Chapter 403 Alice Teaches Sunny How to Fight for the Inheritance
Sunny was fuming but couldn't come up with a comeback.
Katherine sat down where Sunny was doing his homework and casually flipped through his workbook. "Sunny, you haven't even finished your homework, and you're asking someone else to do it for you. Got time to meddle in other people's business?"
Feeling nervous and ashamed, Sunny snapped, "Put it down! Don't touch my homework! Mind your own business!"
Katherine set the workbook down and tapped the table lightly. "I'm not meddling. As an outsider, I have no right to interfere."
Sunny sneered. "Glad you know that!"
Katherine stayed calm. "But I can tell Bernard what I saw and let him handle it."
Sunny panicked. "You wouldn't dare!"
Katherine smirked, "Afraid I'll tell Bernard you had someone else do your homework?"
Sunny glared. "No kidding! You're just stating the obvious!"
Katherine's smile faded, and she knocked on the table. "Erase it and redo it!"
Sunny retorted, "I don't need you to tell me what to do! You don't keep your word, so why should I listen to you?"
Without a word, Katherine took out her phone, ready to make a call.
Seeing this, Sunny's face changed, and he hurried to stop her. "What are you doing? Stop!"
Katherine hid the phone behind her back. "Are you going to erase and redo it or not?"
Sunny feared Bernard the most. No matter how defiant he was, he had to give in. "I'll do it! I'll do it myself, okay? Put the phone away, and don't call Bernard!"
Katherine raised an eyebrow, seeing him finally comply, and put the phone away.
She never intended to call Bernard. She was just scaring the kid!
She didn't want to deal with Bernard herself, so why would she call him?
The main goal was to get Sunny to focus on his homework and stop bothering her about Scarlett's matters!
Sunny, full of resentment, sat down and erased the problems Furry had helped him with, then reluctantly started redoing them.
Katherine stood by, watching him write, and shook her head. "I can't believe Sunny, with yourthick eyebrows and clear eyes,writes like a chicken scratching!"
Sunny flushed with embarrassment. "Katherine! Don't go too far! Who asked you to watch me do my homework? Go away!"
Katherine didn't budge. Instead, she took a pen and circled a key point on the problem Sunny was working on. "How should you solve this? Look at the question! Remember the formula I taught you before? Apply it yourself!"
With her reminder, Sunny recalled the formula Katherine had taught him, which perfectly fit this problem.
Suddenly enlightened, Sunny knew how to solve it but still muttered, "Hmph, who needs your help!"
Katherine didn't mind his attitude. She put down the pen and said, "I gotta go to the toilet. If you haven't got the right answer when I come out, don't blame me for laughing at you!"
Katherine bypassed Sunny and went to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
Sunny snorted at her back and then focused on the problem, using the formula he remembered.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Sunny, who hadn't finished his homework, felt a chill, thinking Bernard had come to check on him!
"Sunny, are you there?"
Hearing his mom's voice, Sunny sighed in relief.
"Mom, come in! I'm doing my homework!"
Mrs. Alice Mitchell opened the door and walked in. "Sunny, why haven't you finished your homework yet?"
Sunny scratched his head. "Bernard gave me some tough stuff today, so I'm working slowly."
Alice sighed and walked up to him. "Sunny, you really need to study hard. If you don't get into college this year, how can I face your grandparents?"
Sunny frowned. "What does my getting into college have to do with you facing them?"
Alice looked frustrated. "Of course, it matters! The family could have pulled some strings to get you into a good college, but Bernard wouldn't allow it. He said the Mitchell family doesn't tolerate slackers or shortcuts.. You have to get in on your own. If you don't make it this year, it will prove that my son isn't as smart as your dad's ex-wife's son!"
Sunny felt annoyed. "Mom, but that's the truth! If you want me to compete with Bernard in ability and intelligence, I can't match him!"
Alice, exasperated, said, "SoI want you to work hard! I've endured so much in the Mitchell family over the years. If it weren't for Scarlett protecting me, no one would respect me! Sunny, I'm counting on you to inherit the family business and make me proud!"
Sunny, uninterested, said, "Mom, I've told you before, don't count on me to inherit the family business. That's not where my interests lie! And I don't want to compete with Bernard for the inheritance! Even if I inherit it, I won't manage it as well as Bernard. I'd rather do what I want to do!"
Alice criticized, "What do you want to do? Besides playing video games all day, what else can you do? Sunny, can you stop worrying me? If you don't fight for the family business when your dad is gone and I'm old, we'll be kicked out by Bernard!"
"Mom, Bernard wouldn't do that. He's not that kind of person! If Bernard were wary of me, why would he put so much effort into teaching me and have such high expectations for my grades?"
Alice frowned deeply. "Speaking of that, I find it suspicious! Bernard has been teaching you for so many years. Why haven't your grades improved at all? I think he's deliberately not teaching you well! If he taught you properly, would you still be unable to get into an ordinary college after all these years?"
Sunny, helpless and ashamed, said, "Mom, it's really my fault, not Bernard's! Just consider me naturally dumb!"
Alice, frustrated with her son's lack of ambition, said, "Sunny, you're being foolish! Bernard isn't even your real brother. How much can he really care for you? You need to understand that only Scarlett and I are your closest family. We're the ones who will truly look out for you and not harm you! So you have to listen to Scarlett and me!"
