Chapter 587 Don't Worry
Katherine shot him a look like he’d lost his mind. "Just give it up, dude! I’m not having another kid, and I’m definitely not looking for a stepdad for mine!"
Jonathan pretended to be all frustrated and said, "But Katherine, I took a huge risk getting you out of the Melville family, and you promised to date me for a month after that!"
Katherine sighed, "Yeah, yeah, I remember. A date’s a date, but don’t get any funny ideas. I’m not into that anymore."
Jonathan gave her a deep look and tried to reach out, but Katherine dodged him like he had cooties.
His hand just hung there awkwardly before he pulled it back with a grin. "No worries. You just got out of a mess with Alex. I’ll give you time. One day, you’ll come around."
Katherine wasn’t having any of it. "Alright, Jonathan, thanks for the help today. I’ll crash here for a few days like you said. You can get back to your stuff now!"
Then she remembered something. "Oh, and don’t tell Bernard I’m here."
Jonathan nodded, looking all serious. "Got it, but he’s really worried about you."
Katherine paused for a sec. "I don’t care if he’s worried. The fewer people know, the better!"
Jonathan gave her an OK sign before Katherine practically shoved him out the door and locked it behind him.
'Katherine’s got some nerve kicking me out!' Jonathan thought.
'It’s not that I’m rude; I just know the longer Jonathan stays, the more he’ll hit on me! Plus, it’s not cool for a guy and a girl to be alone together!' she thought.
After booting Jonathan, Katherine flopped back on the sofa, finally letting her tired body relax. Her mood settled, but she felt this weird emptiness. Alex must know by now that she’ve bailed, right?
Over at the Melville family’s place.
Jackie was chilling in a wheelchair, reading a book, when he heard a ruckus outside.
A bodyguard wheeled in Sandra, with Charles carrying Fiona right behind.
The servants rushed over to help out.
Jackie frowned. "What’s going on? You were fine when you left. Why are you in a wheelchair now? What happened?"
After handing the crying Charles to a maid, Fiona walked over to Jackie. "Jackie, Katherine’s gone. Sandra fainted from the shock, but don’t worry, the doc said she’ll be fine with some rest."
Jackie’s eyes went wide. "What? Katherine’s missing? How could she just vanish?"
Fiona shook her head, looking lost. "I don’t know either, but it seems like Katherine ran away on purpose."
"Ran away? Why would she do that? Haven't we treated her well in the Melville family?" Jackie asked, looking puzzled.
"I think it's 'cause Alex had a bunch of bodyguards watching her all the time and wouldn't let her go out. Katherine got pissed," Fiona guessed.
Jackie frowned. "She ran away 'cause she was mad? Fine, let her be. Let's see how long she can stay away!"
Sandra, who was slumped in the wheelchair, suddenly straightened up and clutched her chest. "What nonsense! Don't you get it? Katherine hates the Melville family! If we don't find her soon, she'll never come back!"
Jackie looked worried but still said, "If she doesn't come back, then so be it!"
Sandra, however, was so worried that she started crying. "Katherine is pregnant. What if something happens to her out there?"
Seeing Sandra like that, Jackie waved his hand. "Alright, take Sandra to her room to rest! Send more people to find Katherine!"
"Yes, sir!"
Under Jackie's orders, Sandra was taken back to her room to rest.
Charles was still bawling in the maid's arms and couldn't be calmed down.
Fiona told the maid to take Charles to her room.
Finally, the place quieted down.
Jackie looked out the floor-to-ceiling window, deeply worried. It was a lie to say he wasn't concerned about Katherine!
"Jackie, why don't we call the cops? With their help, we might find Katherine faster!" Fiona suggested as she walked up to Jackie.
Jackie glanced at Fiona. "Calling the cops will take time for an investigation. Let's keep looking ourselves first!"
Fiona pouted, "Then what should we do? Alex is abroad. He must be freaking out now that he knows Katherine is missing!"
Jackie raised an eyebrow. "What? Alex already knows? Who told you to tell him so quickly? Now he can't come back and will just be worried!"
Fiona shook her head innocently. "It wasn't me! The bodyguards outside informed him right away. They're all his people, so they reported to him immediately."
Jackie's frown deepened, and he rubbed his forehead. "Alright, go to Alex's room and see if you can find any clues!"
"Okay, I'll go look now!" Fiona nodded and quickly headed upstairs.
The room wasn't locked, so Fiona entered easily.
She looked around but didn't find any suspicious clues until she heard a phone ringing.
Following the sound, she found a phone—it was Katherine's. She hadn't even taken her phone with her.
The caller ID showed Alex.
Without thinking, Fiona answered the call, and Alex's anxious and tense voice immediately came through, "Where did you go?"
Fiona said, "Alex, it's me..."
Alex paused and then asked, "Have you found her?"
Fiona regretfully replied, "Not yet, Alex. Don't worry too much."
