Chapter 698 Separation Anxiety

Alex who got ditched by his parents had it way worse than she did when she was little!

The difference was, that when her mom left, she took her along, even though she eventually had to stay with the Galatea family for foster care.

So, in her fuzzy childhood memories, the one thing she was sure of was that her mom loved her a lot. Even if her mom wasn't around, that belief made her feel like she wasn't missing out on a mom's love.

But Alex probably couldn't help but think his parents just dumped him and didn't care at all. That must've really hurt him as a kid.

Even so, Alex grew up under the intense pressure of the Melville family. His personality didn't get all messed up; instead, he developed this cold and distant vibe, making him seem unapproachable. But deep down, he was still kind and gentle.

That was pretty rare!

Thinking about this, Katherine couldn't help but soften, "Alex."

Alex was peeling shrimp for her. "Yeah?"

She said, "Give me an address!"

Alex raised an eyebrow, a bit confused. "What address?"

She pouted, "Sophia's address! In case you don't come back in three days, at least I know where to find you!"

Alex's expression froze for a moment, then he smiled slightly. "Are you that worried I won't come back?"

Katherine frowned. "Just give me the address!"

Alex fed her the peeled shrimp, saying, "I promised to come back and be with you in the delivery room, and I will."

"I don't care, you still need to give me the address!"

"Alright, I'll send it to your phone later."

Katherine pouted, "That's more like it!" Katherine ate the shrimp Alex fed her, then raised her pinky finger, "Alex, when you come back, let's be good to each other. But you can't lie to me or hide things from me anymore!"

Alex looked at her small hand for a moment, then hooked his rough hand around her soft one. "Okay, I won't, and I don't dare to. From now on, I'll listen to you, and we'll be good to each other."

Katherine felt inexplicably sad, holding Alex's warm hand, reluctant to see him go.

Maybe it was because her due date was approaching, and her hormones were all over the place.

After a while, Bernard and Sunny came back, and the four of them chatted about other stuff, finished their meal, and went to the airport to see Alex off.

Before boarding, Alex gently pinched Katherine's cheek, "Alright, go back with Bernard and have a good rest. I'll call you as soon as I land."

Katherine nodded, watching Alex and his subordinate Leander walk into the VIP lounge.

She stood there for a long time, even after Alex was out of sight, lost in thought.

Bernard gently ruffled Katherine's hair, reminding her, "Alright, we should go home now."

Katherine felt a tightness in her chest and frowned slightly, "I don't know why, but I feel uneasy."

Bernard understood Katherine's feelings and comforted her. "Don't worry, Brent may be tough, but Alex is no ordinary guy. He'll be fine."

Katherine suddenly grabbed Bernard's shirt, looking anxious. "Bernard, send someone to get my passport right away. I need to buy a ticket for the next flight to Markovia!"

Bernard was taken aback, then his expression turned serious. "Katherine, don't be ridiculous. In your condition, you shouldn't go anywhere. Stay home and have the baby safely; that's the most important thing. Don't worry, I'll have people in Markovia keep tabs on Alex. If he needs help, I won't just sit around."

This was probably a case of loving someone because of someone else. Even if the guy Katherine liked wasn't Bernard's favorite, he had to look out for Alex for Katherine's sake.

Katherine looked at a plane taking off outside the airport window, feeling a heavy weight in her chest. Maybe it was because every time Alex went abroad, misunderstandings would arise, leading to their separation.

Now that they had cleared things up, there would be no more misunderstandings. No matter what happened, she wouldn't overthink it and would ask Alex directly.

She was just really worried about him. Even though they had only just reunited, she was already feeling separation anxiety.

Bernard, feeling sorry for Katherine, gently pulled her into his arms, patting her back to ease her anxiety. "Alex should be capable of handling things. If he still needs his pregnant wife to follow him around, what good is he? Katherine, don't spoil men too much!"

Katherine was still anxious. "But he..."

Bernard intentionally changed the subject, "By the way, Alex entrusted us with something before he left."

Katherine looked up. "What is it?"

Bernard nodded towards a direction.

Katherine turned her head and saw Billy bringing Charles over. He had just gone to the Melville mansion to pick up Charles on Bernard's orders.

Charles was initially a bit timid, but as soon as he saw Katherine, his eyes lit up. He ran over and hugged Katherine's leg like spotting a familiar face in a bustling crowd, "Kate!"

Katherine was a bit surprised and looked down at him. "Charles."

The kid had grown taller, walked more steadily, and spoke more clearly!

Charles hugged Katherine tightly, his eyes red, "Kate, you're back... Charles thought you didn't want me anymore."

Katherine felt a bit guilty looking at Charles and gently patted his head, saying, "Yes, I'm back."

Charles had a simple mind and didn't hold any grudges for the previous separation, only joy at the reunion. "Kate! Dad is on a business trip. He said I should stay with you and wait for him to come back so we can welcome the baby girl's birth together!"

Baby girl?

Katherine smirked. How did he know it would be a girl?

She turned to Bernard, "Is this what he entrusted you with?"

Bernard nodded, "Yes! Charles misses you a lot and Alex asked us to take care of him for three days."

It was actually to distract Katherine. She might have a bit of prenatal syndrome and was also worried about Alex.

Katherine's attention indeed shifted to Charles. She took his hand, saying, "Let's go home!"

Charles obediently nodded. "Yes! Charles will follow Kate!"

Seeing Katherine seemingly forget her anxiety about Alex's departure and lovingly leading Charles out, Bernard also breathed a sigh of relief.

He followed Katherine slowly, noticing someone was missing. His brow furrowed as he asked Billy, "Where's Sunny?"
