Chapter 551 Meddling in Other People's Business

Katherine was kinda ticked off that Jonathan snagged her food without even asking, but by the time she thought about stopping him, it was too late.

After mulling it over, she figured she hadn't eaten much anyway. Since he was into it, she decided to let it slide.

Once he finished, Jonathan was all like, "Brenda, I never knew church grub could be this good! If I get the chance, can I swing by here more often for meals?"

Brenda, trying to be all nice, nodded, "Sure thing, but the Temple of Compassion is pretty basic. You might find it kinda meh."

Jonathan glanced around at the old, worn-out place, "Yeah, it's pretty simple! A holy spot like this should be spruced up to make it more comfy."

Brenda sighed dramatically, "We'd love to fix it up, but there aren't many folks around here. The Temple of Compassion barely makes enough to feed us. We can't afford any renovations."

Jonathan sighed, feeling bad, "I get it. Must be rough. How about I—"

Katherine, knowing where this was headed, cut him off and asked Brenda, "Brenda, didn't I send a bunch of money to the Temple of Compassion before? Didn't you say you were using that cash to fix up the temple?"

Brenda, who had been eyeing Jonathan eagerly, blinked and forced a smile, "Katherine, the money you sent was used to renovate the main hall. Celine donated the rest, so there's nothing left for our living quarters."

Katherine squinted. She'd just seen the main hall, and it didn't look like it had a major makeover, just a new coat of paint, which wouldn't have cost much.

She'd sent a good chunk of change over the years, and it was unlikely Celine had donated all of it.

More likely, only a bit was donated, and the rest got split among Brenda and the others.

Now, Brenda was playing the victim card in front of her and Jonathan, clearly fishing for another donation.

It wasn't that Katherine didn't want to donate, but the money she'd given hadn't made much difference in the church.

She'd noticed the nuns at the Temple of Compassion were pretty worldly.

Since the old pastor passed away, Brenda had been running the show, and a lot had changed.

So, Katherine was super reluctant to get played by them.

But Jonathan didn't seem to care and said with a grin, "Don't worry, Brenda. When I get back, I'll set up a donation to fix up the Temple of Compassion. I'll also spread the word so more people know about it."

Brenda was thrilled, "Thank you so much!"

Hearing Jonathan's words, Katherine frowned.

Jonathan seemed to want to stick his nose in everything!

Since it was his cash, Katherine couldn't really stop him. She just got up, said goodbye to Brenda, and bounced.

She thought about saying goodbye to Celine but didn't want to mess with her meditation. After mulling it over, Katherine decided to peace out from the Temple of Compassion.

As she walked out, she spotted Leander by the car, chatting on the phone. He was all respectful, "Yes, Mr. Melville! Got it. I'll make sure to keep Mrs. Melville safe!"

Katherine's brow furrowed. Looked like Leander was reporting all her moves to Alex!

But Alex still hadn't called or texted her.

It was hard not to overthink.

Plus, Alex used to be super jealous, but now he didn't even call to grill her about hanging with Jonathan.

Maybe this was what they called true indifference, like he was losing interest in her?

Now, Alex had Leander watching over her, probably just for the sake of the baby she was carrying, nothing more!

Katherine didn't say a word and got into the car.

Jonathan quickly followed and hopped in with her. "Katherine, why didn't you wait for me?"

Katherine shot him a cold look. "Why should I wait for you? You were busy stuffing your face and didn't come out, and now you're blaming me for not waiting?"

Jonathan looked a bit hurt, "I was talking to Brenda about the donation and getting her account number! How was I supposed to know you'd leave without waiting?"

Katherine frowned in disdain, "Why are you so hell-bent on donating to the Temple of Compassion? Got money to burn?"

Jonathan looked all innocent, "Is it wrong to donate? I saw the nuns struggling and wanted to help. It's a good deed!"

Katherine snorted, "Do you really think the money you give Brenda will go to fixing up the Temple of Compassion? I've donated a ton over the years, and I haven't seen any changes!"

Jonathan was a bit taken aback, "You think Brenda might be pocketing the money?"

Katherine sneered, "I didn't say that! If you want to donate, go ahead. It's got nothing to do with me!"

Jonathan shrugged, "Alright then! I'll donate a little less. After all, this place raised you, and I should show some gratitude. Even if the money ends up with Brenda, it's a way to repay her for taking care of you all those years."

Katherine frowned deeply and glared at Jonathan with disdain, "What does this place raising me have to do with you? Jonathan, don't you think you're sticking your nose in too much?"

Jonathan nonchalantly spread his hands, "Really? If that's how you feel, I can't do anything about it."

Katherine rolled her eyes, "If that's what you think, I suggest you don't donate at all! Brenda never took care of me, and I owe her nothing! The only person who's been kind to me is Celine! Mr. Mostow, save your money for your wedding!"
