Chapter 589 Where to Sleep?
Bernard snorted, "Man, I should've never let Katherine go with Alex!"
Jonathan gave Bernard's shoulder another pat, "Hey, you can barely get around. Just chill here and wait for news. I'll go find Katherine for you!"
With that, Jonathan turned and took off.
Bernard watched Jonathan's back, his brows knitting together as he sighed, thinking, 'Once I find Katherine, I'm bringing her home. No more suffering with the Melville family!'
Late at night.
The plane touched down.
Alex sped all the way home. As soon as he burst into Melville Manor, he didn't even bother saying hi to Sandra and Jackie. He bolted upstairs to search for clues in the room.
The room still had that shampoo scent Katherine loved, but she was nowhere to be found.
Alex yanked open the wardrobe; all her clothes were still there. She hadn't taken a thing.
'She bailed again? Just like last time, without a word! Why!' Alex thought as he slammed the wardrobe door, the noise waking Fiona, who hadn't been able to sleep.
Fiona walked in and saw Alex looking super upset. She cautiously asked, "Alex, you're back?"
Alex looked up at Fiona and asked, "Did she say anything to you before she vanished this morning?"
Fiona shook her head. "Nope, she seemed totally normal. Sandra and I didn't notice anything weird."
Alex clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. "Who let you take her out?!"
Fiona pouted, "It was Katherine. She said she was bored at home and wanted to go out for a walk, to feed the pigeons at Arborwood Grove. Sandra felt bad for her and agreed."
Alex took a deep breath. "Great, now you've lost her. Happy now?"
Fiona looked innocent.
At that moment, Sophia, who had come back with Alex, walked in and tried to calm him down. "Alex, don't blame Fiona and Sandra. They didn't do it on purpose. The main thing now is to track down Ms. Galatea!"
'Don't I know finding Katherine is the top priority? My guys have been searching all day and found nothing! Where to look!' Alex thought.
Fiona eyed the woman who had appeared out of nowhere, checking out her outfit, which didn't seem to fit local fashion trends. She asked warily, "Alex, who is she?"
Before Alex could say anything, Sophia smiled and walked up to Fiona, introducing herself warmly, "I'm Sophia! Fiona, you might not have seen me before, but I've often heard Alex mention you!"
Fiona frowned. "Are you close with Alex? What are you doing in our house?"
Sophia replied, "Yeah, we're tight. We've known each other for years."
Fiona looked at Sophia with even more suspicion, thinking, 'How come I never knew Alex knew this woman? Could the argument between Alex and Katherine a few nights ago have been because of Sophia?'
Fiona ignored Sophia and looked at Alex, wanting to ask him for details.
But before she could speak, Alex turned and walked out.
"Alex, where you headed this late?" Fiona called out, taking a few steps after him.
No answer from Alex.
Instead, Sophia chimed in, "Isn't it obvious? He's going to look for Ms. Galatea!"
Fiona snapped back to reality and glared at Sophia, frustrated. "What's your deal with Alex? Who said you could butt into our family business?"
Sophia, with her easygoing vibe from living abroad, replied, "Didn't I just say? Alex and I are super close friends!"
Fiona couldn't stand Sophia for some reason. "Even if you're tight, you can't just waltz into Alex's bedroom! Get out now!"
Sophia shrugged and spread her hands. "So, where am I supposed to crash tonight?"
Fiona frowned, clearly annoyed. "Not my problem! You think you can stay in my house?"
Sophia sighed, "I don't have a place here, and I didn't book a hotel in advance."
Fiona's frown deepened as she thought, 'No wonder Sophia's dressed so provocatively; she's been living abroad! What's Alex thinking, bringing her here? Isn't he worried about pissing off Katherine? Oh wait, Katherine's already pissed. She probably bailed this morning because of Sophia!'
But since Sophia was Alex's guest, Fiona couldn't just kick her out. After a moment, she said irritably, "Fine, I'll find you a guest room!"
Sophia shook her head. "I don't want to sleep in some dusty guest room. Since Ms. Galatea isn't home, I'll crash here tonight!"
Fiona was livid. "Sophia, are you serious? This is Alex and Katherine's bedroom. You think it's cool to sleep here?"
Sophia nodded, "Yeah, it's cool! What's the big deal? They're not home, and I'm not sleeping with them, just in their bed!"
Fiona stood firm, "No way! You might not care about this stuff living abroad, but in our house, it's a big no-no! If you don't want the guest room, then get out! You can't sleep this room!"
Sophia insisted, "Nope, not sleeping in the guest room! The astrologer said it would bring me bad luck this year!"
Fiona rolled her eyes. "What kind of astrologer are you listening to? Sounds like a scam! We don't believe in that here!"
Sophia shook her head. "It's legit! That astrologer is famous where I'm from! Fiona, if you won't let me sleep here, then let me crash in your room! I can't sleep in the guest room!"
"No way! I don't like people in my room!" Fiona shot back.
Sophia casually took off her coat. "Then I guess I'll have to sleep in Alex's room for the night!"
Fiona was fuming. "Get out of this room."
Sophia shrugged. "I said I could sleep in your room, but you didn't agree!"
"Why should I agree? This isn't your house," Fiona snapped.
