Chapter 397 Education and Utilization
Katherine glanced at Fiona, who was eating messily, and smirked.
"Fiona, I'm only calling you my sister because of Alex. But don't think I won't deal with you."
Fiona, feeling defiant, put down her fork. "What can you do to me? All you do is threaten me and get Alex to send me away! Besides using Alex, what else can you do?"
Katherine replied, "Sending you away is my last resort. I have plenty of other ways to handle you."
Fiona laughed. "Go ahead, tell me! Let's see if I'm scared!"
Katherine grinned. "For starters, I could post your old report cards at Janetrick University, showing everyone how you got in through family connections."
Fiona, who cared about her reputation, turned pale. Her grades had always been low, and she couldn't bear the thought of this being exposed. "Katherine, you wouldn't dare!"
Katherine continued, "Or, I could share that love letter you wrote to the popular guy at school, so everyone can see how 'eloquent' you are."
Fiona gritted her teeth. "Katherine, don't be so despicable!"
How did Katherine know about that love letter? No matter how she found out, it must never be made public. It was full of cheesy lines she copied from the internet, and the guy had rejected her. If her classmates saw it, she'd be a laughingstock.
Katherine looked at her lazily. "Despicable? Fiona, I treat people the way they treat me. If you think I'm despicable, it's because you were first."
Fiona slammed the table in anger. "Katherine, you set me up today, and now you have the nerve to say this! I don't know what Alex sees in a scheming woman like you!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Have you forgotten what you did to me? You pretended to invite me shopping, had someone knock me out, took me to a hotel to be assaulted, and then framed me as a prostitute to ruin my reputation! Just because I didn't fall for your trap completely doesn't mean you're innocent."
Fiona, feeling guilty, avoided eye contact. "I just wanted you out of our house. I didn't think it through."
Katherine remarked, " But you almost ruined someone's life."
Fiona was speechless and lowered her head.
Katherine knew Fiona wasn't smart enough to come up with such a plan on her own. Someone must have been advising her, likely Scarlett, who was good at manipulating people.
Thinking of this, Katherine said, "Forget it. You were punished by being detained at the police station for half a month. I can let bygones be bygones."
Fiona muttered arrogantly, "Hmph, now you're pretending to be all generous."
Katherine glanced at the messy room. "I asked you to do these chores because you tried to make me do them first. Now you know how it feels? Ever heard of 'treat others how you want to be treated'?"
Fiona's attitude softened a bit but she still didn't want to back down. "You... you... stop lecturing me. Who do you think you are?"
Katherine stayed calm. "How old are you?"
Fiona rolled her eyes. "Twenty-one, what's up?"
Katherine replied, "You're a year older than me, yet you're still living at home, being waited on. Most people your age are interning or working."
Fiona shrugged. "I don't need to compete for jobs with ordinary people. I don't lack money!"
Katherine nodded. "With your family background, you don't need to worry about your future. But if you meet someone you like, what do you think he'll like about you?"
Fiona fell silent.
She had someone she liked but he didn't like her back, and she couldn't figure out why.
Katherine continued, "Do you want your future husband to marry you for your family background or because he loves your excellence, kindness, independence, and unique charm? Which kind of love do you think lasts longer?"
Fiona stayed quiet.
Katherine added, "You're curious why Alex likes me, a country girl, and not Scarlett, who is beautiful and from a similar background, right?"
Fiona thought for a moment. "Because you seduced Alex!"
Katherine laughed. "Scarlett, like you, has been overly sheltered by her family. With nothing else to do, she fixates on a man, giving up everything to pursue him, losing herself, and resorting to any means necessary. This only makes the man bored and eventually annoyed.“
”But I live life on my terms, with my own pursuits and important things to do. I'm not obsessed with revolving around a man, which makes him appreciate and respect me."
Fiona frowned. "Fundamentally, Scarlett loves Alex too much, and you don't love Alex that much!"
Katherine smiled. "Whether I love Alex or not isn't something I need to prove to you."
Fiona glared. "Hmph! Then why are you telling me all this?"
"To remind you to look up the fate of those idle heiresses online! See how they are used and discarded when they are no longer useful? Fiona, you need to understand that your family background is just your support. You need to have your abilities and intelligence. Alex, your parents, and even your future husband can't guarantee that you can rely on them for a lifetime!"
Fiona was stunned, feeling that Katherine's words made some sense, but she was unwilling to admit it. "Hmph, scare tactics! I'm not idle. Who would use me?"
