Chapter 297 Bernard, I got it!

Sunny crossed his arms and kicked his feet up on Katherine's desk, abandoning the timid demeanor he had shown earlier around Bernard.

Katherine didn't even look up, too focused on her work.

Bernard, annoyed by her lack of reaction, straightened up and banged on her desk. "Katherine, I'm talking to you!"

She glanced at him casually. "What? If you want me to tutor you, just say so."

Sunny blinked awkwardly and snorted. "Did I say I wanted you to tutor me?"

"Then I must've misunderstood." Katherine went back to her work.

Seeing her ignore him again, Sunny's arrogance faded. "Katherine, Bernard froze all my cards, and I have an important esports competition in City C at the end of the month. I don't even have money for a bus ticket!"

Katherine kept typing. "Mr. Mitchell, I already covered the cost of the gift for your grandfather today. You don't expect me to sponsor your trip to the esports competition, do you?"

Sunny felt embarrassed and couldn't lift his head. "No. I wasn't asking to borrow money. Okay, I actually do want you to tutor me! Bernard said if I pass the midterm next week, he'll let me go to the competition. I heard you were a top student at Janetrick University. Please teach me how to improve my grades to satisfy Bernard quickly! The competition is really important to me; I can't miss it!"

Katherine looked up at his stubborn face, appreciating his rare display of humility towards his dreams. "I'm very busy right now. I don't have time."

Sunny pleaded, "I can wait until you're done. Katherine, I'm begging you!"

Katherine looked at him again. This arrogant Sunny was willing to humble himself for his dreams, which was quite rare!

Despite their slight blood relation, Katherine always felt a special sense of responsibility towards Sunny. Even though he often caused her trouble, she never held it against him.

After a moment, Katherine picked up the assignments Sunny had thrown on her desk and flipped through them. "Your foundation is too weak. It's almost impossible to improve to a passing grade in such a short time."

Sunny scratched his head in frustration. "How long will it take for me to pass?"

Katherine thought for a moment. "A teacher can only guide you; the rest is up to you! I'll explain one problem to you. For the rest, you'll have to apply the formulas and figure them out yourself. You need to grasp the basics first and then use your brain to understand the rest. Whether you can learn it depends on you!"

Sunny nodded vigorously. "Alright! Teach me quickly. Bernard is really angry. I need to solve one problem at least to calm him down!"

So, Katherine put aside her work and motioned for Sunny to sit down and listen.

Sunny, who had never been so eager for knowledge, pulled up a chair and sat near Katherine.

Katherine grabbed a blank sheet of A4 paper and a pen, picked a typical problem from Sunny's assignments, and broke it down with simple, easy-to-understand diagrams.

At first, Sunny looked worried, but as he listened, his frown relaxed. He found he could actually understand what Katherine was explaining!

It was weird. No matter how much the expensive tutors Bernard hired to explain, he couldn't grasp it. But with Katherine's diagrams, everything fell into place!

After explaining one problem, Katherine pushed the A4 paper toward Sunny. "Alright, I've explained the problem and the formulas you need for your current exam topics. You'll have to apply the formulas to the rest of the problems yourself. Once you're done, don't show them to me; just take them directly to Bernard!"

For once, Sunny followed instructions and redid the test paper that Bernard had almost torn to shreds.

Sitting next to Katherine, Sunny didn't feel as nervous or pressured as he did around Bernard. Relaxed, he found it easier to focus and think. He went from not understanding the problems at all to being able to read, comprehend, and solve them.

After finishing, he didn't ask Katherine to check his work but gratefully said, "Thanks! I think I can solve some problems now. I'll go show Bernard and see if I got them right!"

Katherine responded with a faint "Hmm" while busy with her work and added, "Mr. Mitchell, one more friendly suggestion: you should take some time to practice your handwriting. Even elementary school kids have neater writing than you!"

Sunny blushed. "Hmph, it's my calligraphy. What do you know about it!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow, indifferent to whether he listened or not. She just couldn't stand his messy handwriting and had to say something.

At the door, Sunny suddenly turned back, scribbled his phone number on a sheet of A4 paper with his spider-like handwriting, and handed it to Katherine.

"Here! This is my number. Call me after work tomorrow. I promised to take you to my grandfather's banquet, and I will keep my word!"

Katherine glanced at the number, took the paper, and smiled. "Alright, see you tomorrow!"

"See you tomorrow!" he replied.

Sunny hurried off with his assignments, eager to get Bernard's approval and calm him down!

Otherwise, not only would he miss the esports competition at the end of the month, but he also feared Bernard might use his connections to cancel the competition altogether!

Bernard had the power to do that, and it would be easy for him!

Sunny cautiously walked into the CEO's office and handed the revised test paper to his displeased brother. "Bernard, I managed to work some problems. Take a look."

Bernard was skimming through work documents and said coldly, "Take it away. I don't have time to be angry with you right now."

Sunny took a deep breath and, gathering his courage, pushed the paper forward. "Bernard, I really worked some problems. Please check if they're correct. If not, I'll just leave on my own."

Bernard sighed irritably, then took the paper, scanned it with a stern expression, paused, frowned, and looked up at his brother in disbelief. "Did you wrok them by yourself?"
