Chapter 152 Katherine, I Want Your Heart!
In the quiet hospital corridor, Katherine strode purposefully towards her room, quickly passing the nurse's station.
Alex followed closely behind her.
A few young nurses whispered excitedly, "That man! That's the man! That's Scarlett's boyfriend!"
A second nurse exclaimed, "Oh my God, he's so handsome!"
A third nurse questioned, "But why isn't he in room 302 with Scarlett? Why is he chasing after another girl here?"
Someone else remarked, "Could it be some kind of tacky love triangle?"
Katherine heard the nurses gossiping and frowned, quickening her pace in annoyance.
Back in her room, she turned to close and lock the door!
Alex's hand shot in, pushing against the door frame to keep it open. "What are you doing?" he asked.
Katherine tried to shut the door with all her might, saying, "Alex, you don't need to come in."
Alex, with a stern face, asked, "Give me a reason."
Katherine nodded and said, "Fine, move your hand, and I'll tell you!"
As soon as Alex moved his hand, Katherine slammed the door shut and locked it!
Alex's forehead veins bulged as he tried to keep him cool. He knocked on the door. "Don't do this. Open the door and let me in!"
There was no response from inside; Katherine was ignoring him.
Alex frowned and said, "Katherine, did you hear me? Open the door!"
Still no response.
He sighed, trying to be patient, and spoke gently, "Stop this. Please open the door, okay? What's going on? It would help if you let me know why. It's my fault. I came back late. I deserve to be punished! Katherine, Katherine Galatea."
"Mr. Melville." Leander's confused voice suddenly came from behind Alex.
Alex turned around with a dark expression, his eyes cold.
Leander, sensing the tension, quickly explained, "Mr. Melville, I got stuck in traffic. The meal you asked me to get for Mrs. Melville got cold, so I had to go back and get a fresh one. This one's still hot; you should let Mrs. Melville eat it while it's warm."
Alex wanted Katherine to eat while it was hot, but first, he needed to get inside.
Leander seemed to understand. "Mr. Melville, are you locked out?"
Alex's icy stare made Leander shiver, and he instinctively took a step back.
Leander then placed the food on a chair in the corridor and said, "Mr. Melville, the food is here. You and Mrs. Melville should eat it while it's hot. I'll take my leave now."
Leander quickly left.
Alex, tired, rubbed his temples and sat on a chair in the corridor. He took out his phone and messaged Katherine: [Ten years ago, Scarlett saved my life. Because of that, she hurt herself and became frail and sickly. So, I can't be ungrateful and ignore her.]
Inside the room, Katherine, standing by the window, saw the message and replied: [Yes, she saved your life. It would help if you were with your savior, not worrying about me.]
Alex messaged: [Open the door first.]
Katherine responded: [I'm going to sleep, Alex. Be with your savior!]
Alex texted again: [Open the door and let me talk to you.]
Katherine didn't reply.
After waiting a minute with no response, Alex, resisting the urge to crush his phone, sent another message: [Leander just brought some fried chicken.]
Three seconds later, the door clicked open.
Alex, with a stern face, picked up the food Leander had brought and entered Katherine's room.
Katherine opened the food container and saw oatmeal porridge. She frowned in displeasure and looked at Alex. "Where's my fried chicken?"
Alex, standing by the window, looked completely unashamed and said calmly, "You're having a severe allergic reaction. You can't eat greasy or spicy food; you need to follow the doctor's orders."
"Liar!" Katherine huffed. Though unhappy, she still ate the oatmeal porridge because she was hungry.
Alex walked over and sat beside her, watching her eat in silence.
When Katherine put down her spoon, he finally spoke, "Are you full? I have something to tell you."
Katherine interrupted, "Alex, you don't need to tell me your business. I don't want to know."
Alex frowned deeply. "Why didn't you let me in earlier?"
Katherine answered honestly, "I want to avoid suspicion. I don't want to get involved in your complicated relationship with Scarlett. I don't want to be judged or be seen as a home wrecker."
Alex understood what she meant but was even more displeased. "Katherine, have you ever asked me? You just assume things are the way you think they are?"
