Chapter 602 Speaking Ill
Sunny shrugged it off. "Ambrosia, let's just chow down with Mr. Melville. The more, the merrier, right?"
Ambrosia thought for a sec, then strolled over, ready to feel out Sophia. "Alright, we won't hold back then!"
Sophia tilted her head and flashed a bright smile. "Of course, no need to be shy. You guys are Alex's friends, so you're my friends too!"
Ambrosia adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and sneered to herself. 'This chick seems chill, but she's low-key saying she's tight with Alex. Whether she's flexing on purpose or just letting it slip, people will see it differently!'
Ambrosia plopped down next to Sophia, and Sunny naturally took the seat next to Alex. The four of them sat there, eyeing each other.
Alex kept his cool, slicing his steak, not giving a damn about what was going on around him.
Sunny threw a few questions at Alex, and he just gave short answers.
Sophia, not eating, rested her chin on her hand and looked at Ambrosia beside her, smiling. "Ms. Hawthorne, what's Ms. Galatea like? Can you describe her to me?"
Ambrosia paused her knife and fork, turning slightly to meet Sophia's curious gaze. "Why are you so interested in her?"
Sophia replied straight up, "I hear Alex talk about her a lot, and I've always been curious about what kind of girl she is. I thought I'd meet Ms. Galatea when I got back, but she dipped out. Such a bummer!"
Ambrosia thought, 'Alex talks about Katherine to this woman? I wonder how Alex talks about Katherine. Talking about another chick to his wife—who does that?'
Ambrosia said, "Mr. Melville talks to you about Katherine, so you should ask him what she's like. He knows her best."
Sophia glanced at the stone-faced Alex, feeling a bit bored. "Alex always keeps it short, and lately, he doesn't even mention Ms. Galatea. If I ask him, he won't spill! Ms. Hawthorne, you gotta tell me! I'm dying to know what kind of girl Ms. Galatea is, to make everyone like her so much."
Ambrosia thought to herself, 'Is Sophia, as the wife, asking me for information about a ''home wrecker''?'
The term 'home wrecker' popped into her head, making Ambrosia a bit pissed. 'Katherine isn't a home wrecker; she got tricked into marriage by Alex. But to Sophia, the ''wife,'' any other woman with Alex is definitely a home wrecker.
Katherine hates home wreckers the most, but Alex makes her look like one. How can she forgive him? Sophia isn't simple either. Knowing I'm friends with Katherine, she brings up Katherine in front of me to flex.
Can't flex on Katherine, so she does it to her friend, thinking I'll pass the message to Katherine, huh? Sophia and Alex are both cunning and shrewd!'
"Why do you think I'd spill something Mr. Melville doesn't want to? Sophia, it's cool you invited us to eat, but we ain't that tight, are we?" Ambrosia shot back.
Sophia didn't get mad, just kept smiling. "Ms. Hawthorne, why so guarded? Do you know where Ms. Galatea is?"
Sophia's question made Alex, who'd been stone-faced, suddenly look up at Ambrosia.
Ambrosia barely kept her cool; Sophia was no joke. She adjusted her glasses. "I wish I knew where she was! We haven't seen her in ages, and we're all worried. But she doesn't want to show up because there are folks here she doesn't wanna see! So, we don't wanna make it hard for her."
Sophia played dumb. "People Ms. Galatea doesn't want to see? Ms. Hawthorne, you don't mean Alex, do you? Why wouldn't she want to see him? From what I know, he treats her well!"
Ambrosia snapped back, "What do you mean by 'well'? Sweet-talking to fool people is 'well'? If you think that's good, then you can keep it. Katherine doesn't care."
Sophia frowned a bit. "So, Ms. Hawthorne, you must know why Ms. Galatea left Alex, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't be saying this. You're sticking up for your friend!"
Sophia then turned to Alex. "Alex, did you hear that? Ms. Hawthorne isn't happy with you. Must be 'cause Ms. Galatea complained about you to her!"
Ambrosia gritted her teeth, thinking, 'Sophia's really something! But Katherine doesn't care about this drama anymore! She doesn't care what Alex thinks, so it doesn't matter what Sophia says!'
Alex's stare made Ambrosia uneasy. She tried to stay calm and smiled. "Mr. Melville, why are you looking at me like that?"
Alex frowned, staring at her, and asked, "Do you know where Katherine is?"
Ambrosia's heart skipped a beat; Alex's gaze was intense.
She couldn't let her issues mess up Katherine's plans. Ambrosia smiled. "I just said, I don't know, and neither does Frank. We're also looking for her, but no luck. I wanted to ask you, Mr. Melville, if you've found any news about Katherine?"
Alex's gaze got even colder, and he shook his head. "No."
Ambrosia said sarcastically, "Seems like Katherine really doesn't want to be found by certain people! Because of certain people, she doesn't even want to see Frank and me!"
Alex's frown deepened.
Sophia's eyes flickered as she said, "Ms. Hawthorne, did Ms. Galatea ever badmouth Alex to you?"
