Chapter 271 She Had Morning Sickness in Front of Him!
Scarlett strolled over, beaming, with Charles in her arms. "Katherine, fancy seeing you here! Shopping too?"
Katherine replied coolly, "Yeah, sort of."
Scarlett's gaze shifted to Jonathan, who stood beside Katherine with a shopping basket. With a sly smile, she asked, "Jonathan, why are you shopping with Katherine?"
Jonathan kept his usual smile and said, "Katherine got promoted to sales manager at the Mitchell Group today. Bernard wants her to handle the sales cooperation with our Mostow Group. So, I brought her here to get a feel for the market."
Katherine had worried Jonathan might be vague, but she was relieved he answered Scarlett directly.
Jonathan was quite reliable when others were around.
Scarlett blinked in surprise. "Katherine, you got promoted! Congratulations!"
Katherine knew Scarlett wasn't genuinely happy for her and just gave a tight-lipped smile. "Thanks."
Scarlett continued warmly, "Alex and I just went to the baby store but didn't find what we needed. We're about to grab lunch! Jonathan, Katherine, if you haven't eaten yet, why don't you join us?"
She turned to the man beside her, tilting her head innocently. "What do you think, Alex?"
Alex's handsome face stayed blank. "Up to you."
With a sweet smile, Scarlett eagerly looked at Katherine and Jonathan. "Jonathan, Katherine, come on! Alex is treating!"
Jonathan was up for lunch but waited for Katherine's decision. He respectfully asked Katherine, "Katherine, what do you think?"
Katherine was clearly uninterested. She didn't want to sit and eat with Scarlett, and from experience, every time she ran into Scarlett, something bad happened.
"Mr. Mostow, thanks for showing me around the market. Since you bumped into your friends, feel free to have lunch with them. I need to get back to the office," Katherine said.
With that, Katherine gave a faint goodbye and turned to leave.
Jonathan didn't want to push her and was about to follow when Scarlett, holding her child, chased after them and blocked Katherine's way.
"Katherine, you haven't had lunch yet, right? You can't work on an empty stomach. It's not too late to go back after eating! Don't worry, I'll tell Bernard you were with me, and he won't mind!" Scarlett insisted.
Katherine replied, "Thanks, Miss Mitchell, but I'll just eat in the company cafeteria."
Seeing Katherine still intent on leaving, Scarlett looked hurt.
"Katherine, why do I feel like you don't want to have lunch with me? Is it because of our past misunderstandings? Do you still dislike me?" Scarlett asked.
Katherine raised an eyebrow at Scarlett's theatrics. "Miss Mitchell, you're overthinking. I just want something light at the company and don't want to mess with everyone's taste because of my preferences."
Hearing her explanation, Scarlett immediately smiled innocently. "Oh, I see! No problem. Charles also needs to eat light. We can go for some light food, and you can pick your favorite sides. Let's go!"
Katherine looked at Scarlett, a faint, cold smile on her lips.
Scarlett was pushing for this lunch just to flaunt her happy, loving family in front of her!
Who else would she show it to?
It seemed that if she didn't agree to this lunch, Scarlett wouldn't let it go.
Katherine didn't want to argue anymore. "Alright, since Miss Mitchell insists, I can't refuse."
Scarlett immediately put on a happy face. "Katherine, I knew you were the best and wouldn't hold a grudge!"
At Tranquil Lily Cafe, Scarlett first placed Charles in a baby seat and then warmly handed Katherine the menu. "Katherine, you go ahead and order. Don't be shy!"
Katherine waved her hand, not taking the menu.
Jonathan smiled and placed the open menu between them. "It's okay. We can share one. Katherine, take a look and see what you want to eat."
Seeing this, Scarlett smiled and deliberately asked, "Jonathan, you're so considerate to Katherine! Is it because...?"
Jonathan chuckled. "You figured it out!"
Katherine twitched her mouth. She had just thought Jonathan had some sense, but now he was at it again!
While ordering, Katherine felt a cold, piercing gaze from across the table, making her very uncomfortable.
That gaze seemed to carry a tangible chill, freezing her to the core.
Scarlett asked, "Alex, what do you want to eat?"
Holding the menu, she turned to ask the man beside her, only to find Alex's gaze fixed on Katherine.
Her eyes darkened briefly, but she quickly smiled brightly and asked again, "Alex? What do you want to eat? I'll order for you!"
Alex lowered his gaze. "Anything is fine. You order."
Scarlett smiled sweetly. "Okay, then I'll order your usual favorites!"
Her words were natural and casual, revealing her understanding of his tastes and highlighting their intimacy.
Katherine ordered two dishes and then pushed the menu to Jonathan, who was not looking at it anymore.
Jonathan ordered two light salads and elegantly handed the menu back to the waiter.
Few people were dining at noon, so the food arrived quickly.
Scarlett had said her son needed to eat light, but she ended up ordering a Smoked Salmon Bagel with Cream Cheese.
Seeing the plate of Smoked Salmon Bagel with Cream Cheese, Katherine immediately smelled the strong cheese aroma, and her stomach churned.
Lately, she couldn't stand strong smells, andcontrolling her reactions was difficult. Suddenly, she felt nauseous!
She quickly turned her head, covering her mouth and dry-heaving a couple of times!
After patting her chest and calming down, she turned back to find the three people at the table looking at her with strange expressions.
Katherine cleared her throat, took a napkin, and calmly wiped her mouth. "Sorry, I've had gastritis these past two days and can't stand strong smells."
Alex narrowed his eyes and took a sip of water.
He seemed to be suspecting something, his gaze growing darker and more inscrutable as if trying to capture every subtle expression on her face.
