Chapter 637 What Does He Take Me For?
Alex leaned back, arms crossed, and smirked. "We both know if that kid's mine or not."
Katherine adjusted her robe, flashing a teasing grin. "Oh, Mr. Melville, feeling a bit too sure of yourself, huh? Do you really think you know everything? How do you know I didn't sleep with someone else?"
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Would you really sacrifice your pride just to be rid of me?"
Katherine stayed quiet.
Alex sneered, "I'm not here to bug you. But until my kid's born, you better keep your hands off other guys."
Katherine's face twisted in annoyance. "Who I sleep with is none of your business."
Alex glared. "Then, let's see how far that gets you!"
Katherine eyed him suspiciously. "What are you planning?"
Alex said, "First off, fix yourself up! You can't go out looking like that!"
"None of your damn business!" Katherine snapped, embarrassed and pissed.
Alex didn't say another word; just turned and walked out.
Jonathan had been knocking outside. When the door swung open, he froze for a second, then tried to rush in, but Alex blocked him with an arm.
"She's changing. What do you want?" Alex's words made Jonathan pause, and then he peeked inside. Seeing Katherine was okay, he relaxed.
Jonathan shut the door. "Alex, I know you and Katherine had a thing, but she doesn't want you anymore. Respect her choice."
Alex stared him down. "And who are you to tell me this?"
Jonathan hesitated, then smirked. "Her new guy, is that good enough?"
"Nope." Alex's voice was cold and final. "Stay away from her. I'll let it slide that you helped her run before."
Jonathan was taken aback. "Alex, are we really ending our friendship over this?"
Alex, towering over Jonathan, looked down with an intimidating presence. "You ended it when you helped her escape. You knew what would happen."
With that, Alex turned away. After a few steps, he glanced back, eyes threatening. "Still here? Planning to camp out?"
Jonathan shrugged. "It's morning."
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Then why aren't you gone?"
Jonathan clenched his jaw and then knocked on Katherine's door. "Kat, I'm out. Catch you later."
No response. Jonathan followed Alex out.
When Katherine finally came out, the hallway was empty. She opened the front door just in time to see the elevator doors closing.
Inside the elevator, Alex and Jonathan stood side by side. Jonathan flashed a smile at Katherine, while Alex's eyes were bloodshot, staring right at her.
Katherine couldn't quite read Alex's look, but he seemed worn out, and for a split second, she felt a pang of sympathy. Then she shook it off, thinking she must be losing it.
The elevator doors shut, and then it reached the first floor.. Katherine snapped back to reality, took a deep breath, and was about to close her door.
Suddenly, another figure blocked her way.
"Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville brought you some soup." Leander stood there with a thermos, probably waiting outside the whole time.
Katherine's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly brushed it off. The soup was for the baby, not her.
She coldly pushed Leander away. "Thanks, but no thanks."
Leander, looking desperate, blocked the door again. "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville made this himself this morning!"
Katherine, frustrated, snapped, "Just because he made it, I have to drink it?"
Leander pleaded, "Mrs. Melville, he checked all the nutritional recipes to make this for you. It's his way of showing he cares. Even if you don't drink it, at least open it and see. I've never seen him cook before."
Katherine hesitated but knew Leander wouldn't budge unless she took the soup.
After a moment, she grabbed the thermos. "Fine, I'll take it."
Leander smiled.
Katherine glared at him. "Aren't you leaving?"
Leander shook his head. "Mr. Melville asked me to stay and protect you."
Katherine saw it as surveillance. "I'm safe at home. You can go now."
Leander looked troubled. "I can't leave. Mr. Melville will punish me if I do."
Katherine was fuming. "What's his deal?"
Leander explained, "Mrs. Melville, he's worried about you. Since you won't go back with him, he sent me to look after you."
Katherine figured Alex was just afraid she'd run off. Unable to get rid of Leander, she decided to ignore him and walked back inside with the thermos.
Leander took this as a green light to enter, closing the door behind him. He stood by the entrance, not moving an inch.
Katherine saw him but didn't care. She casually placed the thermos on the table and headed back to her room.
She thought, 'This is getting out of hand. What's Alex's game? Does he really want to keep me as a mistress? What does he take me for?'
Meanwhile, Frank took Teresa to a super romantic restaurant. In the middle of the day, they closed the doors and set up a candlelit dinner vibe.