Katherine remained calm. "I don't want to ask, and Alex, you don't need to explain yourself to me so urgently. It's not like you. You'll make people think you like me or something."
Alex squinted his eyes and suddenly grabbed her chin, turning her face towards him. "There's no one else here. Who am I misleading?"
He took a tissue and gently wiped the food residue from her mouth. "Tell me, who am I misleading?"
Katherine frowned and pushed his hand away. "Yes, I would misunderstand! If you keep doing these ambiguous things, anyone would overthink!"
Alex grabbed her chin again, turning her face towards him, leaning in close. "What if it's not a misunderstanding? What if I do these things because I like you?"
Katherine was stunned. "Alex, don't joke like that. It's not... it's not funny!"
She was very opposed to people who easily said they liked someone! She thought, 'Alex had just made a public declaration to Scarlett yesterday, and now he says he likes me? Does he think I am a fool?'
Alex gazed into Katherine's beautiful eyes, which held a hint of resentment. "You're right. I'm becoming less and less like myself. In the past, I would never have believed that one day I would be so emotionally affected by you."
'Who? Who's affecting his emotions?' Katherine felt this was an inexplicable accusation and wanted to argue. "Alex, you..."
He placed a cool finger on her lips. "Don't talk, just listen to me."
She fell silent, quietly looking at him.
Alex's eyes were very serious and deep. "I once said that I could give you everything except love. Because in my past life plans, there was no place for a woman. Your appearance changed my life plans. I'm not afraid of you laughing at me; you're the only woman I've ever been with. That night, it wasn't just because of the toxins; it was also because... I already had feelings for you."
Katherine's heart skipped a beat, her eyelashes fluttered, and she looked at him suspiciously. "Alex, are you messing with me?"
After saying all this, she still didn't believe him.
Alex frowned helplessly, almost amused. "Katherine, I haven't slept for two days. Don't make me angry. Let me have a peaceful sleep!"
He let go of her, leaned back on the sofa, and closed his eyes, looking utterly exhausted.
Seeing Alex's tired appearance, Katherine felt a tightness in her chest, a pang of sympathy.
She knew him well.
With his immense power, he could get anything he wanted with a snap of his fingers. He didn't need her sympathy.
Still, she got up and took a blanket from the hospital bed, covering him with it.
As she covered him, Katherine looked at his face, studying it carefully. She thought to herself, 'What a handsome face!'
She didn't feel like she lost out by sleeping with him.
She was looking so closely that Alex suddenly opened his eyes.
Katherine was startled and quickly stepped back. "Alex, you... you're not asleep yet?"
"Were you trying to steal a kiss?" he raised an eyebrow at her.
Katherine forced a smile. "In your dreams!"
Alex's eyes twinkled mischievously as he gently brushed her cheek. "Katherine, don't lock me out anymore."
Katherine felt puzzled. "Didn't I already let you in?"
"I mean, your heart," explained he.
After saying this, Alex closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
Katherine stood there, blinking, her heart in turmoil.
The next day, Katherine woke up in Alex's arms. Her head was resting on his arm, and she snuggled comfortably. Feeling a bit stiff, she opened her eyes in surprise.
Alex was calmly watching her; who knew how long he had been awake?
She said, "Uh... Alex... how did we..." end up sleeping together?
As she was feeling awkward, someone knocked on the door, breaking the embarrassing moment. Alex got up and went to open the door.
Scarlett stood there with a serene smile. "Alex, good morning!"
She held up a metallic thermos. "Alex, my mom made some soup for me. I can't finish it all by myself, so I thought I'd share it with Katherine."
Alex turned to Katherine. "Do you want some?"
Katherine shook her head. She was suspicious of Scarlett's character, and her allergies hadn't cleared up yet. It was best to avoid Scarlett's food if possible.
Alex turned back to Scarlett. "She's allergic and can't eat random things."
Scarlett smiled awkwardly, understanding, and nodded. "Yes, you're right. I didn't think it through."
At that moment, a doctor entered the room with two police officers. "Katherine, the police are here to see you."
Katherine's face froze, frowning. "The police are here to see me?"
One of the officers showed his badge. "Katherine, please come with us. You are suspected of being involved in an illegal case and need to cooperate with the investigation."
