Chapter 650 Still Need to Work Hard
Alex held onto her and whispered, "I never meant to lie to you. I totally spaced on the marriage registration, and it only hit me when I wanted to register ours. I was gonna tell you everything after I divorced Sophia. I was scared if I told you before, you'd be mad and ghost me. You're pregnant, and I didn't want to stress you out. I know it was messed up."
Katherine listened to Alex, staying quiet for a long time before saying, "You never thought I could understand you. Now, whether you and Sophia hooked up or not, I don't care anymore. There's no trust left between us."
As she spoke, she tried to pry Alex's hand off her and quickly got out of the car, which made her uneasy.
Jonathan came back with a bottle of water but didn't see Katherine. Worried, he searched around the banquet hall but still couldn't find her. Instead, he bumped into Sophia.
He walked over and pulled Sophia aside. "Have you seen Katherine?"
Sophia was taken aback. "Katherine? Wasn't she with you?"
Jonathan replied honestly, "I just went to get her some water, and when I came back, she was gone."
Sophia didn't really care about Katherine's whereabouts; she just suddenly remembered that Alex had also left.
Jonathan seemed to have thought of this, and asked, "What about Alex? Where is he now?"
Sophia said, "Alex just said he had something to do and left. I'll call him and ask if he saw Katherine."
Jonathan nodded. He also suspected that Alex had taken Katherine but wasn't in a position to make the call.
They went to a quiet spot. Sophia took out her phone and dialed Alex's number.
The phone rang for a long time without anyone answering. She felt something was off and dialed again. This time, it rang for a long time before it was picked up.
"What's up?" Alex's voice was low, tinged with impatience.
Sophia didn't know what was going on with him but asked cheerfully, "Alex, we can't find Katherine. Jonathan is looking for her. Did you see her when you left?"
"No." With that cold word, Alex hung up the phone.
Sophia shrugged helplessly at Jonathan. "Alex said he didn't see Katherine."
Jonathan narrowed his eyes, not buying Alex's story. Because from what he knew about Alex, even if Alex hadn't seen Katherine, he wouldn't be indifferent upon hearing that she was missing. Most likely, Katherine was with Alex.
"Sophia, the hotel should have surveillance cameras. As the host of the banquet, you should have the right to check them," Jonathan reminded Sophia.
Sophia thought for a moment before saying, "Alright, let's go check the surveillance footage to see if Katherine left early."
Jonathan nodded. "Okay, thank you!"
They went to the surveillance room and asked the security to pull up the footage. Then they saw Alex carrying Katherine out of the venue.
Sophia clenched her fists secretly. "Alex is really something. He clearly took Katherine but didn't tell us the truth, making us worry."
She was smiling as she spoke, but her smile had more pain than tears.
Jonathan wasn't doing much better. He really didn't want Alex having any private time with Katherine anymore, partly because of his feelings and partly because she couldn't handle any more stress right now. He was scared Alex would hurt her.
"Sophia, happy birthday and have fun! I'm outta here," Jonathan said quickly and bolted outside.
Sophia caught up with him. "Jonathan, you're going to find Alex and Katherine, right? Take me with you; I want to go too!"
Jonathan was taken aback. "But today is your birthday."
Sophia smiled nonchalantly. "A friend's safety is more important! There seems to be some misunderstanding between Alex and Katherine. I'm worried he might scare her. It's better if I go with you to help mediate!"
Jonathan felt that Sophia had some personal motives, but he couldn't care less now; he just wanted to find Katherine as soon as possible. "Alright. Let's go then."
Sophia hopped into Jonathan's car, and the two of them drove slowly in the direction Alex had left, keeping an eye on every car on the road, hoping to spot his ride.
They had not seen his car for a long time. Sophia was starting to lose hope, thinking they wouldn't find them today.
Then she made another discovery and looked curiously at Jonathan, who was still scanning the road. "Jonathan, be honest, do you have a thing for Katherine?"
Jonathan, who was fully focused on finding Alex's car, was taken aback by Sophia's question and looked at her. After a moment of silence, he smiled. "I like her a lot."
Sophia's smile grew even brighter. "I like honest men like you! I knew I wasn't wrong; the way you look at Katherine is different."
Jonathan smiled, looked ahead, and continued searching for Alex's car.
Sophia thought for a moment and then asked, "So, what's your plan now?"
Jonathan replied while driving, "What plan?"
"I mean, what are you planning to do about Katherine? Are you going to like her silently, or are you going to make a move and win her over?"
Jonathan smiled again. "To be honest, I'm the latter, but whether I succeed or not depends on my luck."
Sophia was a bit surprised. "You plan to pursue Katherine? You don't mind that she's pregnant with Alex's child? Aren't you afraid of falling out with Alex because of Katherine?"
Jonathan squinted his eyes. "Of course, I mind. But Alex met Katherine first, and I can't change that. As for the child in her belly, I believe the Melville Family will take care of it."
Sophia understood. "So, you're planning to wait until Katherine gives birth, and the Melville Family takes the child, then you'll start dating her and have your kids?"
Jonathan raised his eyebrows. "The Melville Family will definitely take the child. When it comes to dating Katherine, I'm ready to start now, but she's not into it. I still need to work hard!"
