Chapter 1027 I Will Do My Best
The makeup artist was convinced that the two of them had an improper relationship, and no matter how much they tried to explain, it was useless.
Although the people around didn't say anything, they secretly agreed with the makeup artist.
That was human nature; people were naturally drawn to forbidden and intriguing stories, even if they were completely false.
"Alright, we've explained everything that needed to be explained. The truth will speak for itself. Everyone, let's get back to work. The movie will start shooting on time."
Despite still having many doubts and suspecting that they had an improper relationship, since Curtis had said so, no one dared to say anything more and just went back to their places.
The makeup artist, having offended Curtis, didn't plan to stay any longer and immediately packed up and left.
After everyone dispersed, Curtis sighed, "Christina, I didn't handle this well, I'm sorry. But don't worry, we didn't do anything, so there's nothing to fear from what others say."
Christina gave a bitter smile, "Mr. Caldwell, I dragged you into this. If you hadn't chosen me as the lead actress, there wouldn't be all this trouble."
"I chose you because you were perfect for the role," Curtis reassured her, still confident in his decision. "What others say doesn't matter. Just do your best, and their words will lose their power."
Christina had no better way to prove her innocence, so she nodded, "Okay, Mr. Caldwell, I will do my best."
"Good, I've asked Marsha to contact a new makeup artist, which might take some time. Use this time to prepare well, and we'll start on time later," Curtis said and then left.
Christina nodded, sat alone in the makeup room, and took out the script to study it.
Since no one believed she could play Valeria Song well, she had to prove them wrong.
Only by doing so could she prove that she didn't get the role through improper means.
The new makeup artist arrived about an hour later, touched up Christina's makeup, and the shooting finally began.
With Curtis's one-on-one guidance and her own preparation, the shooting went much more smoothly.
As the shooting progressed, Christina's mood relaxed a lot, and she was no longer as nervous.
After the movie shoot ended, she returned to her hotel room to rest.
She fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed and didn't know how long she slept. When she woke up groggily, she saw several missed calls from Bernard on her phone.
Christina rubbed her eyes, sat up, and messaged Bernard: [I was asleep. What's up?]
Bernard: [Open the door.]
Christina stared at the message for a long time before realizing what he meant. She got up to open the hotel room door.
Bernard was standing outside when she opened the door.
"You... how... how are you here?" Christina stammered, startled to see Bernard suddenly appear in front of her.
Bernard helplessly tugged at the corners of his mouth and lifted the things in his hand, "I was handling some company matters nearby and came to check on you."
"Oh." Christina, just woken up, was still in a daze.
Bernard walked into the room and placed the things he brought on the table, "Curtis said you didn't have dinner today, so I bought you some food on the way."
"Uh, how do you know all this?" Christina sat down on a chair and opened the food box, which was filled with delicious-looking dishes.
Bernard just sat beside her with a cold expression, not saying much.
He hadn't planned to come today, but after hearing from Curtis that her shooting didn't go well, he decided to check on her.
Christina didn't have much appetite during dinner, but after a nap, she felt hungry and the food looked even more appetizing.
She quietly focused on eating without talking to Bernard.
Bernard also watched her silently without saying much.
After finishing her meal, Christina patted her stomach, "Oh no, the director said I need to control my weight during the shoot, but the food was so good I couldn't help but finish it."
"Just eat, I can talk to Curtis," Bernard, used to solving problems in the simplest way, thought of talking to Curtis first.
Christina quickly refused, "No, no, don't say anything."
Rumors were already spreading in the crew that she got the lead role through connections. If Bernard intervened to get her special treatment, the rumors would only become more credible.
Since Christina didn't want it, Bernard didn't insist, but his face darkened a bit more.
Seeing she had finished eating, Bernard stood up, ready to leave, "I'm leaving. Focus on your acting, and call Billy if you need anything."
Before Christina could say anything, Bernard had already left the room, and she only heard the door closing.
Looking around, the room was empty.
Christina felt a bit dazed, not sure if she had really seen Bernard or if it was just her imagination.
After a good night's sleep, Christina was woken up by a phone call the next day.
"Ms. Russell, this is Marsha, Mr. Caldwell's assistant. Check Twitter."
Hearing Marsha's not-so-good tone, Christina groggily woke up and opened Twitter.
Seeing the headline news, she was instantly wide awake!
The makeup artist who left yesterday had posted a long article on Twitter, complaining about a new actress stealing her eyeshadow palette and using an improper relationship with the director to force her out of the crew.
Everything Curtis had prepared for Valeria Song was the best, and this makeup artist was quite well-known in the makeup circle, even having some celebrity fans.
Her online rant quickly caused a stir.
By the time Christina saw it, people had already dug out her identity as a new actress and were furiously complaining about her online.
[New actress forces out well-known makeup artist, turns out it's her!]
[Turns out a certain newbie got movie resources by sleeping with the director!]
[Can a thief be an actress?]
The news was so hot that reporters kept publishing articles about the incident.
Reporters, aiming to attract attention, naturally used particularly harsh headlines.
Christina opened the comment section, and the comments from netizens were even more unbearable.
[She is really despicable, stealing things and forcing people out.]
[I was on set, the director helped her the whole time, and the makeup artist left in anger.]
[What's the relationship between the director and her? Helping her the whole time, could it really be...]
