Chapter 406 Becoming a Tutor
Alice tried to help her daughter brainstorm. "Scarlett, do you have a photo of Katherine? Let me see her."
Scarlett's eyes flashed with jealousy as she thought of Katherine's beauty. "Mom, I hate her. Why would I keep her photo? But yeah, she's beautiful, like a painting. I don't even know if she's had plastic surgery!"
Alice stayed calm. "A girl who catches Alex's eye must be pretty. Right now, Alex is really into Katherine. Don't cause trouble for her, or Alex might start disliking you."
Scarlett frowned. "Mom! Are you saying I should just do nothing? I like Alex and won't marry anyone else. Only someone like Alex, with his status and looks, is good enough for me. I won't give up!"
Alice gently advised, "Scarlett, calm down! Why are you losing it?"
Scarlett snapped back, "It's because of Katherine! She took the man I've been after for years! And you want me to stay calm? How can I?"
Alice said, "I'm just asking you to calm down, not give up! Now isn't the best time to split Alex and Katherine up. From my experience, men's interest in a woman fades quickly. Once the novelty wears off, they'll break up naturally.“
”So, we should focus on the child Katherine's carrying. We need to ensure she can't have kids again to prevent future issues."
Scarlett knew she had to deal with Katherine's pregnancy. She had tried before but failed.
"Mom! Last time, I had Bernard arrange for Billy to take Katherine to the hospital for an abortion. I even bribed the surgeon to remove her uterus to prevent future issues. But just as she entered the operating room, Alex showed up and took her away, ruining everything! After that, Bernard never mentioned it again."
Alice furrowed her brows. "Scarlett, don't worry. I'll come up with a good plan to deal with the child. Give me some time. Now, go back to your room and dress up nicely. We're having dinner with Vincent's savior tonight. Be gracious and sweet!“
"You know, I don't have much say with your grandparents. You need to win them over! Edwin is just a bystander now; the family power was handed over to your brother years ago, and your brother doesn't listen to him. So, besides your brother, only your grandparents have any influence in the family. To stand firm in the Mitchell family, we need to please them!"
Scarlett nodded. "Got it, Mom. I've always been trying to win over the grandparents!"
Alice patted her daughter's shoulder. "Good girl! Go and dress up nicely!"
Scarlett still looked a bit down but left after listening to her mom.
Alice squinted. How capable was Katherine? She needed to meet this vixen. Competing with her daughter for a man? Ridiculous!
Meanwhile, Katherine returned to Sunny's room.
She picked up Sunny's homework. "Not bad! Keep going and hand it all to me when you're done."
Sunny frowned, defiant. "Katherine, I showed you this problem to prove I can do it, not to let you check all my homework. Know your place!"
Katherine crossed her arms and smiled. "I know my place. You need to hand over your homework to me now."
"Need to?" Sunny rolled his eyes. "Who do you think you are?"
"Sunny, I might not have had the authority before, but now it's different. I'm officially your tutor. Checking your homework is my job."
"What? Tutor? Who agreed to that?"
Katherine replied, "Mrs. Alice Mitchell. She just hired me as your tutor. From now on, your academic issues are my responsibility."
Sunny looked puzzled. "Katherine, what are you up to? Why didn't you tell my mom earlier you weren't my tutor, and now you agree? What's your real motive?"
Katherine stayed calm. "No real motive. Your mom offered a high price, and I couldn't resist."
Sunny glared. "Don't give me that! You're with Alex now; you can't be short of money. You must have some ulterior motive! Are you planning to use this to harm Scarlett?"
Katherine laughed. "Why would I harm her? She poses no threat to me."
Sunny was stunned, seeing the disdain in Katherine's demeanor. She didn't take Scarlett seriously at all.
Katherine was right; Scarlett posed no threat because Alex only felt gratitude, not love, for her.
Sunny felt indignant for Scarlett but couldn't argue against the facts.
Seeing Sunny's frustrated expression, Katherine thought he was different from his mother and Scarlett. He was simple-minded, even a bit foolish, but had a good heart.
She had overheard Sunny defending Bernard earlier and felt that despite Alice and Scarlett's influence, he still had a good moral compass.
Katherine agreed to tutor Sunny to understand Alice better. She could have just gone through the motions, but she felt an inexplicable attraction to this half-brother. She genuinely wanted him to succeed.
So, she decided to take his studies seriously, at least helping him get into college, become more independent, and not be led astray by Alice and Scarlett.
"Ms. Galatea, so you are here!" Finn's voice suddenly came in.
