Chapter 933 Don't Need To Show Mercy
Nora felt embarrassed and lowered her head. "Katherine, I know this is inappropriate, but I still hope you can be lenient with Brent. He only made mistakes because he wanted to protect Sophia too much! I will make sure he makes it up to you!"
Brent saw Nora being so humble in front of Katherine, and his brows furrowed even deeper. He was about to speak but was stopped by Linda pulling his hand, so he reluctantly closed his mouth.
Katherine guessed as much, her face remained calm, with a faint, unreadable smile on her lips.
"Nora, have you ever heard a saying?"
Nora looked a bit confused, "What saying?"
Katherine's gaze suddenly turned sharp, "If saying sorry fixed everything, we wouldn't need the police!"
Nora looked embarrassed, "Uh..."
Katherine continued, "Mrs. Coleman, I know you are my mother's best friend and have taken good care of her over the years, but these are two separate matters. I will always respect and appreciate the friendship you have with my mother, but this situation is different. I cannot forgive your husband!
You love your husband, and I love my husband! Although Alex is very fortunate to be standing by my side today, it doesn't mean that Brent's previous harm to him can be overlooked!
As far as I know, Alex was in a wheelchair because Brent broke his legs, right? The pain he suffered cannot be just forgotten!
And Sophia, with her malicious intentions, used despicable means to keep Alex and one of my two sons by her side, causing them even greater psychological harm!
These are all clear and undeniable facts, and I cannot forgive Brent just because you are my mother's best friend!
I can't do it, and I won't allow Alex to swallow his anger just because of me!"
Nora was speechless. She had seen how Alex had lived these past three years and couldn't deny the harm Brent had done to him.
"Katherine, I just hope you can give him a chance to make it up to you."
Katherine snorted coldly, "Sorry, we don't need any compensation!"
Seeing that she couldn't get through to Katherine, Nora turned her gaze to Claire. Claire looked at her, her eyes trembling, but eventually, she looked away!
If it had happened to her, she might have let it go because of Nora!
But this happened to Katherine and Alex, and she didn't want to force Katherine.
Over the years, she had owed Katherine too much, and she didn't want to add to Katherine's burden after their reunion!
So, she could only apologize to Nora!
Seeing Claire avoid her gaze, Nora understood and sighed helplessly, giving up.
"Alright, I understand how you feel. Let's leave it at that! Let's pretend I didn't say anything earlier. Katherine, you should eat with Claire and Mr. Melville while the food is still warm; it won't taste good if it gets cold!"
Katherine nodded slightly, "Thank you for understanding!"
Seeing this, Brent felt that his apology had been in vain and turned to leave!
Linda chased after Brent, grabbing his hand, "Dad, where are you going?"
Brent snorted coldly, "Can't you see what's going on? They won't accept my apology, so why should I stay here? Let's go!"
Linda looked frustrated, "But Dad..."
"No buts!" Brent bent down to pick up Linda, "I shouldn't have come here! Let's go find Sophia! She's still waiting for us to save her!"
Nora, feeling both embarrassed and helpless, sighed and said goodbye to Claire and Katherine before quickly chasing after Brent and Linda.
Watching them leave, Claire's eyes darkened, and she felt a bit heavy-hearted.
Katherine said nothing, acting as if nothing had happened, and served some food to Claire, "Mom, you should eat some dinner first!"
Claire nodded, forcing a smile at Katherine, and said nothing as she took the food.
Seeing Claire start eating, Katherine turned to Alex, who had been standing quietly by her side, "Come with me to the restroom."
Alex said nothing, as if he understood everything, and walked out with her.
In the evening, the hospital corridor was a bit quieter.
Katherine took Alex's hand seriously, "Listen, you don't have to be lenient with Brent because of my mom. I don't want you to suffer for me and my mom! Handle this matter as you see fit!"
Alex tilted his head to look at her, "Actually, I don't feel very wronged!"
Katherine frowned, "Even if you don't feel wronged, I do! Why should you easily forgive Brent for breaking your legs? Everyone must pay for their mistakes! Brent is no exception, and neither is Sophia!"
Seeing her so agitated, even to the point of tears, Alex felt a pang of heartache. He hugged her and gently patted her head, "Alright, I won't be lenient. I will make them pay. Don't feel wronged, don't cry! Don't cry for me; I can't stand to see you in tears."
Katherine buried her face in Alex's chest. She knew she would insist on not letting Brent off the hook because of Claire, but Alex, out of love for her and respect for Claire, might forgive Brent.
She wouldn't allow it!
Alex had never suffered such humiliation, and he shouldn't have to let Brent off the hook because of her and Claire. It was impossible!
"I'm serious. You don't have to show any mercy to Brent! He spoiled Sophia into the heartless person she is, and he should bear the consequences of his actions!"
Alex hugged her, "Yes, you're right. I'll listen to you!"
Katherine, still worried, emphasized again, "I'll explain things to my mom myself. You don't have to worry about it! Do you hear me?"
Alex rested his chin on her head and affectionately nuzzled her, "Yes, I hear you!"
Meanwhile, in the elevator!
Nora was earnestly trying to persuade Brent, "Cole, didn't we agree not to save Sophia? Why are you going to save her again!"
Brent, holding Linda, snorted, "Nora, you saw it too. It's not that I don't want to apologize; it's that my apology is useless! They won't give you any respect, and won't forgive me for the sake of your friend! What's the use of your long friendship with Claire? Instead of caring about them, I'd rather care about Sophia!"
