Chapter 478 Alex, I'll Spport You Financially
Jackie slammed his wheelchair armrest and snorted, "He disagrees? Who's the grandpa here? As long as I'm alive, Alex won't get his way!"
Sandra looked worried, about to say something, but a voice interrupted from behind.
"Sorry, Grandpa, for the trouble. I'll make sure to restore the family's reputation and cover all your losses."
Jackie, still fuming, turned to see Katherine and Alex standing nearby. He frowned even more.
Sandra looked embarrassed. "When did you get here? Why didn't you say anything?"
Alex replied calmly, "Just now."
Jackie eyed Katherine. "You said you'd make up for the Melville family's losses? How?"
Katherine stayed calm. "I can't prove anything yet, but if I don't deliver, I'll leave the Melville family myself."
Jackie, skeptical, thought she was just being reckless. "Fine! I'll wait and see."
Katherine nodded and turned to Sandra with a smile. "Grandma, I'm tired. I'll go rest. You and Grandpa should rest too."
Sandra, feeling bad about her husband's attitude, said gently, "Alright, Katherine. Don't mind your grandpa. I believe in you."
Katherine smiled and went upstairs.
Jackie snorted, "Arrogant girl!"
Alex, still standing, said coldly, "Grandpa, if there's nothing else, you should rest too." Then he followed Katherine upstairs.
Jackie glared at Alex, feeling insulted. Sandra gave him a look. "Can't you meddle less?"
Jackie, stern-faced, replied, "This hurt the Melville name. You think I want in?"
Sandra sighed, "It's late. Let's go to bed. I believe Alex can handle this."
She pushed his wheelchair back to their room. Fiona sighed and went to her room too, worried about Katherine.
Katherine, back in her room, took off her coat and curled up on the bed, hugging a pillow.
Alex took off his suit jacket, draping it over the sofa. He loosened his tie and said, "Don't mind Grandpa; he doesn't have the final say anymore."
Katherine lazily opened her eyes. "He doesn't? Didn't you rush to marry because of him?"
Alex looked at her. "He was critically ill. If I didn't marry, he wouldn't go to surgery."
Katherine pouted, tapping his leg with her foot. "So, he could still use his life to make you get rid of me. You'd listen again!"
Alex grabbed her foot, pulling her closer. "You're my life now. Unless he disowns me, no one can drive you away."
Katherine was momentarily stunned, then scoffed. "Men's words!"
Alex pinched her nose. "And women's words? Why did you say you'd leave the Melville family?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Don't you think I can handle this?"
Alex looked into her eyes. "I believe in you, but things might not go as planned. Are you planning to leave me if they don't? How could you say that so easily?"
Katherine thought for a moment. "If things go south, I'll take you with me! Would you come?"
Alex was stunned, then chuckled. "Will you support me?"
Katherine nodded without thinking. "Sure, I will!"
Alex raised an eyebrow. "How?"
Katherine rolled her eyes. "You'll have enough to eat and wear. I'll take care of you!"
Alex laughed, rubbing her nose. "Silly girl, of course, I'll go with you. But you don't have to support me. Even if I leave the Melville family, I can find work to support you and the baby. As long as I'm with you, I'll do anything!"
Katherine was touched, almost swayed by his words. "Go take a shower!"
Alex's eyes sparkled. "Together?"
Katherine frowned. "Alex, there you go again!"
"Just kidding, I won't tease you tonight!" He pecked her on the corner of her mouth and went to the bathroom.
As he showered, Katherine sat up, leaned against the headboard, and checked her phone for updates.
