During her month away from the Melville family, Katherine barely heard anyone mention Alex's name.

Katherine said, "Is there a difference?"
Jonathan answered, "Of course there is. Flirting is just for fun, but pursuing means I want a serious relationship with you."
A serious relationship? Katherine found it amusing. Alex had once said the same thing, and look how that turned out.
All this talk of pursuing was just a manifestation of the hunt and the desire for conquest!
Seeing her lack of reaction, Jonathan continued, "You were once Alex's wife in name, and Alex is my friend, so I couldn't have any improper thoughts about you. But now, we are both single. Why can't I express my feelings for you?"
Katherine picked up a piece of chicken nugget with her fork and dipped it in the hot pot. "Sorry, but I refuse."
"Why?" he asked.
Katherine added, "I'm very busy and not interested in relationships! Jonathan, if you have an overflow of love and want to do good deeds, find someone else! You look quite attractive, and I'm sure many girls like you."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow and then remarked, "But I'm only interested in you."
Katherine was about to retort, but Jonathan interrupted her smoothly, "Katherine, I know what you're going to say. Please don't rush to reject me, okay? You may not be interested in relationships now, but someday you will be. I'm not in a hurry. Let me get in line, and when you're ready for a relationship, come to me first. Is that okay?"
Katherine frowned in confusion. "Jonathan, what exactly do you see in me?"
