Chapter 638 It's Just Lunch
Teresa was feeling really confused and asked, "It's just lunch, right?"
Frank, looking even more dashing in the candlelight, leaned in with a smirk. "Yeah, but who says lunch can't have a little romance?"
Teresa shot back, "If you’d done this before, maybe. But now, it's awkward."
Frank chuckled, "Why? Cause you got a boyfriend now?"
Teresa's face got serious. "Exactly! Sneaking around with you behind Anthony's back feels all kinds of wrong and awkward!"
Frank just shrugged, looking all smug. "If you didn't care, you wouldn't feel awkward. It means you still have feelings for me."
Teresa was getting ticked off. "Mr. Perez, you're being super annoying right now! I'm starting to like you less, so back off."
Frank grinned. "And it hasn't hit zero yet, right?"
This lunch was a total bust; Teresa couldn't eat a thing. Ignoring Frank, she pulled out her phone and called Alex. "Alex, where are you?"
Alex's voice came through, cold and deep. "On the road."
Teresa asked, "Heading to the office or leaving?"
Alex cut to the chase. "What do you need?"
Teresa said, "I need you to come get me. Then we can go find Katherine and bring her lunch. You can clear up the misunderstanding with her. Alex, she's pregnant but still super attractive. If you don't fix things, she might start seeing other guys."
Before she could finish, Alex hung up. Teresa's face froze, and she frowned, cursing in her head, 'Seriously, Alex? Not even letting me finish?'
Frank laughed. "Trying to get Alex to save you and failed?"
Teresa snapped back, glaring at him. "Shut up!"
She wanted Alex to come get her; only then would Frank back off. If she left now, she wouldn't make it out. Without finishing this meal, she was stuck.
Frank's smile was all smug. "Since you know you can't escape, just have lunch with me. After lunch, I'll take you out."
Teresa did want to eat, but all they'd gotten were appetizers, and she'd already finished those to kill the awkwardness.
Just as she was about to put down her phone, it buzzed again. Seeing it was Anthony, she picked up. "Hey?"
Anthony asked, "Teresa, where are you?"
Teresa shot a nervous look at Frank. "I'm at a restaurant for lunch. What's up? Isn't your meeting about to begin?"
Anthony chuckled. "I took the day off! After I told you about the meeting, I couldn't focus. Felt bad making you come all this way for nothing, so I bailed on the meeting. Teresa, which restaurant are you at? I'll come find you!"
"I..." Teresa was at a loss. If Anthony showed up and saw this candlelit setup, he'd definitely get the wrong idea.
Anthony, sensing her hesitation, asked, "What's up, Teresa? Why aren't you saying anything?"
After a quick thought, Teresa said, "Anthony, the place I'm at is kind of far, and I'm almost done eating. How about next time?"
Anthony sounded bummed. "But I already took the day off. Doesn't matter if it's far; I'll grab a cab. If you're done, I'll just pick you up and take you home!"
Anthony was really sweet and patient, but she couldn't let him see this scene. It'd break his heart.
The private room was dead quiet, and Frank heard everything. He grinned at Teresa. "He took the day off for you, so let him come join us."
Anthony caught Frank's voice. "Teresa, are you with someone else? Don't you want me to come?"
Teresa panicked. "No."
Anthony pressed, "I just heard a guy's voice!"
Teresa felt guilty. "That was... anyway, it's not what you think!" She couldn't admit she was having lunch with Frank.
Anthony, clearly upset, said, "Fine. If you don't want me to come, I won't bother you."
With that, he was about to hang up.
Teresa could feel Anthony's anger. In a rush, she said, "I'll send you the address! Come pick me up!"
Anthony paused. "Can I really come?"
Teresa sighed, "Yes, then I'll explain everything when you get here."
Anthony laughed. "Okay! Wait for me!"
After hanging up, Teresa felt a headache coming on. How was she gonna explain this candlelit lunch to Anthony?
"Mr. Perez, can we switch to a regular room? One that doesn't look so romantic. My boyfriend's coming, and I don't want him to get the wrong idea." She tried to reason with Frank.
Frank smiled but was firm. "No."
Teresa glared at him. "Why? Don't you think this is inappropriate? It looks like I'm cheating!"
Frank chuckled. "I don't think so."
Teresa stood up, fuming. "Then, I'm going to another room to wait for Anthony!"
She headed for the door, but the waiter stopped her. "Miss, the main course hasn't been served yet; you can't leave."
Teresa snapped, "I'm not eating anymore!"
The waiter politely blocked her way. "Then please wait until Mr. Perez finishes eating, and you can leave together."
Teresa was speechless and turned to glare at Frank.
Frank sipped his juice with a smug smile, clearly not planning to let her go.
