Chapter 388 Alex Can Cure Lovesickness

Katherine shook her head. "No, even if you weren't busy, you still wouldn't have a chance."

Jonathan looked surprised, then smirked. "Am I really that unappealing?"

Katherine smiled gently. "Maybe you're great, but when your heart's full of someone else, you can't see the good in others."

Jonathan stared at her. "So, Alex is the one who fills your heart?"

Katherine nodded. "Yes, I'm totally into him."

Jonathan's smile turned sarcastic. "Do you think Alex's heart is only for you?"

Katherine frowned and followed Jonathan's gaze. She saw Alex on the sofa, on a call, while everyone else watched the fireworks.

'It must be Scarlett calling again,' she thought. 'She always picks the right moments.'

Katherine was quiet for a moment. "He has his reasons. Scarlett once saved his life, so he can't just ignore her."

Jonathan chuckled. "See, you're not even sure if you're the only one in his heart."

Katherine's eyes turned cold. "At least most of his heart is with me."

"Really?" Jonathan's smile was unreadable.

Katherine didn't like Jonathan's presumptuousness. She looked back at the fireworks, ignoring him.

Jonathan muttered, "No matter how strong, girls always get lost in emotions. Katherine, I've known Alex longer. He's not one to take emotions seriously. You'll see he's quite cold-hearted."

Katherine glared at Jonathan. "And you? Are you a good person? Trying to mess with friends' relationships while Alex is on the phone—isn't that twisted?"

Jonathan paused, then smiled. "I may not be perfect, but I can give my whole heart to you. Won't you reconsider?"

Katherine found him narcissistic and boring. She turned away from the fireworks and left the terrace.

Jonathan watched her go, wanting to call her back but stayed silent. He watched her sit next to Alex before looking away.

Hilton draped an arm over Jonathan. "What were you chatting with Katherine about?"

Jonathan smiled. "Just wishing her and Alex well."

Hilton looked over just as Alex hung up and pulled Katherine into his arms, touching her face affectionately.

"Look at Alex being all lovey-dovey! Never thought I'd see the day."

Jonathan's eyes were cold. "Lovey-dovey, huh?"

Alex saw Katherine coming in. "Why aren't you watching the fireworks? Don't you like them?"

Katherine sat next to him, saying lazily, "Fireworks are fleeting. Even the prettiest scenery gets old. I'm done watching."

Alex narrowed his eyes and pulled her close. "You're not happy? Why the sad talk?"

She was a bit upset. "What did your lifesaver want this time?"

Alex was honest. "Charles had a high fever and wanted me to see him."

Katherine snorted. "So why didn't you go?"

Alex sensed her mood. "I sent a doctor. I can't treat illnesses, so what good would I do?"

Katherine forced a smile. "Who says you can't treat illnesses?"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What can I treat?"

Katherine teased, "Miss Mitchell's lovesickness! She gets better when she sees you!"

Alex's smile faded, and he looked at her seriously. Then he pulled her close, stroking her hair. "I know it's my fault, but I promise, from now on, I'll only be responsible for their safety, nothing more."

Katherine leaned against his chest, feeling reassured and a bit sleepy. "Alex, I have a question, and you have to be honest."

Alex's chin brushed her hair. "Okay, go ahead."

Katherine played with his hand. "In your heart, am I..."

"Ms. Mitchell, what are you doing here?" The manor's servants interrupted.

Scarlett, exhausted, ran in with the sick child. "Alex! Where's Alex?"

Katherine wasn't entirely surprised. Scarlett arrived faster than expected.

Scarlett saw Alex and ran over with Charles. "Alex!"

Alex frowned. "Didn't I call the doctor? Why bring Charles here?"

Scarlett looked helpless. "Charles insisted on seeing you. He wouldn't listen to the doctor unless he saw you! Look."

She held the child forward. Charles, pale and bandaged, weakly reached out. "Daddy... Daddy, hold me..."
