Chapter 342 Why Did You Bring Her Back Again?
"Thanks for your cooperation!"
Frank sensed Alex had a hidden agenda but played along.
They stopped talking, but the tension was thick, like the clam before the storm.
Luckily, Katherine emerged with her suitcase, breaking the silence.
"Alex, I'm ready!"
Alex just nodded, got up, and walked over to her.
Frank stood up too, trying to act sweet. "Honey, why the suitcase? Where are you going without telling me?"
Katherine gave him a look and sighed. "Enough with the 'honey' act. We've been found out!"
Frank was stunned. "Found out? Seriously?"
Ignoring Frank, Katherine turned to Alex. "Alex, let's go."
She wanted to leave quickly to avoid trouble for Frank.
Alex noticed her small suitcase and raised an eyebrow. "What about the cat?"
The cat?
Katherine glanced at Molly by Frank's feet. "Molly's old and doesn't like new places. I'll visit often."
Visit often?
Alex frowned but said nothing. He took her suitcase and gently held her shoulder. "Let's go."
Frank watched Alex's possessive gesture, feeling the pressure.
Alex's claim on Katherine was clear.
Even as they left, Frank was confused. Katherine just went with him?
Didn't she say she wanted nothing to do with Alex?
Suddenly, Ambrosia, looking half-asleep, poked her head out from another room.
Frank snapped back, "Ambrosia, you were here the whole time?"
Ambrosia nodded. "Needed sleep, didn't go to the office."
Frank complained, "Why didn't you come out earlier? Alex took Katherine!"
Ambrosia replied, "I heard."
Frank asked, "Do you think Katherine went willingly?"
Ambrosia adjusted her glasses and said, "Katherine's hard to read. We won't figure it out."
Frank agreed.
"But how did Alex know our marriage was fake? Weren't we convincing?"
Ambrosia rolled her eyes. "With your behavior with women, you think you could fool him?"
Frank felt embarrassed. "Sorry! But I can't help it; I need to have fun!"
Ambrosia rolled her eyes again. "Take care of yourself."
Katherine sat quietly in the car, knowing any struggle would just give Alex an excuse to hold her tighter.
Forget it. Why bother?
They got out of the car in the Melville Manor courtyard.
Leander grabbed her luggage from the trunk while Katherine stood by the car, staring at the familiar place, not moving.
Alex, hands in his pockets, looked at her. "What are you standing there for? Don't want to go in?"
She really didn't. Katherine glanced at him, then walked towards the Melvilles' door.
Knowing Alex, if she didn't move, he'd probably carry her in.
Alex watched her reluctant but obedient walk, frowning thoughtfully, then followed her inside.
Seeing Alex walk away, the servants who were sweeping leaves in the courtyard dropped their brooms and started gossiping.
"Did you see that? Mrs. Melville is back!"
"Really, she is back!"
"Mr. Melville finally found Mrs. Melville!"
They didn’t used to respect Katherine because she had no background, thinking she was just a temporary fling Alex brought back to appease Mr. Jack Melville.
Later, they realized Alex treated her differently and began to respect her unique personality.
After Katherine ran away, they missed her. Now, seeing her return safely, they were genuinely happy.
Fiona was enjoying afternoon tea in the dining room.
Recently, there were exams at school, and her grandparents had just allowed her to return to Janetrick a few days ago.
While eating dessert, she heard the servants say Alex was back and was happy. She hadn't seen her brother in a while!
But when she walked out, her face soured.
Alex didn't come back alone; that damn Katherine was with him!
Wasn't Katherine supposed to be gone? Why was she back?
Fiona rubbed her eyes, confirming she wasn't mistaken. She asked, "Alex, why did you bring this troublesome woman back?"
Alex's face darkened, eyes narrowing. "What did you call her?"
Fiona's back went cold.
In her heart, her sister-in-law had always been Scarlett!
Scarlett was the best, always buying her clothes and bags.
Unlike Katherine, a country girl who couldn't fit in, who had been locked up and sent abroad by their grandmother!
She didn't want to call Katherine anything!
Fiona reluctantly said, "…Katherine."
Katherine nodded slightly and walked past her, heading upstairs.
She knew Fiona's greeting wasn't sincere, so she responded politely and didn't bother with fake pleasantries.
Alex glanced at Fiona, then followed Katherine upstairs.
Fiona felt something was wrong, lost her appetite for tea, and ran to her room to call Scarlett.
"Scarlett!" Fiona called out.
On the other end, Scarlett's voice was gentle. "Fiona, what's up?"
Fiona said, "Scarlett, I smell a rat! Alex brought that annoying Katherine back home again!"
Scarlett asked, "What? Alex… brought Katherine back to the Melville family?"
