Chapter 436 Katherine Strikes Back
"Now I get it. No matter how much I like you, it's just a dream. I shouldn't have hidden my recovery to keep getting your sympathy.“
”Alex, my infertility is cured. You don't owe me anything anymore!“

After Scarlett's confession, she turned her years of pretending to be infertile into a momentary lapse of judgment. It made it hard to blame her for being so obsessed with love.
Alex stayed calm. Even though he never liked Scarlett and knew she lied, he couldn't be too harsh on someone who once saved his life.
After a pause, he said, "It's good your health is back. Take care of yourself. I don't owe you anything anymore."
Scarlett looked up, eyes red and pitiful, and asked, "Alex, now that I'm better, does that mean you don't want to see me anymore? Can't we at least be friends?"
Alex replied, "You saved my life once. Whether or not you have lasting effects, I owe you gratitude.“
”If you need help in the future, contact my secretary, Leander. He'll assist on my behalf.“
”Since I'm now a family man, I should avoid meeting other women. Given the relationship between the Melville and Mitchell families, I don't think it's necessary to be friends."
His words were clear and not exactly kind.
Scarlett nodded reluctantly. "I understand, Alex..."
She looked disappointed but felt relieved inside. Her words had somewhat salvaged the situation, keeping her image from completely collapsing.
As long as Alex saw her as his savior, his current attitude didn't mean everything. There was still a long way to go.

Katherine chided as she approached, then smiled apologetically at Scarlett. "You risked your life to save Alex. How can he stop seeing you just because you're better?“

Scarlett's eyes were wary. Seeing Katherine approach, she instinctively became alert, thinking she had ulterior motives.
But she had to cooperate. "Katherine, thank you for being willing to be friends with me despite everything..."
Katherine warmly took Scarlett's hand. "Oh, we're both girls. Of course, I get you! You were just blinded by love and made a mistake. It's understandable!"
Scarlett forced a very unnatural smile, feeling uneasy as Katherine warmly held her hand. This Katherine must be up to something!

Alex was speechless.

So, she pretended to be cornered, blinking uneasily. "Katherine, are you worried I still have feelings for Alex and are warning me this way? Don't worry, I won't..."
Katherine shook her head, interrupting her with a cheerful smile, "What do I have to worry about? If there was something between you two, it would have happened long ago. It has nothing to do with me!"
Scarlett's face darkened for a moment, gritting her teeth secretly, and continued to feign unease. "Then why are you..."
Katherine said brightly, "I'm just curious about his past!“
