Chapter 604 Ribbon Cutting

Sunny was totally flattered. "Ambrosia, you for real?"

After their first time hooking up, even though he had a million thoughts running through his head, he still respected Ambrosia's boundaries. If she wasn't down, he wasn't gonna push it.

Honestly, they only did it once, and after that, it was always him bugging Ambrosia for more.

Ambrosia tugged at his shirt collar with a sly grin. "I'm dead serious. Buckle up, and I'll take you to my place."

Sunny's throat bobbed nervously, and like a kid about to get a treat, he quickly sat up straight and fastened his seatbelt.

Seeing him like that, Ambrosia couldn't help but smile and think, 'Life's too short, gotta enjoy it while I can. Who knows, one day Sunny might wake up and find a girl who's a better fit for him.'

Meanwhile, Alex was chilling against the wall in the restaurant's stairwell, puffing on a cigarette, looking all deep in thought.

Sophia found him pretty easily, pushed the door open, and walked in. "What's up, Alex? Smoking away your troubles alone?"

Alex glanced at her, blowing out a cloud of smoke. "If you got nothing else, just go on without me."

Sophia shook her head. "But I didn't drive!"

"Leander's outside. He'll give you a ride."

"I wanna go with you!"

Alex's face stayed blank as he said, "I'm heading back to the office later. No time to hang out."

Sophia didn't seem to care. "I can go back to the office with you. The company's moving to a new building soon. I can help you pack. Got nothing better to do anyway."

Alex said, "The secretary's got that covered. The office isn't a place for you to just hang around."

Sophia frowned. "Alex, are you blowing me off again? Remember our deal?"

Alex looked a bit resigned and said, "Do whatever you want."

Sophia laughed. "I knew you couldn't leave me behind!"

Two days later, the Melville Group moved to its new digs, and a bunch of media folks showed up early, all hoping to get the scoop.

They thought, 'With the Melville Group moving, Mr. Melville himself will definitely be at the ribbon-cutting. Since there's no public photo of him online, snapping his pic would be a major score, front-page material!'

The ceremony kicked off quickly, with a pro host running the show. After some opening remarks, the host started introducing the guests one by one.

The first few were partners and big shareholders of the Melville Group. The reporters took some pics but weren't too interested, all waiting eagerly for Alex to show up.

Alex was still a no-show, but the host introduced another big guest, the designer of the new Melville Group building, Moon.

Moon was a big name in the architecture world and, like Alex, had no public photos, just a name. Rumor had it that Moon was a young, hot, and rich woman!

If they couldn't get a pic of Alex today, snapping one of Moon would still be a win. The reporters waited eagerly for Moon to appear but were super let down.

Moon did come on stage, but she wasn't the rumored young, hot, and rich woman. Instead, she was a kinda chubby lady dressed plainly, wearing a hat and mask, which totally killed the reporters' desire to take photos.

Katherine, all geared up, strutted onto the stage, trying to look just a bit chubby instead of obviously pregnant.

She was super nervous before coming, but Jonathan had gotten word that Alex might skip the ribbon-cutting, which was a huge relief. As long as she didn't have to face Alex, she could keep her cool.

After introducing all the ribbon-cutting guests, the host waited a bit, scanning the crowd like he was looking for someone.

Then a staff member rushed onto the stage and whispered something in his ear. The host nodded and told the reporters that the president of the Melville Group couldn't make it due to other commitments, so no need to wait around.

The reporters were bummed, but they still had to snap the necessary pics.

Hearing the host's announcement, which matched what Jonathan had told her, Katherine felt a wave of relief and got ready for the ribbon-cutting.

The Melville Group's ribbon-cutting ceremony was super fancy. After cutting the ribbon with the other guests, Katherine used the chaos to slip off the stage.

With her job done, she just had to wait for the car Jonathan had arranged to pick her up.

She had wanted to use this chance to meet up with Frank and Ambrosia, but Ambrosia had texted her yesterday, saying Alex was getting suspicious again. So, for safety's sake, she decided to skip it.

The car Jonathan sent was stuck in traffic, and the driver called to tell her to find a place to chill for a bit.

Katherine definitely needed to sit down somewhere quiet. Being eight months pregnant, standing for too long was killer on her back.

She looked up at the new Melville Group Tower she had designed, thinking that since Alex wasn't coming today, she might as well go inside, check it out, and find a quiet spot to rest. So, she slowly walked into it.

She had designed the building, but Alex had hired someone else for the interior. It was simple yet classy, with a cold vibe that reminded her of Alex.

'Cold? Alex isn't cold at all; it's all an act,' she thought.

Since she was already there, Katherine wanted to go upstairs and take a look. When designing the building, she had put a lot of thought into the floor where the president's office was.

Back then, she still had a good impression of Alex and had put a lot of effort into designing the view and layout of his office.

Even though it was moving day, the important departments hadn't officially moved in yet to avoid disrupting work, so the building was mostly empty, with just a few cleaners tidying up.

Seeing that there weren't many people around, Katherine took the elevator upstairs.

There weren't many people upstairs either. A few junior employees saw her and asked who she was and what she was doing. She showed them the temporary badge given to her by the staff downstairs during the ribbon-cutting, explaining that she was the building's designer.

After seeing the badge, the employees didn't doubt her and were super polite, saying she could look around as much as she wanted.
