Chapter 829 Still Captivated

Trevor's lips curled into a slight smile, "Even though I don't remember, a person's instinctive reactions don't lie. I'm still drawn to her."

Linda seemed to understand partially, "Trevor, it's mainly because you have good taste. Even if you don't remember her, you haven't been fooled by that bad woman Sophia all these years. I admire you for that!"

Trevor pressed his lips together, "Thanks for the compliment. When your parents and Sophia come back, please don't mention what just happened."

Linda nodded, "Don't worry! I'm on your side now!"

Brent and Nora found the room upstairs that Linda had mentioned.

However, what they saw was a waiter cleaning up.

The waiter said that the guests in the room had finished their meal and left.

Brent and Nora were a bit disappointed. They had thought that what Linda said might be true, and even if Linda had mistaken someone, they could at least see the woman she mistook.

But in the end, they saw nothing.

Sophia, who followed up, sighed in feigned disappointment, "Dad, Nora, the person is gone. Linda made us come up here to check. Could this be a prank, just to mess with us?"

Nora immediately shook her head, "No way. Linda may be stubborn, but she would never lie on purpose."

Sophia frowned. "Nora, I think you shouldn't spoil Linda too much! If you keep covering for her, she might tell bigger lies when she grows up, and by then, it will be too late to teach her a lesson if she causes big trouble!"

Nora wanted to retort against Sophia's malicious speculation about her daughter, but as a stepmother, anything she said could be misinterpreted by Sophia. After thinking about it, she decided to let it go.

Brent frowned, "Alright, since the person is gone, let's go back downstairs."

Sophia shrugged, "What a wasted trip!"

When Brent went upstairs, he was gently holding Nora's shoulder, but when he came back down, his hands were in his pockets, reflecting his change in mood.

Sophia secretly rolled her eyes at Nora and then followed Brent downstairs with a smug look.

Nora stood there for a moment, then turned to look at the empty room, thinking that Linda couldn't have lied to her. Perhaps the benefactor really was here for a meal but left quickly because they didn't want to be found after doing a good deed.

As she was about to go downstairs, her phone suddenly rang in her pocket.

She took out the phone and saw that it was a call from her best friend in Markovia.

Nora answered the call while walking downstairs, "Claire, what's up? It should be late at night in Markovia now, why aren't you asleep?"

On the other end of the line was Claire's gentle and calm voice with a hint of coolness, "I couldn't sleep and needed someone to talk to."

Nora sensed her friend's bad mood and stopped walking, concerned, "Did something happen?"

Claire was silent for a few seconds, "I think my son has found me."

Nora was a bit surprised, "Really? How did he find you?"

"Through another student of mine. He recognized my handwriting and asked my student to arrange a meeting."

"Did you meet him?"

"No."

Nora's brows furrowed with concern, "Since he has found you, why not meet him? I know you've always been thinking about him."

Claire's tone became more somber, "I don't know how to face him, and I don't want to hear anything about that family. He's doing well; I occasionally see his updates in financial news. That's enough for me."

Nora sighed, "If you really felt that way, you wouldn't be unable to sleep and calling me to talk! Claire, you know that besides your son, Edwin has been looking for you too. He still has feelings for you, and you for him, don't you?"

Claire's tone suddenly turned sarcastic, "He has feelings for me? If he did, would he have remarried so quickly? Stop defending him!"

"But I've heard his marriage is just for show, and a few years ago, for some unknown reason, he sent that woman to live alone in their Summer Villa, never to return."

"Their family matters have nothing to do with me anymore."

Nora knew it was pointless to continue over the phone. "Alright, I won't say more! Once Cole's matters are settled in a few days, I'll come back to see you, and we can talk about this properly."

Claire asked, "Has Linda done her homework?"

"She only finished one piece of the homework you gave her. Lately, her temper has been quite bad, causing me a lot of worry."

"Don't worry, Linda is a good kid. She won't disappoint you when she grows up. But Brent's eldest daughter, Sophia, is not a good person. Be careful."

Nora was taken aback, Claire had hit the nail on the head, making her feel both touched and comforted, "Yes, I know, I will."

"I've always told you that being a stepmother is tough. But you still went ahead and married that man with such a violent past, all for love."

"You say that, but didn't you also marry for love back then?"

The two sighed in unison on the phone and then hung up.

Love was truly a major challenge in every woman's life!

After hanging up, Nora looked up and realized that Trevor and Sophia were already out of sight, so she hurriedly quickened her pace downstairs.

When Sophia and Brent returned to their table, only Trevor and Linda were eating, and Julian's seat was empty.

"Trevor, why is it just you and Linda? Where's Julian?" Sophia asked curiously.

Trevor remained calm, "He went to the restroom again."

Julian hadn't finished changing yet. Hopefully, Sophia wouldn't notice anything later.

Sophia found it even stranger. Trevor was always concerned about Julian's safety. Initially, he would personally accompany him, and later, he only felt at ease when Linda went with him.

Why did he agree to let him go to the restroom alone this time? Wasn't he worried about Julian running around?

Sophia forced a smile, "What's up with Julian today? Why is he going to the restroom so frequently? Could it be a stomach issue?"

Trevor replied, "Probably drank too much juice."

Hearing Trevor's explanation, Sophia looked at the empty juice glass at Julian's seat and found it reasonable.

While they were talking, Brent had already sat back in his seat with a serious expression.
