Chapter 687 Leaving No Thoughts Behind
Katherine shrugged. "Thanks for coming, but I really don't want to talk about this."
Jonathan grinned, "So, if you're thinking about getting back with Alex, where does that leave me?"
Katherine looked at him with genuine eyes and said, "Jonathan, you're a friend. We'll always be friends."
Jonathan's face fell. He laughed bitterly, "Always? So, no chance at all, huh?"
"Leading someone on without feelings is something a player would do. And that's not me." Katherine yawned and stood up. "You guys enjoy your meal. I'm heading to bed."
Teresa got up too. "Katherine, let me help you upstairs."
Katherine didn't argue and let Teresa assist her.
Jonathan looked disappointed, his eyes distant.
After a while, he reached for the glass of water Katherine had left.
But Frank stopped him.
Frank smiled, "Mr. Mostow, Katherine drank from that glass."
Jonathan chuckled, "I don't mind."
Frank's smile didn't waver, and he said, "But Katherine does."
They exchanged a tense look. Jonathan raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you worried that if I marry Katherine, you'll regret this?"
Frank held the glass firmly and retorted, "We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Right now, you're not her husband."
Jonathan sighed and let go of the glass. "Enjoy your meal. I've got to go."
He stood up and waved to Bernard by the window, "Bernard, I'm out. Let's catch up soon."
Bernard nodded and said, "Sure, take care."
Jonathan waved back, then casually put his hands in his pockets and left the Mitchell mansion alone.
Alex couldn't get into the Mitchell mansion. He came in hopeful but left disappointed.
But knowing Katherine was okay, he felt relieved.
As for Katherine's final decision, that was still up in the air.
Upstairs, in Laura's room.
Katherine was in the bathroom, washing up, while Teresa looked around.
Katherine came out in her pajamas, ready for bed.
Seeing Teresa still there, she raised an eyebrow and asked, "Aren't you going home?"
Teresa didn't respond; instead, she asked, "Katherine, why are you staying here? This room looks like a kid's room. Why are you sleeping here?"
Katherine didn't want to explain. The fewer people knew about her connection to the Mitchell family, the better.
She got into bed. "Alright, nothing more to see here. Go downstairs and have Frank take you home."
Teresa pouted, "No, I don't want to leave. It's almost morning anyway. I'll stay with you until then and take a cab home."
Anthony had just been upset because of Frank, and she wasn't ready to deal with him again.
If she went downstairs now, Frank wouldn't let her leave alone, so it was better to stay put.
She'd sneak out in the morning when Frank was gone.
"By the way, Katherine, I dug up some dirt on Sophia. Wanna hear it?" Teresa said, giving Katherine a playful look.
Katherine was half-leaning against the headboard, scrolling through her phone. She paused and looked at Teresa. "Spill it."
Teresa leaned on the bed, propping her chin with her hands. "Katherine, you know how Alex kept his distance from Scarlett, who he thought saved his life, but sometimes he was kinda close with Sophia. Know why?"
Katherine frowned, feeling a bit annoyed.
Alex did keep more distance from Scarlett than Sophia.
He had to tolerate Scarlett because of threats.
But with Sophia, it seemed more like he was just clueless, with no clear boundaries.
Why? Because they were legally married.
Thinking about it, Katherine felt frustrated and didn't want to deal with Alex anymore. So annoying.
Seeing Katherine's mood drop, Teresa quickly added, "Katherine, don't get the wrong idea. Let me explain. When Alex first met Sophia, he thought she was a boy and treated her like a good buddy for a long time. So now, he sometimes still sees her as a guy. That's why he doesn't react to her closeness."
Katherine frowned. What was this?
Even if Teresa wanted to defend Alex, she didn't need to make up such a story, right?
Sophia had a sexy figure. How could she be mistaken for a boy?
"Katherine, don't doubt me. Look, these are Sophia's old photos." To prove her point, Teresa quickly pulled out her phone and showed a few photos to Katherine.
Katherine looked at the photos with disbelief, but was shocked by what she saw.
In the photos, Sophia had a buzz cut, wore men's T-shirts and shorts, and had a sun-kissed complexion. She was without makeup, quite slender at the time, and probably not fully developed, with a flat chest, indeed looking like a boy.
"When Alex met her, she looked like this, even playing basketball with the boys on the men's team," Teresa said with a disdainful pout. "I always wondered how someone like Alex could be friends with a girl. After investigating, I found out it was because he initially saw her as a brother."
Katherine snapped out of it and said, "And then? Treating her like a brother makes it okay to get married?"
Teresa widened her eyes seriously and said, "I also looked into this and need to explain it on Alex's behalf. Katherine, here's the thing. Alex initially asked Sophia to help deal with Jackie so Jackie could focus on her surgery. But on the engagement day, Sophia's flight was delayed due to weather, and then he met you."She continued, "Strictly speaking, Alex didn't deceive you; he just temporarily withheld the truth, fearing you'd leave him if you found out and got angry. Alex really cares about your feelings. He wanted to tell you the truth after divorcing Sophia."
