"Come on, Mr. Melville, quit joking! What am I supposed to check? I'm not sick. I don't need any examination!"
Katherine tried to yank her wrist free, but she was too tired.
Where did Leander park the car? And why wasn't he back yet?

Alex stood up, yanking her closer, his eyes boring into hers.

"Mr. Melville, you're overthinking! What do I have to be afraid of? I just think that as a married woman, going to a gynecologist with a man who isn't my husband might cause misunderstandings if any acquaintances saw us and affect both our reputations!"
He sneered. "If you have nothing to hide, what's the problem? Come with me, Ms. Galatea!"
"Let go of me. I'm not going..." Katherine dug her heels into the hospital floor, refusing to move.

Alex froze, the heat in his eyes instantly cooling. He turned sharply to the doctor. "I'm sorry. Did you just say how many days into the pregnancy?"
The man's gaze was so cold it sent a chill down the gynecologist's spine. "Twenty days! The fetus is still unstable in the mother's womb, so you must refrain from intimacy."

Alex, no longer calm, snatched the test report from the doctor's hand and looked at it himself.
Indeed, it said—early pregnancy, twenty days!
Twenty days meant that the child in her belly was conceived after she left the Melville family, after she left him?!
The child in her belly was from another man!
Alex's knuckles cracked as he gritted his teeth and coldly threw the test report in her face. "Katherine, you really moved on quickly. You left the Melville family and got into bed with another man in no time!"
