Chapter 470 Awkwardness
"I just want Katherine to make up for Fern not going to college, get her a good job at the Melville Group, and publicly admit she took Fern's SAT scores and apologize!"
Hearing the request, Katherine lifted her head from Alex's embrace and glanced amusedly at Camlia. But Alex's rough hand gently turned her face back, pressing it against his chest to shield her from the sight of those vile people.
Alex shot a cold glance at Fern, who was just crying next to Camlia. "Your daughter didn't go to college, so she's not qualified to work at the Melville Group."
Camlia frowned. "She didn't get an education because Katherine took her spot! Katherine's your wife now, so you should fix her mistakes. You're the president of the Melville Group; getting Fern a job is easy for you!"
Alex stayed indifferent. "You can't prove Katherine took Fern's spot. Bringing this up without proof is pointless."
Camlia, though intimidated, insisted. "Katherine's truancy in high school proves she wasn't good at studying!"
Alex disagreed. "Truancy doesn't mean someone is bad at studying. There are geniuses out there. If you can't prove Katherine took Fern's scores, then retake the SAT with the original test papers and see who scores higher."
Camlia's face changed. "That's unfair! Katherine's been at a prestigious university, while Fern's been working in the fields. She can't remember everything."
Before Alex could respond, Sandra snapped. "You have no proof and are just causing trouble! The Melville family won't tolerate this! Show them out!"
"Yes, Madam," the servants replied, surrounding them.
Camlia, realizing she was about to be kicked out, got desperate. "How can you kick us out? If Katherine's your family, you should take responsibility for her mistakes! I just want a public apology and a decent job for Fern. Is that too much to ask?"
"Until you provide solid evidence, nothing's happening," Alex said calmly. "Anton, get them out."
"Yes, sir!"
Anton called the house guards, who dragged Camlia and Fern out.
Camlia struggled and shouted, "Katherine, you ruined Fern's life! I won't let this go! The Melville family will face retribution! We may be poor, but we're not afraid of you. Let's see who suffers more in the end! Fern, let's go! We'll find another way to get justice!"
Outside, Camlia's angry shouts and Fern's sobs echoed.
With Camlia and Fern gone, the Galatea family stood awkwardly in the living room.
Fiona, hands on her hips, sneered, "What? You three planning to stay the night?"
They snapped out of it and quickly got up.
Before leaving, Joshua said nervously, "They came to our house causing trouble, demanding we take responsibility. We had no choice but to bring them to Katherine. If they offend the Melville family later, it's not our fault!"
Sandra's disdain for Joshua was clear. She couldn't believe he was Katherine's adoptive father.
Katherine was nothing like the Galatea family. Thankfully, she hadn't been influenced by their pettiness.
Even Fiona looked down on Joshua. She waved dismissively. "Go on, leave. Don't be an eyesore!"
Alex ignored Joshua and looked at Katherine in his arms. "Teresa called looking for you. She couldn't reach you."
Katherine patted herself, realizing she didn't have her phone. "I left my phone in the bedroom. What did she want?"
Alex shook his head. "She wouldn't tell me, only you."
"Let me go. I'll call her back."
"Let's go together."
Alex stood up, lifting her with him.
Katherine blushed and complained, "Alex, Grandma is still here! Put me down!"
Alex didn't care and asked, "Grandma, do you mind if I carry your granddaughter-in-law upstairs?"
Sandra was thrilled to see them so sweet. The more loving they were, the sooner she'd get a great-grandchild!
Sandra smiled broadly. "I don't mind! How could I mind you newlyweds being affectionate? Katherine, don't be shy. Alex rarely shows his feelings!"
Katherine twitched her mouth in his arms. "Grandma..."
She was mortified, wishing she could disappear. More embarrassingly, she was being carried by Alex and couldn't even run away!
