Chapter 592 You Deal with It
Alex rolled up to Frank's place.
Even though everyone called it Frank's house, it was really where Katherine, Frank, and Ambrosia all crashed.
Last time Katherine bailed from the Melville Manor, Alex figured out she was holed up here.
As soon as Alex stepped out of the elevator, he went ham on the doorbell. When nobody answered, he started pounding on the door like a madman.
Lucky for him, the building had just one apartment per floor, or the neighbors would've been all up in his business about the racket.
After what felt like forever, the door finally creaked open.
Frank, looking all groggy in his PJs, rubbed his eyes and scratched his head. "Mr. Melville, what the hell are you doing here at this hour? Shouldn't you be snoozing at home?"
Alex's face was ice-cold. He cut straight to the chase, "Where's Katherine? Get her out here!"
Frank just shrugged, looking totally unbothered. "Man, your goons already tore through my car. Why are you still here? I should be asking you where Katherine is! Where'd you stash her?"
Ignoring Frank, Alex barged in and stormed through the place. "Katherine, get out here!"
Frank scowled and trailed after him, clearly pissed. "Mr. Melville, you know this is trespassing, right? I could totally call the cops on you!"
Alex didn't even blink. He headed straight for the room where he'd last seen Katherine packing. He knocked, and when there was no answer, he shoved the door open.
But the room was empty, except for a fat white cat snoozing on the bed. The cat freaked out, its fur standing on end, and hissed.
Frank walked in, scooped up the cat to calm it down, and said, "She's really not here!"
Alex's bloodshot eyes scanned the room. Not seeing Katherine, he growled, "Where are you hiding her this time?"
Frank, still holding the cat, looked totally innocent. "Man, you're barking up the wrong tree! Where could we even hide her? If she wanted to ditch you, she wouldn't come somewhere you'd look. We haven't heard from her either. Couldn't reach her by phone today!"
Alex clenched his fists, anger bubbling up inside him. 'Does Katherine really not want me to find her?' he thought.
Seeing Alex's dark expression, Frank snapped, "Mr. Melville, instead of playing hide-and-seek, maybe you should think about why Katherine wants to ditch you. If you messed up, stop chasing her! From what I know about Katherine, even if you find her, she won't forgive you!"
Alex frowned. "What did I do to mess up?"
Frank shot back sarcastically, "How should I know what's up between you two? I'm just guessing 'cause Katherine wouldn't vanish for no reason!"
Alex's eyes narrowed. "So, do you know where she is or not?"
Frank threw his hands up, "I swear I got no clue! I wanna know where Katherine went too. I've blown up her phone a million times, but nada!"
Frank was being straight-up. He really had no idea where Katherine was hiding. She'd told him not to call her new number to keep Alex off her trail.
Alex kept his mouth shut because he had Katherine's phone. Before she bailed, he messed with it so only his calls and 911 could get through.
He'd sensed she was planning to dip, so he took precautions, even posted bodyguards to keep an eye on her at home. He wanted her to stay put until he got back from his overseas trip to sort things out. But she still managed to slip away.
Alex didn't wanna make things harder for Frank. After checking the place a few times and confirming she wasn't there, he said coldly, "If you hear from her, hit me up immediately!"
Frank wanted to tell him off, but to avoid any heat, he just said, "Alright."
Alex didn't stick around and left, looking kinda bummed.
Ambrosia came out of the bedroom just in time to see Alex's back as he got in the elevator. She squinted. "Mr. Melville seems really freaked out, huh?"
Frank sneered, "Well, duh, the chick carrying his kid is MIA."
Ambrosia shook her head thoughtfully. "I don't think it's just about the kid."
"So what if it's not? He still played Katherine and married some other chick overseas! Now he's acting all lovey-dovey!" Frank's eyes were full of disdain and anger.
Ambrosia speculated, "What if Mr. Melville had his reasons?"
"What reasons could justify getting hitched? Even if he had reasons, he should've been straight with Katherine. She's not unreasonable. It's messed up to keep her in the dark like that," Frank said angrily.
Ambrosia shrugged. "Just a thought. I wonder where Katherine is now and if she's good."
Frank said, "She should be good. Katherine mentioned she had someone else helping her besides us. She's probably settled by now. We'll wait for things to cool down, and then she'll reach out."
Ambrosia sighed and nodded. "Yeah."
Katherine hadn't told Frank and Ambrosia that she had asked Jonathan for help because she knew Alex would come looking for them. She didn't want them to know too much and risk slipping up. So, it was better to keep them in the dark.
Ambrosia walked over to close the door to keep the cat from bolting, then got ready to crash again. But Frank called out, "Hold up, Ambrosia!"
Ambrosia stopped and turned around, raising an eyebrow. "What's up?"
Frank pulled out his phone and tossed it to her. She caught it effortlessly and asked what he meant.
Frank grinned mischievously. "Sunny couldn't get ahold of you, so he kept blowing up my phone, asking where you are. You deal with it."
