Chapter 248 Becoming Bernard's Plus One

Scarlett knew Alex had been searching for Katherine all month.

So, she figured if Alex saw Katherine now, the misunderstanding about Charles would be cleared up immediately, preventing the outcome she wanted.

No way. She'd finally gotten Katherine away from Alex. She couldn't just let them reconcile.

Scarlett's mind raced. There were things she couldn't say herself, so she tugged on her best friend Sophie's hand.

Sophie was momentarily stunned when Scarlett suddenly tugged on her hand. Seeing Scarlett's helpless and pitiful expression, her heart ached. An idea came to her.

Sophie said, "It's Bernard. I remember he went in just now. He should be in the bathroom!"

Bernard inside? Alex withdrew his hand from the doorknob and turned to head to the hallway bathroom, but before he could open the door, the ward door swung open from the outside. Bernard walked in, standing tall.

He asked, "Scarlett, how's Charles?"

Seeing Bernard come in, Scarlett and Sophie's expressions changed again. Oh no! Why did Bernard come now?

This would expose everything!

Alex paused, looked at Bernard, then glanced at the bathroom door he couldn't open earlier, squinting in suspicion.

Bernard, clueless about the situation, nodded and greeted, "Alex, you're here too."

Alex didn't respond to Bernard. He turned his cold gaze to Sophie, asking, "Who's really in the bathroom?"

Scarlett and Sophie both looked uneasy. They glanced at each other, stammering without saying anything.
Noticing Katherine's absence and sensing the strange vibe, Bernard thought for a moment and guessed what was happening.

He said calmly, "It's Billy. Alex, if you need the bathroom, turn left outside."

Billy was inside?

Alex stared at the bathroom door for a few seconds, and the doubt in his eyes gradually faded. He would never guess that behind that thin door was Katherine, the woman he'd been frantically searching for over a month!

Alex's deep eyes showed a hint of fatigue. "Bernard, since you're here, I'll leave them to you. I have a flight to catch, so I'll go first."

Seeing Alex about to leave, Bernard frowned, feeling that Alex was irresponsible and didn't care about Scarlett and the child at all!

As Alex turned to open the door, Scarlett ran over and grabbed his sleeve.

"Alex," Scarlett called out.

Alex stopped and looked at her. "Anything else?"

Scarlett looked up at him with doe-like eyes, gently saying, "Alex, it's getting cold. Make sure to wear more clothes!"

Alex nodded slightly. "You take care of yourself and Charles."

Scarlett smiled obediently. "Don't worry, I will! Alex, when you come back, Charles will be fine!"

Alex responded with a faint "hmm." He didn't say anything more and opened the door to leave.

As her beloved man left, Scarlett felt reluctant, but now wasn't the time to keep Alex longer because Katherine was still hiding in the bathroom!

Thinking of Katherine, Scarlett's lips curled into a malicious smile, and she glanced at the bathroom door.

Katherine must have heard her and Alex's caring farewell conversation inside. She must be dying of jealousy, right?
Katherine should have the self-awareness to never show up in front of Alex again!

After Alex left, Bernard coldly said toward the bathroom, "Come out! He's gone."

Within seconds, the bathroom door opened and Katherine emerged. "Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, for showing up in time and helping me out."

Bernard glanced at her indifferently and didn't respond. Then, he walked to the bedside to check on his nephew, who was getting an IV. He touched the child's forehead to see if it was hot and looked at the child's face, which seemed normal, feeling much relieved.

Scarlett walked over and remarked, "Bernard, Charles is fine. The doctor said he just had a bit of an allergy. You don't need to investigate the maids and nannies; it has nothing to do with them."

"As long as he's fine." Bernard nodded, then turned to his sister with a stern look. "Scarlett, this is your first time being a mother. You need to do more work. Raising a child isn't easy, and you have to take full responsibility. After all, Charles is—"

Hearing her brother about to reveal that Charles was adopted, Scarlett immediately interrupted, "Bernard, I understand. I've been reading parenting books lately and will learn to be a good mother! But you're so busy with work, why did you come here again? Charles is fine now, so you should go back to the company and not delay your work!"

Bernard was worried while at the company. After finishing his urgent tasks, he rushed to the hospital to check on the situation.

Seeing that Scarlett and Charles were fine, he felt relieved. "Scarlett, you and Miss Jones stay with Charles in the hospital. I'll send someone to pick you up later."

Scarlett nodded and then responded, "Okay!"
Seeing Bernard about to leave, Sophie, still thinking about something important, gave Scarlett a look.

Catching Sophie's hint, Scarlett remembered. "Oh, Bernard, tomorrow is Auntie's birthday. Have you prepared a gift for her?"

Bernard answered, "I've already prepared it."

Scarlett asked again, "What about your plus one? You haven't decided yet, right?"

Bernard's expression became subtle. He glanced at Sophie, who looked shy and expectant beside his sister, and knew what Scarlett was planning.

He answered, "I already have a plus one, Scarlett. You don't need to worry about it."

Hearing this, Sophie's expression visibly changed from shy to disappointed.

Scarlett was also surprised and inquired, "You have a plus one? Who is she?"

Bernard was silent for a moment, then called out, "Ms. Galatea."

Katherine, who was standing aside and unrelated, was stunned. What did this have to do with her?

Then, she received a pressuring look from Bernard. Katherine was a smart gitl. Even if she was unwilling, she had to go along with it.

"Yes! Mr. Mitchell's plus one for tomorrow is me!" answered Katherine.

What?!

Sophie frowned, glaring at Katherine with resentment. So it was her!

Scarlett was also very surprised and stammered, "Bernard, you and Katherine—"

"Alright, you two stay with Charles." Bernard waved his hand, not wanting to listen to his sister anymore or stay longer. "Ms. Galatea, we’re going back to company."

Katherine responded, "Yes, Mr. Mitchell!"

In the car back to the Mitchell Group, Katherine sat properly in the passenger seat.

From the back seat, Bernard suddenly asked mockingly, "Katherine, are you that afraid of seeing Alex?"
