Chapter 985 It Won't Happen Again

Sitting down on the couch, Christina rubbed her head and closed her eyes, intending to rest for a bit when her phone suddenly chimed with a message.

She thought it was Bernard replying, so she slowly opened her eyes and picked up her phone.

[Christina, are you resting?]

The message wasn't from Bernard; it was from Ruben.

Christina replied with mixed feelings, [Yes, I'm about to rest. Thank you for bringing me back today.]

[You're welcome. Let's keep in touch. If you need any help, feel free to contact me.]

Christina stared at her phone for a moment, then sent Ruben a polite emoji before turning off her phone and placing it beside her.

She wasn't naive; she could sense that Ruben's attitude towards her during their meeting wasn't just about catching up with an old classmate. But regardless of the reason, she couldn't respond to it in any way.

At that moment, she heard the sound of a car pulling up outside. Christina got up and walked to the balcony.

Sure enough, Bernard was back. She wondered if he had seen her message.

Hellen was probably still waiting for him in the living room. She wondered what Hellen would ask him later.

Afraid that Bernard might slip up, Christina thought about going downstairs. She hesitated with her hand on the doorknob, then decided to wait and see.

Bernard, who hadn't had a moment to rest all day, looked slightly tired as he entered the house, changed his shoes, and headed upstairs.

"Bernard." Hellen heard the noise and got up from the sofa to call him, "Why are you back so late?"

"There was something urgent at the office. Grandma, why are you still up so late?" Bernard stopped and turned to look at Hellen.

As Hellen approached him, she immediately smelled a woman's perfume.

This kind of perfume was clearly not from Christina, who never used perfume.

"Come to the study with me. I have something to say to you."

Hellen's face darkened as she walked past him towards the study.

Bernard frowned slightly, squinting his eyes in thought, then followed Hellen into the study.

"Sit down." Hellen's expression was very serious. "Bernard, Christina is a good girl."

Hearing Christina's name, Bernard raised an eyebrow. "Why are you suddenly saying this, Grandma?"

Bernard was quite surprised. What had Christina done to earn such high praise from Hellen?

"Where did you go after taking Christina to the banquet today?" Hellen asked directly since he didn't seem inclined to explain.

Mentioning the banquet, Bernard thought for a moment. "There was something at the office, so I went there. Why are you concerned about this, Grandma?"

"I usually don't interfere in your affairs, but now that you're married, Christina is your wife, and I have to speak up for her." Hellen rarely spoke to Bernard with such a serious expression. "Do you know how she got home today?"

Bernard was puzzled as to why Hellen was asking this. "Wasn't Christina brought back by Billy?"

Hellen snorted in disappointment. "Are you trying to fool me? She got a ride from another man, and a servant happened to see it and told me! How can you call yourself Christina's husband and let her get a ride from someone else?"

Bernard's expression darkened. Did Christina not call Billy? Then whose car did she take?

Could it have been Ruben?

Thinking of this, Bernard's expression turned cold. Christina really didn't take his words seriously and dared to interact with Ruben privately!

"Bernard, since you married Christina, you can't mistreat her! From now on, you must not let anyone else bring her back. She is your wife, and you must take responsibility for her."

Bernard didn't show any displeasure in front of Hellen. He nodded and agreed, "Don't worry, Grandma. Today was an accident. It won't happen again."

"Also," Hellen took out a booklet from the drawer, "since you and Christina are married, the Mitchell family can't treat her unfairly. You still need to have a wedding.

I've consulted some wedding planning companies, and this is the information they gave me. When you have time, look through it with Christina and see what style she likes."

Bernard looked at the booklet in front of him but didn't reach for it. "Grandma, we don't plan to have a wedding for now. She doesn't like that kind of formality. Just getting the marriage certificate is enough."

"How can you not have a wedding? Christina chose to marry you, and you can't even give her a proper ceremony? When she says she doesn't need it, she's just being polite. Do you really believe that? What woman doesn't dream of wearing a wedding dress and having a wedding?"

Bernard had brought Christina home mainly to appease his grandparents. He didn't want to make it widely known, as it wouldn't be good for either of them when they separated in a year.

But seeing how insistent Hellen was, he couldn't find a reason to refuse. So he took the booklets and stood up. "You're right, Grandma. I'll discuss it with Christina."

Hellen was satisfied with this. "Go rest. Show Christina the booklets before she sleeps and see what style she likes."

After leaving the study, Hellen went to her room with the help of a servant.

Bernard watched Hellen go to her room, then turned and went to his own room.

Opening the door, Bernard saw Christina lying on the bed, already asleep.

Bernard walked over and, without any gentleness, woke her up. "Wake up!"

Christina wasn't actually asleep; she was just resting and didn't want to face Bernard. They had nothing to say to each other anyway!

But Bernard woke her up, which was really annoying!

Standing by the bed, Bernard looked down at her coldly. "Christina, I underestimated you. You actually dared to complain to Grandma!"

"Complain? When did I complain?" Christina didn't quite understand but thought for a moment and guessed some of the situation. "I didn't complain. Grandma saw Ruben bringing me back and asked where you were. I just told her you went to the office. I didn't mention anything else."

Feeling wronged, Christina looked up at Bernard. "Didn't you see the message I sent you?"

"What message?" Bernard paused, then took out his phone and saw Christina's message.

Seeing the unread message, Bernard's suspicion of Christina lessened a bit.

But he quickly remembered that Christina had gotten a ride from Ruben. His face turned cold again. "Why didn't you call Billy but let another man bring you back?"
