Chapter 937 Missing Again!
Claire didn't know what to say, she could only look at Nora with a heartache, grateful for her generosity and understanding.
Outside the ward, Katherine and Alex overheard the conversation inside through the slightly open door and exchanged thoughtful glances.
They had developed a certain trust and admiration for Nora's character.
It was no wonder that Nora had become good friends with Claire; Nora was truly a woman who could distinguish right from wrong.
Suddenly, Katherine's phone, which was on silent mode, vibrated in her pocket. She took it out and saw that it was Sandra calling!
She showed the phone to Alex, who glanced at it and said calmly, "Go ahead, answer it."
Sandra probably called because she was worried that they hadn't returned home so late and wanted to know where they were.
Katherine answered the call and was about to tell Sandra that they wouldn't be coming home to sleep tonight, but before she could speak, Sandra's anxious voice came through, "Katherine, where are you and Alex? Come back quickly! Something... something happened!"
Upon hearing this, Katherine and Alex both frowned. Katherine asked, "What happened?"
Sandra's voice was a bit breathless, "Charles... Charles was just taken away by a strange man! I've already sent people to chase after him, but you need to come back quickly! The people I sent out haven't reported back yet, and Jackie and I don't know what to do."
Charles was taken away! How could this happen? Katherine stood up abruptly and rushed towards the elevator. Upon hearing that Charles might be lost, she couldn't think of anything else but to find him as quickly as possible!
Alex was equally anxious about Charles and quickly followed her, trying to calm her down, "Stay calm, we'll head back right now!"
Katherine's palms were already sweating. 'Charles has to be okay! He just has to be. Is fate playing a cruel joke on me? Can't I catch a break? I've just found Alex, and after only a few days of peace, now Charles is in trouble!'
Alex drove the car at breakneck speed and they arrived at the Melville Manor in half an hour!
As they got out of the car and ran towards the house, they bumped into Fiona, who had just returned from outside.
"Alex, Katherine, did you just get home too? Have you found Charles?"
Katherine didn't have time to answer her and rushed into the house.
Sandra and Jackie were anxiously waiting for news in the living room. Julian, George, and Edith were also in the living room, surrounded by five servants who were watching over them to prevent them from running around.
"Grandma, have you found Charles?" Katherine's eyes were bloodshot with anxiety.
Sandra wiped her tears sorrowfully, "Katherine, I'm sorry, I didn't take good care of Charles. The people I sent to chase after him just came back and said they couldn't catch up. The man who took Charles quickly got into a van without a license plate at the intersection. The van sped down a small road, and they lost sight of it!"
Hearing this, Katherine felt a wave of dizziness, but Alex was there to catch her in time!
Fiona also ran in and, seeing only Julian, George, and Edith in the living room and noticing everyone's reactions, she understood the situation. "Grandma, what happened? How could Charles be taken away while he was at home? Did you take them out?"
Sandra choked up as she explained, "No, no, I didn't take them out! After dinner, Jackie and I were sitting in the yard with the four children when a vendor selling glowing balloons passed by outside.
The children saw the glowing balloons and liked them, insisting they wanted one! Jackie and I went to buy them, but the kids insisted on going to pick one themselves. When Anton was paying, the balloon vendor suddenly dropped all the balloons and ran off with Charles in his arms!"
The balloon vendor again! Katherine remembered that she had noticed a balloon vendor frequently appearing around her and the children recently and her eyes darkened.
She had specifically warned Fiona and the household staff to be cautious of the balloon vendor and not to let the children buy balloons, but she had forgotten to remind Sandra, Jackie, and the butler!
This was because Sandra, Jackie, and Anton usually didn't take care of the children alone.
Everyone was excited about Alex's return, and they had let their guard down!
It seemed that the balloon vendor had targeted Charles from the beginning! But why? What was his connection to Charles?
Fiona also seemed to realize and regret, "The balloon vendor! Katherine had warned me to be cautious of the balloon vendor, but Grandma and Grandpa didn't know! I shouldn't have gone out on a date this afternoon. What do we do?"
After steadying Katherine, Alex asked calmly, "Did you call the police?"
Fiona quickly followed up, "Yes, did you call the police?"
Mentioning the police made Sandra cry even harder, choking up to the point where she couldn't speak.
Jackie, who was slightly calmer, sighed and answered, "We were about to call the police, but then the house phone rang with a strange number. They warned us not to call the police, or we would never see Charles again!"
A threat!
It was really a kidnapping!
Katherine suddenly realized and asked urgently, "How much money do they want?"
No matter how much, as long as it was a problem money could solve, it wasn't a problem!
Jackie found this to be the most troubling issue, "They didn't ask for money. They just warned us not to call the police and then hung up. When we tried to call back, the number was already disconnected!"
The glimmer of hope Katherine had felt drained away, and Alex supported her as he instructed the household, "Take care of the elderly and the children!"
Then he helped Katherine upstairs.
Fiona took a few steps forward, "Alex, what are you going to do now? Shouldn't we call the police?"
Alex gave Katherine a calm look, "Just take care of the kids. Don't get involved in anything else!"
Fiona, though anxious, was afraid of causing more trouble and could only nod, "Okay."
Alex didn't take Katherine to the bedroom; they went to the study and turned on the computer.
