Chapter 435 She Will Never Admit Defeat
Classic case of dodging blame.
Scarlett was always like this. She'd never own up if she found even the tiniest loophole.
Katherine didn't rush her. She took the gynecological report from Bernard, showed it to Scarlett, and flicked it lightly.
"Scarlett, if this report isn't yours, where's the real one?"
Scarlett was speechless, her mind racing for an answer.
If she said it was in the full report, Katherine would check it. If she claimed it was lost, it wouldn't make sense for just one page to be missing. She couldn't bluff her way out.
After thinking it over, she said, "I never had a gynecological exam, so I don't have a report!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Really? Why didn't you have an exam?"
Scarlett gave Alex a pitiful look and said, "I told the doctor I was infertile from a snake bite as a child. The doctor sympathized and didn't insist on an exam."
Her story was meant to evoke sympathy.
But Katherine chuckled. "Scarlett, you lie without even blinking!"
Scarlett, thinking her story was flawless, looked offended. "Katherine, I'm not lying! Why are you targeting me?"
Katherine didn't argue. She handed the report back to Scarlett, pointing to the bottom. "See the small print?"
Scarlett frowned and saw a small number, 4. At first, it seemed insignificant, but then she realized and froze.
Katherine smiled. "You didn't expect this, did you? The hospital paginates their reports. If the report you brought back is missing the fourth page, we'll know if this one's yours!"
With that, Katherine tilted her chin slightly.
Alex, exuding authority, walked over, picked up the report Bernard had placed on the cabinet, flipped through it, and narrowed his eyes.
Then, Alex handed the report to Bernard. "Take a look."
Bernard, already frustrated by his sisters' standoff, now had to see who was lying. His temples throbbed.
He flipped through the report. Sure enough, the fourth page was missing.
He had already been disappointed in Scarlett once. Now, seeing the truth, he found it laughable.
Utterly laughable!
His years of foolish indulgence were laughable!
Scarlett's recent lies were even more laughable!
Bernard calmed down. He handed the report to Scarlett, his tone cold. "Take a good look yourself."
Scarlett took it stiffly but didn't flip through it. She didn't need to; she knew the result better than anyone.
She never expected that discarded gynecological report to be paginated！Damn it!
Suddenly, Scarlett felt a couple of taps on her left shoulder. She looked up to see Katherine patting her.
Katherine smiled. "You're lucky. After drinking that big glass of pomegranate juice with saffron, your reproductive function is still normal!"
Scarlett was speechless.
Katherine must be feeling victorious now, right?
No, it's not over yet!
She could still turn this around; she wouldn't lose to Katherine!
After quickly calculating in her mind, Scarlett started crying again.
This time, she didn't cry for forgiveness but lowered her head in self-reproach, sobbing like a child who had done something wrong, letting her tears fall.
"...I was wrong... I selfishly lied."
"I didn't want everyone to see my gynecological report and know that my infertility had been cured."
”Because I still have feelings for Alex, I still love him. I can't let him go.“
”I knew that if he found out my infertility was cured, he would never care about me again! So I resisted getting the report, afraid of being found out!“
