beautifully played!" Hilton exclaimed with great enthusiasm, leading the applause. His applause woke up those who were still immersed in the music, and suddenly, the whole place erupted in applause...
