Chapter 646 I Woudn't Agree

Katherine figured Alex only gave a damn about the baby. As a mom, she couldn't let her kid get hurt, and she sure as hell wasn't gonna let her kid get mixed up with him.

Katherine tried to dodge around Leander, but he blocked her path. "Mrs. Melville."

" Get out of the way," Katherine snapped, making Leander jump back, and she managed to get into her car.

But Leander wasn't giving up that easy. He ran to the driver's side, whispered something to the driver, and the driver got out.

At this point, she was done talking. As long as she got where she needed to go, that was all that mattered.

The car rolled up the slope to the hotel lobby and stopped at the entrance.

The doorman stepped up and opened the car door. Katherine grabbed his arm and got out.

Leander got out too, tossed the keys to the doorman for parking, and trailed Katherine inside.

Katherine was moving slowly, so Leander matched her pace, worried she might slip.

The place was already buzzing with guests. Katherine's eyes scanned the crowd and the murals on the banquet hall walls, looking for the one she needed to see.

"Katherine," Sophia called out.

Recognizing Sophia's voice, Katherine didn't look over right away and kept scanning the wall.

Sophia, all smiles, walked up to her. "Katherine, so glad you made it!"

Katherine gave her a slight smile, not in the mood for chit-chat. She was here for Lotus's legacy, and she knew Sophia's warm welcome was just an act.

Sophia glanced at Leander behind Katherine and then around the room. "Katherine, didn't Alex come with you?"

Katherine shot back, "How would I know if he did? If you're so curious, why not call him yourself?"

Katherine thought, 'It's kinda funny. You two are married. Why ask me about his whereabouts?'

Sophia's smile stayed bright. "You're right. I'll call Alex myself later then."

Leander chimed in, "No need. Mr. Melville's busy with something else right now. He'll be here later."

"Got it." Sophia nodded. "Well, Katherine, let me introduce you to some of our mutual friends!"

Katherine doubted they had any mutual friends. "No need, Sophia. Go entertain the other guests. I'll just wander around."

Sophia insisted, "No way! Katherine, you're pregnant; you can't stand for long. Come on, let me take you over there to sit down, and I'll get you something to eat and drink."

Despite her dislike for Sophia, Katherine couldn't refuse the hospitality and had to follow her.

Sophia led her over to the VIP area with some sofas, and it wasn't exactly a quiet spot. Three dudes were already lounging there.

Hilton was holding a wine glass, chatting it up with Issac and Jonathan. When he saw Sophia bringing Katherine over, he squinted. "Look who it is! Katherine, the one who ditched Alex!"

Katherine glanced at Hilton but didn't bother responding.

Issac looked a bit surprised to see her and gave a polite nod. Jonathan, on the other hand, couldn't stop grinning.

Sophia brought Katherine over. "Katherine, you know these guys, right? Sit here for a bit, and I'll grab you something to eat!"

Katherine plopped down on an empty sofa.

Sophia then chirped to Hilton and the others, "I gotta entertain my other guests. Keep an eye on Katherine for me!"

Hilton, with a mischievous grin, raised his glass. "No problem! We can catch up; it's been a while, right, Katherine?"

Katherine still ignored him.

"Alright! With you guys keeping an eye on her, I'm good to go! I'll head over there first" Sophia gave Katherine a look, then smiled and walked off.

As soon as Sophia left, Hilton slid over next to Katherine with his wine glass, squinting at her. "Your belly's pretty big now. When's the baby due?"

Jonathan had wanted to sit next to Katherine but wasn't quick enough. He sat back down and said, "Hilton, quit teasing her!"

Hilton looked at Jonathan. "I'm just asking when she's due, nothing more! Why are you so protective of her?"

Jonathan just smiled. "It's everyone's job to look out for pregnant women."

Hilton chuckled, "Oh, come on! I think you've got some other thoughts. Watch out, or Alex might have a problem with you."

Jonathan's smile stayed, but his eyes showed a hint of annoyance.

Hilton didn't catch on that his joke was off and turned back to Katherine. "Katherine, you're something else, ditching Alex twice!"

Katherine grabbed a glass of juice from a passing waiter, stirred the ice with the straw, and raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Allen, watch your mouth. I didn't ditch him."

Hilton was intrigued. "Didn't ditch him? Then why did you sneak away?"

Katherine replied, "I didn't sneak away. I left openly."

Hilton pressed, "Alright, let's say you left openly. But why? Isn't being Alex's wife good?"

Katherine smiled. "Do you think being Alex's wife is good?"

Hilton chuckled, "Of course!"

Katherine laughed. "Then why don't you go for it? With your long-standing friendship with Alex, I'm sure he'd be happy to make that happen for you."

Hilton's smile froze, and he made a defensive gesture. "What a joke! I like girls! Even if Alex agreed, I wouldn't!"
