Chapter 490 Well-Maintained
Edwin sighed, turned away, and headed inside to wash his hands, only to bump into Bernard on his way out.
"Didn't go to the office today?" Edwin asked, concerned.
Bernard gave him a cold look. "I'm going now."
As Bernard walked past him, Edwin, used to this, went inside.
Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Alice and Scarlett were huddled together, crying.
Edwin glanced at them, unfazed, and went straight upstairs to wash his hands.
In the living room, Vincent snapped, "Why are you two crying? Especially you, Scarlett. Look at what you've done!"
Scarlett, eyes red, looked hurt. "Grandpa..."
Alice tried to defend her daughter. "Dad, Scarlett, she..."
Vincent cut her off. "Alice, shut up! This is the Scarlett you raised. I see Scarlett has learned from you. She'll use any dirty trick to get what doesn't belong to her!!"
Alice looked embarrassed and cried louder. "Why do you believe an outsider over us? Scarlett exposed Katherine's issues, but if Katherine really did those things, Scarlett was just doing the right thing!"
Vincent frowned but stayed silent. Hellen, rubbing her temples, spoke up, "We'll know the truth after the exam results in three days. Enough talking and crying. I have a headache!"
Vincent, seeing Hellen's discomfort, scolded, "Stop crying and get on with it! Do you want to drive us to our graves?"
Alice, seeing this, reluctantly pulled Scarlett upstairs.
Vincent asked Hellen, "Do you need a doctor?"
Hellen waved him off. "I'm fine, just need some quiet."
Vincent relaxed a bit.
Alice took Scarlett to her room, closed the door, and said, "Stop crying! We need to make sure Katherine fails the exam in three days!"
Scarlett, desperate, said, "Mom, how? The exam is live-streamed, and Katherine is a top student!"
Alice looked disappointed. "Are you giving up already? As long as the result isn't final, there's still a chance!"
Scarlett, hopeful, asked, "Mom, what can we do? I can't think of anything!"
Alice thought for a moment. "You need to find the best high school teacher in Janetrick to tutor Fern right away!"
Scarlett frowned. "Mom, there's only three days. No amount of tutoring will make her better than Katherine."
Alice's eyes gleamed with a plan. "Didn't Katherine say your Grandpa could arrange the exam questions? I'll get the questions for you in the next day or two. Katherine won't stand a chance against someone who knows all the answers."
Scarlett's eyes lit up. "Alright! Let's do it! This time, we'll ruin Katherine for good!"
Alice nodded. "Get a tutor for Fern. Even if she memorizes the answers, she needs to understand the basics to avoid suspicion."
Scarlett agreed. "Okay, I'll arrange it right away!"
After leaving Scarlett's room, Alice went to her own just as Edwin finished his shower and was changing.
Edwin, in shorts and bare-chested, had a great physique. Despite some age lines on his face, his body was still fit and toned.
Alice's eyes heated up at the sight of his eight-pack abs, and she swallowed hard.
Edwin, noticing her, grabbed a towel and draped it over himself, looking disgusted. "Why didn't you knock?"
Alice, feeling wronged, frowned. "Edwin, we're married with two kids! Do I need to knock to come into our room?"
Though it was called their shared room, they had never actually lived together. Edwin always slept in a small partitioned area of the bedroom.
The partition was so small it could only fit a folding single bed, with no space to change clothes, so his clothes were kept outside, and he had to use the outside bathroom to change.
Edwin ignored her, took his clothes, and went into the partition to change.
Alice couldn't hold back any longer and hugged him from behind, rubbing against his body. "Edwin, how long are you going to ignore me? It's been years. Don't you want it? Or have you been satisfying your needs elsewhere all this time? No woman outside is as clean as I am! Edwin, I'm so lonely. Don't make me sleep alone anymore, okay?"
Alice's voice was soft and seductive, enough to tempt any man with weak self-control.
However, Edwin was unmoved and said with extreme displeasure, "Let go."
Alice didn't want to let go and continued to explore his body. "Edwin."
Edwin, unable to bear it any longer, pried her hands off and forcefully twisted her away, throwing her to the ground. "Isn't this the life you schemed so hard to get? The position of Mrs. Mitchell is already yours. Isn't that enough?"
Alice fell to the ground but didn't give up. She turned her head, looking at Edwin with seductive eyes, and unbuttoned her shirt. "What I want is your love, not this position! Edwin, look at me. I've kept myself in good shape for you all these years!"
