Chapter 899 Stop Dreaming

After speaking, Sherry hurried back to the kitchen.

Joshua put down his fishing gear and lazily sat on the sofa, waiting for the soup.

Before long, Sherry came out with a steaming bowl of soup.

"Dad, try it and see how it tastes. I learned this just for you!"

Joshua was very hungry and didn't think much of it. He picked up the bowl, blew on it to cool it down, and took a sip.

The taste was not bad!

After drinking the delicious soup, Joshua felt much better. "Alright, you do have a knack for cooking. You should help your mom more in the kitchen from now on!"

Sherry was initially happy to be praised by Joshua, but when she heard him say she should cook more often, she became displeased.

"Dad, I can learn to cook your favorite dishes and make them for you occasionally! But asking me to cook every day is impossible! I have to go out for auditions and filming, and I need to take good care of my skin!"

Mentioning acting made Joshua angry. "You're still thinking about acting? Didn't I just tell you on the phone to find another job? Stop dreaming about being a star all day!"

Sherry retorted angrily, "Dad, this isn't a dream! I was popular before, wasn't I? You were happy when I was famous back then. Why don't you support my work now?"

Joshua replied, "I think you're still not thinking straight! You offended the Melville family back then. Who dares to go against the Melville family to make you famous? Even if you had a chance to make a comeback, the Melville family could bring you down with just one word!"

Sherry pouted unwillingly, "I offended the Melville family years ago; it doesn't matter anymore! Besides, I heard that Katherine's husband, Alex, went missing a few years ago. Without Alex, would the Melville family still care about Katherine? Dad, let me tell you, raising Katherine all these years was a waste. When it matters, I'm the one by your side, so you should support me!"

Joshua hadn't kept up with the Melville family's affairs and was genuinely surprised to hear that Alex was missing.

But he was only momentarily surprised and waved his hand irritably. "Alright, alright, don't talk to me about this anymore! If you want to keep acting, go ahead. Just don't come crying to me when you can't make a living from it!"

Sherry was unhappy and wanted to say more, but she was interrupted by her mother, Lillian, who had rushed home.

"Where are they? Where are those two women? Why didn't I see anyone at the door?" Lillian hurried in, not noticing the people in the room, and asked.

Sherry quickly cleared her throat to get Lillian's attention.

Lillian looked around and saw that Joshua was already home, her face turning a bit sour. "Joshua, you're home early today?"

Joshua frowned and asked, "What women were you talking about just now?"

Lillian felt a bit guilty. "Just..."

Not knowing how to explain to Joshua, Lillian looked to Sherry for help.

Sherry reacted quickly, "Dad, two ladies came to play cards with Mom earlier. I turned them away without telling Mom, so she thought they had come in!"

Lillian immediately smiled and cooperated with Sherry. "Yes, Joshua, they were my card friends. I thought Sherry had let them in!"

Joshua believed their story but showed his disgust. "All you do is play cards all day. From now on, stay home and go out less! How much money do you need to lose?"

Lillian felt a bit wronged. "Joshua, I don't lose every day. I won quite a bit today! Staying home is so boring."

Joshua said sternly, "You stay home, and your daughter stays home. Neither of you does anything productive. No matter how much money I had, it won't be enough to support you two!"

Lillian muttered, "Don't you go fishing every day and do nothing productive?"

Her voice was low, but Joshua still heard it!

Joshua glared, "What did you say?"

Seeing that Joshua and Lillian were about to argue, Sherry quickly stepped in to mediate. "Dad, there's still a lot of soup in the pot. Have some more, and if it's not enough, Mom can make you something delicious for dinner!"

Lillian, seeing Sherry's efforts, calmed down and smiled. "Yes, Joshua, what do you want to eat? I'll make it for you tonight!"

Seeing their good attitude, Joshua's anger subsided a bit. "Alright, stop hovering around me! I didn't catch a single fish today, and I'm already annoyed!"

Sherry's eyes lit up. "Speaking of fish, I just remembered! Dad, our neighbor recently bought a big fish tank and filled it with many exotic ornamental fish. They're really beautiful. Do you want to go take a look? Meanwhile, Mom and I can prepare dinner, and you can eat as soon as you get back!"

Joshua was very interested in fish. "Really? I hadn't heard about that! I'll go check it out!"

Sherry succeeded. "Go ahead. If you like fish, we can get some for our home too!"

Joshua finished his bowl of soup and, under Sherry's persuasion, went to the neighbor's house.

Finally getting Joshua out of the house, Sherry breathed a sigh of relief.

When she turned around, she saw her mother, Lillian, already in the kitchen preparing dinner.

Sherry, feeling a headache, went into the kitchen to find Lillian. "Mom, what are you doing?"

Lillian took some vegetables out of the fridge. "Preparing dinner for your dad! I don't know why he's in such a bad mood today. I'll make him something good to eat so he won't complain about us. By the way, Sherry, when did you learn to make soup?"

Sherry grabbed the vegetables from Lillian's hand and threw them aside. "Mom! Now is not the time for this! Don't you remember, there are still two suspiciously beautiful women waiting for you to deal with!"

"Right, I wanted to ask you! Where are those two women? They didn't get seen by your dad, did they?"

"Of course not. Do you think I went to all that trouble to get Dad out of the house for nothing?"

Lillian wiped her hands with a cloth and asked nervously, "Sherry, where did you put those two women? They're not in our house, are they?"

"They're in our house! I was afraid Dad would come back before you, so I locked them in the attic where Katherine used to stay!" Sherry said.
