Chapter 114 Do You Like Alex

Hearing the voice, Katherine turned her head and saw Sophie standing not far away, holding a chestnut horse and looking at her.

Katherine raised an eyebrow and questioned, "Ms. Jones, is your foot healed so quickly?"

Teresa had gone to another row of stables to fetch her horse.

At this moment, there was no one else around, and Sophie no longer pretended to be friendly, showing Katherine her straightforward hostility.

"Of course, it's not fully healed, but a little injury won't stop me from riding!" Sophie retorted.

At that time, Sophie's scream was so loud that anyone would have thought a tiny earring ruined her foot!

And now, she could stand and hold the horse so nimbly. It was hard to believe she wasn't faking it back then!

Katherine smiled slightly. "Good then."

She didn't want to talk much with Sophie and stopped looking at her, continuing to walk towards the horse she had chosen.

Sophie coldly mocked again, "Katherine, you'd better stay away from that horse. Even if you can lead it out, you won't be able to ride it!"

Katherine paused, feeling that Sophie's words were not just simple mockery. She looked at the horse and then turned to Sophie. "What do you mean by that, Ms. Jones?"

Sophie's eyes were full of contempt, and she said arrogantly, "That horse has an owner and only recognizes its owner. No one else has successfully ridden it!"

Katherine was a bit curious and asked, "And who is its owner?"

"You don't need to know! If you have any sense, pick another horse. Don't overestimate yourself and end up scaring someone else's horse!" Sophie's dislike for her was blatant and undisguised.

Katherine actually found this straightforwardness refreshing and smiled. "Thank you for the kind reminder, Ms. Jones. But can I ask you another question?"

Sophie frowned, looking at her with disdain. "What is it?"

Katherine asked, "Ms. Jones, are you targeting me because you like Alex?"

Sophie looked quite frank and answered, "Alex and I, and the Hilton family, have been family friends for generations. We've known each other since childhood. Our relationship is very pure. A village girl like you wouldn't understand!"

Katherine didn't mind the sarcasm in her words and asked again, "If you don't like Alex, then why are you targeting me? You framed me for the watch incident and what happened today on purpose, didn't you? Isn't it because you want Alex to hate me?"

Sophie snorted without shame, "Since you want to know so badly, I'll tell you! Alex is my best friend's man. I can't watch a country girl like you steal my best friend's man and make her sad!"

Katherine instantly understood and asked, "So, your best friend is Scarlett?"

"That's right!" she then replied.

"If you all care so much about her, Scarlett must be a wonderful person, right?" Katherine questioned again.

Mentioning Scarlett, Sophie looked proud and smug. "Of course! Scarlett is the best girl in the world! She's noble, gentle, kind, and academically excellent, someone a country girl like you could never compare to!"

Katherine nonchalantly smiled and said, "Oh, really?"

Sophie couldn't stand Katherine's indifferent attitude, as if nothing could hurt her, and ground her teeth in frustration.

"Katherine, since we've brought up Scarlett, let me tell you more! Alex and Scarlett loved each other. They were only forced apart due to some family issues, but that doesn't mean you can take advantage and become Mrs. Melville!" Sophie stated seriously.

Katherine lowered her eyes and sighed with some frustration. "You might not believe it, but I'm not interested in Alex, and I don't care about being Mrs. Melville at all! Ms. Jones, you're wasting your time and effort playing tricks on me!"

Sophie was stunned and looked at her with great skepticism. "What? You don't care? Then do you dare to swear that nothing has happened between you and Alex and that you have no feelings for him at all?"

Katherine remained silent. She really couldn't make that vow because something had indeed between her and Alex - they had slept together.

Of course, it was out of necessity!

But others wouldn't understand her unwillingness. Even if she explained, no one would believe that Katherine was just trying to save a life at that time.

So, it was best to keep this matter a secret forever.

Once the three-month cooperation period ended, she would leave Melville Manor and disappear from Alex's life completely. Her actions would naturally prove better than any vow that she had no interest in anything related to the Melville Manor and felt no attachment.

She didn't need to swear at all!

Seeing Katherine's prolonged silence, Sophie sneered again, "You don't dare to swear? If you don't dare, how can you claim that you're not interested in Alex or the position of Mrs. Melville? People like you, who come from poverty, won't let go easily once you've climbed up!"

Katherine couldn't be bothered to say more to her; it wasn't necessary.

At this moment, Teresa came over with her horse. "Katherine, have you chosen your horse yet?"

Just after asking Katherine, Teresa saw Sophie standing there and immediately frowned.

"Sophie, didn't you hurt your foot? How can you still ride? Were you faking the pain earlier?" Teresa asked.

Sophie was still polite to Teresa and immediately put on a gentle and kind expression. "Teresa, I felt much better after resting for a while. It's rare for everyone to come together, and I didn't want to miss the chance to ride with you all, so I'm trying to hold on."

Teresa rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, "No one wants to ride with you anyway!"

Ignoring Sophie, Teresa walked over to Katherine with her horse. "Katherine, have you chosen your horse? If you have, let's take them out!"

Katherine nodded and pointed to Teresa. "Yes, I've chosen. It's that one!"

She hadn't changed her mind and still chose the horse with a white body and a black spot on its forehead.

Sophie frowned at Katherine. Katherine still dared to choose that horse; she was simply overestimating herself!

Teresa saw which horse it was and shook her head repeatedly. "Katherine, that horse won't do! Many people have been thrown off its back before, and some even broke bones. For safety's sake, you should choose another one!"

Even Teresa said so, which showed that this horse really had a fierce temperament!

Loyal to its owner, unyielding, with character.

She liked such a horse!

Sophie sneered and then said, "Teresa, since Katherine insists on choosing that horse, let her try! Maybe she can really tame that wild horse!"

The horse was chosen by Katherine herself. If she got thrown off and hurt, she couldn't blame anyone else! She deserved it!
