Chapter 360 Apologize to Her!

Bernard's sharp eyes locked onto Scarlett, who he'd adored since they were kids. "Are you sure you saw it yourself?"

Scarlett felt a bit guilty under his gaze and put on a slightly hurt expression. "Really! Bernard, don't you believe me?"

Bernard squinted, suspicious. "Then why did Charles say Katherine didn't hurt him?"

Charles said that? Scarlett's face stiffened. She quickly realized Bernard's call must've been from Billy! Charles must've told Billy something, and Billy passed it on to Bernard!

Not knowing exactly what Charles had said made Scarlett anxious, but she kept a straight face.

"Bernard, Charles is still so young. He can't even speak properly yet. How could he clearly describe what happened? Billy must've misunderstood him!"

Bernard's doubt didn't fade. "Charles can't describe complex things, but Billy showed him a picture of Katherine and asked if she hurt him. He kept shaking his head, saying no."

Scarlett blinked guiltily, her eyes reddening. "Bernard, Charles had his back to Katherine. No wonder he didn't see the attacker! I saw everything from where I was standing, and our maid saw it too!"

Bernard glanced at the kitchen maid nearby. He hadn't paid attention to her before, but now he recognized her. She made beauty soups for Scarlett daily, and they were close. Could Scarlett and the maid have planned this?

Bernard didn't want to think badly of Scarlett, but she had falsely accused Katherine before for Alex's sake. She had repented and begged for forgiveness. As her brother, he wanted to believe she had just made a mistake and wouldn't do it again.

But now, a similar situation had occurred, and it was worse, almost costing a life! If Scarlett was behind this, she must be insane to risk her own child's life!

The more he thought about it, the more terrifying it seemed. Bernard frowned. "Billy said Charles kept crying at the hospital. He showed him your photo to comfort him, hoping it would calm him. But Charles cried even more, saying he was scared. Why do you think that is?"

Bernard's eyes were filled with doubt as he looked at Scarlett. He didn't want to believe she could be so sinister and ruthless! But thinking about Charles's reaction, if Scarlett hadn't done something terrible, why would he be so afraid of his mother?

Bernard couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation.

Under Bernard's suspicious gaze, Scarlett couldn't keep her cool. She blinked awkwardly and forced an explanation.

"Charles said he's scared... The trauma must have left a scar. Seeing my photo, he probably wanted his mom, and since I wasn't there, he cried."

Bernard, who had watched Scarlett grow up, now found her unfamiliar. He took a deep breath. "Scarlett, I hope you are not lying to me."

He didn't push further, and Scarlett sighed in relief but still felt uneasy. Bernard seemed disappointed and didn't believe her anymore.

Tired from the commotion, Bernard turned to Alex and Katherine. "Alex, you can go now. Charles is fine, so let's call it a day."

Alex sneered. "Call it a day? You've been accusing my wife like she's a murderer, and now you want to drop it?"

Bernard frowned. "I just don't want to pursue it further. It doesn't mean Katherine is cleared of suspicion! Alex, do you really want to leave me no room to maneuver?"

Alex's eyes were sarcastic. "I know how meticulous you are. If you had solid evidence, you wouldn't let my wife off so easily! You know you were wrong and now want to smooth things over!"

Bernard's face tightened. "Then what do you want?"

Alex gently patted Katherine's head, like a parent protecting a child, and said firmly, "I want you to admit your mistake and give my wife a proper apology!"

Bernard frowned and glanced at Katherine. "Alex, don't push your luck!"

As Mr. Mitchell, should he admit his mistake and apologize to Katherine in front of everyone? What a joke!

Alex glared at him. "Bernard, if you consider yourself a man, you should stand up and apologize for your misjudgment!"

Bernard's face turned extremely ugly.

"What's all the commotion about?"

An elderly voice suddenly broke the tension in the kitchen.

Hearing the older man's voice, the Mitchell family staff stood respectfully, falling silent. Even the whispers stopped.

Soon, an older man with a cane was helped into the kitchen.

The older man looked at the lively scene and frowned curiously. "I just went out for a bit, and when I came back, the living room was empty. What are you all doing in the kitchen?"

Katherine immediately recognized the older man as Bernard's grandfather. He was the blind older man she had encountered before at the waterfront.

Back then, he had been upset about a car blocking the sidewalk and had angrily used his cane to hit the car. The car's owner had returned and was about to attack him.

She had happened to pass by and helped him deal with the car owner.

She clearly remembered he was blind at the time, but now he seemed to be able to see.
