Chapter 700 My Taste Needs No Explanation
Sunny's fists were clenched tight, he was fuming!
Frank gave him a pat on the shoulder, guided him to the other end of the booth, and handed him a bottle of water. "Chill out, man. If you go over there and make a scene, Ambrosia's just gonna think you're being childish. Piss her off and she might just ignore you, and that's not gonna help."
Sunny knew Frank had a point, but he was so worked up he could barely stand it!
Frank kept trying to calm him down. "Trust me, maybe later you can swoop in and play the hero. Impress her, you know?"
Played the hero? Sunny wasn't exactly sure what Frank was getting at, but he figured he'd wait and see. He took the water, unscrewed the cap, and chugged half of it, trying to cool his temper, but his eyes stayed glued to Ambrosia.
The guy next to Ambrosia, Nolan, was in a slick suit that screamed maturity and class. He wasn't drop-dead gorgeous, but his confident vibe and sharp outfit made him pretty appealing to the ladies.
"Ambrosia, it's been ages since we last saw each other. You've really changed," Nolan said, swirling his wine glass, his eyes full of admiration.
Ambrosia gave a slight smile. "Oh? How so?"
Nolan looked her up and down. "Well, you're more charming, more mature, but also harder to read."
Ambrosia adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses out of habit. "You've changed too. You're more mature and stable, and you've picked up some romance along the way!"
Thinking back, Nolan's smile turned a bit sad. "I was young and dumb back then, and I didn't have the money. I wasn't a great boyfriend, and I'm sorry for that."
Ambrosia raised an eyebrow, her cool eyes showing no sadness, just a hint of mockery. "No need to apologize. Even if we could do it all over again, you'd still make the same choices. We've been around long enough to know that pretending to regret things doesn't make you deep or moving."
Nolan looked embarrassed but quickly forced a smile. "Alright, let's not dwell on the past! Ambrosia, I'm still single, and so are you. Maybe we could give it another shot. What do you think?"
Ambrosia replied calmly, "I don't think that's necessary."
Nolan was taken aback by her blunt rejection and felt a bit hurt. "Why not? Ambrosia, I still like you and can't forget you. Why not give me another chance? I promise I'll treat you better than before!"
Ambrosia took a sip of her drink. "I don't like you anymore."
Nolan frowned, stung by her straightforwardness. "Is it because of that young guy?"
Young guy? Ambrosia turned her head in surprise and saw Sunny, her eyes widening in shock.
She had no idea when Sunny had come over, but he was staring right at them.
Nolan's tone turned condescending. "Ambrosia, your taste has really changed. How could you go for such an immature kid?"
Ambrosia's eyes flicked from Sunny back to Nolan, and she gave a cool smile. "My taste is none of your business, and I don't owe you any explanations. Just know that with my current taste, men like you don't interest me anymore."
Nolan's face darkened. Having reached his current position, it had been a long time since any woman had dared to speak to him like that; he was quite unaccustomed to it.
But Ambrosia was now the president of the Crescent Group, someone he couldn't afford to piss off.
Nolan grabbed the wine bottle on the table, poured half a glass for Ambrosia, and filled his own. "Ambrosia, I was just joking. Are you really mad? It's my bad! Here's to you. Even if you don't want to agree now, I'll keep trying to show you I'm serious!"
He downed his glass in one gulp and looked at Ambrosia with a smirk. "Come on, Ambrosia, just take a sip."
The place was too noisy for Ambrosia to catch all of Nolan's words, but since he had poured the wine, she felt she should at least take a sip out of courtesy.
But as she lifted the glass, her wrist was grabbed by Sunny! "Don't drink it!"
Ambrosia was shocked at first, then looked up at Sunny's stern face and said, annoyed, "Let go."
Sunny frowned, trying to keep his voice gentle, "Ambrosia, don't drink it. You should go home and rest! You have to get up early for work tomorrow!"
Ambrosia was unfazed. "Tomorrow's the weekend; I don't need to get up early. Mr. Sunny Mitchell, I still have things to discuss with my friend. You should head home first to avoid Bernard looking for you everywhere."
Sunny took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "You can talk during the day. What serious conversation can you have here? Come on, I'll take you home!"
He tried to pull Ambrosia up from the booth.
He managed to get her up, but he couldn't get her out because someone else was holding her back.
It was Ambrosia's ex-boyfriend Nolan, not letting Sunny take her away. The two men were now in a standoff, with Ambrosia caught in the middle.
Sunny turned around and saw Nolan daring to touch Ambrosia. His long-suppressed anger flared up. "You better let go right now and don't touch my girlfriend!"
Nolan laughed. "Your girlfriend? But Ambrosia didn't tell me you have a boyfriend now!"
Sunny said, "Are you going to let go or not?"
Nolan shot back, "You're the one who should let go!"
Knowing Sunny's temper, Ambrosia calmly said to her ex, "Nolan, let go."
Reluctantly, Nolan listened to Ambrosia and released his grip.
Then, Ambrosia led Sunny out of the booth.
The hallway was much quieter, and Ambrosia, with a stern face, said to Sunny, "You're a student. What are you doing here? Go home immediately; don't make your family worry!"
Sunny frowned stubbornly, his eyes filled with the unease and fear of a puppy sensing it might be abandoned.
